Top programs are bringing in 25+ players a year, and so are even mediocre programs, who don't get 4 stars. You have to have bodies to run a real practice.

Riley should have known better going into this job after his failings at oklahoma. The fact that he still hadn't figured these things out leads me to believe that he never will. He's good at throwing out Heltonisms tho, another bad sign.

He still has plenty of time, but also UGA's offense was never as atrocious as the defense USC has fielded the past 2 seasons. Those teams still had elite running games anchored by Chubb, Swift and Michel.

How does anyone compare these two, one was overrated at their first school and the other won two natty.

I’m not a Lincoln apologist but he’s only had 2 DCs, one of which was the brother of the previous head coach. So Lynn is only the second DC that Lincoln has chosen. And Grinch did improve a BAD OU defense. You may be correct but Lincoln Riley’s only mistake so far has been his unwillingness to move on from Grinch, which he’s since corrected.

Exactly. LRiley doesn't even Recruit Southern California. He has ONE (1) commitment from Mater Dei and SJ Bosco combined. These are the 2 BEST High School programs in the Nation down the road from USC and LRiley would rather fly to Kentucky and Maryland to recruit. 🙄

The Big 12 has had some top defenses over the years. Mike Leach coached in both the PAC and the SEC. The issue is line play. You know what school has more top OL in the NFL than just about any school? OU.

Pay no attention to the OU bitches. LR's departure was strictly financial. Tradition and rivalries mean less to him than the cash. And who can blame him? I don't. Sneaking away after losing to OSU did leave a bitter taste, though.

At a certain point a conversation has to be had about these high octane no huddle hurry up spread offensive coaches and managing a whole football team. They consistently forget that managing a whole football team is not putting your defense in bad situations. Time of possession and number of snaps your defense plays matters to performance. It takes more energy to play defensive line. That’s why the cliche about an offensive line wearing them out exists. In the history of this game looking at a box score three stats tell the tale of winning and losing the most. In order turnovers is number one. Number two isn’t total yards or yards given up. It’s time of possession. And number three still ahead of yards is third down conversion percentage on both sides of the ball. Can you extend drives ad hold onto the ball and can you kill drives and get the ball back. You’re not going to win a title having your defense play 100 snaps a game. You can win games but you won’t win 14 in a row. At a certain point the snowball runs downhill with injuries and attrition. It’s the elephant in the room for guys like Riley and Kelly before him. One way to look at it is this ultimately to catch Babe Ruth the minimum thing you need is at bats. These offenses unnecessarily give their opponents more possessions, more chances with the football. It’s a problem no one mentions.

I don't know if they will or not replaced any other coach. But they still have a bowl game. Who would coach the defense if they fire all the current defensive coaches? New coaches don't usually start coaching until it's all over.

It's funny when people make these arbitrary statements but forget facts, and the fact is USC still has a bowl game remaining to play. So I would love for you to tell me who would coach the defense in that game if Riley had just fired everybody on that staff right now. Lynn ain't coaching the bowl game.

Washington isn't a school that reloads like Ohio State or a USC when they are rolling. Washington will be down next year and then some because of who they are losing. You guys play defense because the majority of your conference doesn't play any fucking offense so it's easy to say you play defense when the opponents you play can only score about 18 points a game or so. Your team can't beat Ohio State or Michigan so don't make it sound as if you guys have just been as dominant as those 2 schools lol.

@daltonmann4916 nah. He went 7-5. That's a movie you guys never saw under him. He said that Wiley was instructed to have defensive lineman drop weight because of Alex Grinchs scheme. Well, now that that clown is gone, Riley and Lynn are telling Wiley to get them as big as they can for the B1G. I've seen other great coaches be stubborn, and until they finally adapted and realized and started winning at the highest level.

Colorado wasn't bad, they were horrible. I wouldn't be putting their team into comparison with Texas or Alabama anytime in the foreseeable future,lol. Caleb will not be a repeat Heisman winner because he was outplayed by otherqb’s. Alabama will win it all.
