I’ve been an Auburn fan my whole life at almost 50 years. Auburn has the most difficult situation in all of college football. You are the non-state school/ little brother in a state with the most successful school of all time. Your next biggest rivals are UGA who is the state school in arguably the most talent rich state, and the next biggest rival is LSU who has the same advantage in their state. Who else has to overcome a built in disadvantage like that?…it’s tough sledding. Plus the media in your own state is overwhelming negative to you even when you are good because they prefer Bama. Bama, UGA and LSU have built in media propaganda machines in their states whos #1 job is to help their school anyway possible.

not disagreeing with a lot of what you said, but historically atlanta is not a UGA town media wise. many years of negativity towards uga from ATL (some justified but a lot isn’t).

As a Georgia fan/alum the UGA vs. Auburn games were always the most fun to go to. There’s something special about the deep south’s oldest rivalry. Auburn has hit a slump right now in terms of getting the necessary recruiting to compete with Bama and Georgia so we’ll have to see what they do to change the dynamic of recruiting

As someone that lives in Athens and understands the hatred of the Deep South’s oldest rivalry, this was the best possible thing for Georgia and worst for Auburn. Georgia has dominated Auburn head to head as of late (14-5 in my lifetime). Georgia has finished in the top 10 10 times in my lifetime, compared to Auburn’s 5. Georgia has won the SEC more recently, beating Auburn head to head to do it. Georgia has outrecruited Auburn for 8 consecutive years. The only thing Auburn had over Georgia was the 2010 national championship. Now, Georgia has won a more recent national championship. Alabama being dominant hurt Auburn, but Georgia also being dominant makes it very difficult for the program to succeed at the very top level nationally, and as a Georgia fan, I absolutely love it.

As an FSU fan, I like both of these teams, so I come from this place with a love for both. I cannot imagine the difficulty dealing with Nick Saban alone every single year, and I also recognize that Georgia can be a really tough team as well. The only thing that can take the pressure off Auburn right now is if Saban retires in the next five. That isn't going to happen. Auburn needs to realize that their base-level infrastructure is woefully incapable of competing against all this. Just wait it out and hope Saban doesn't do too much damage at this point.

@@shanekeenaNYC I don't think you understand the Alabama/Auburn dynamic. Auburn won 6 straight prior to Saban and the state of Alabama was still Crimson. Alabama still took the best players in the state during that time (not as many as now, obviously.) It's like the Lakers and Clippers, Lakers will always run LA, no matter how bad the Lakers are.

What's scary is UGA could've arguably been 16-1 in the last 17 games. If not for a Cam Newton led comeback in 2010 and the miracle in 2013.

As a Georgia fan growing up in Alabama.. my all-time favorite rivalry in sports will be AU-UGA. Ive been lucky enough to go to three games between them (2 in Auburn, 1 in Georgia) and each time I went the intensity and energy in the stadiums were unlike any Ive witnessed 💯 I know the Iron Bowl is massive but this rivalry is very underrated.

I think it’s too early to judge Harsin in year 1. But yeah, that UGA vs. AU game used to be one of my favorites because of the unpredictability factor. A lot of iconic moments for both teams have occurred in this game. Not so much anymore. Now UGA just expects to beat them like they would a Kentucky or Mizzou.

2002 David Greene to Michael Johnson.was one of the best games in history. The fact that it was a Georgia-Auburn game, and the SEC crown was in the offing, made it that much more important and influential.

What I always told Gators, Vols or Auburn fans prior to Indy and they bring up 1980...”where is your trip the Playoff?” Since that Rose Bowl win in the Playoff In 2018 those programs had nothing on us. I remember when the rivalry between AU and UGA was tied in W/L record in the mid 2000s. I think it was within single digit points throughout 100+ years. Make no mistake, AU and the SEC have been fighting a losing battle since 2007 when Tuscaloosa got a competent coach with direct ties to the NCAA president. And it has led to the end of college football as we knew it

With Mason leaving, I see Harsin looking to his past to try to salvage something. He is getting people who know how to run his system which had some success at Boise, but at the same time college athletics has changed. NIL and social media are very important, and he is failing to embrace it. I have yet to see or hear Harsin say anything that shows he has a plan on how to adapt to the bigger stage and the changing landscape that is college football. He seems to be burrowing into his comfort removing dissent and diversity from his staff.

25 year old Auburn fan here. We’re gonna be fine. He’s right, there’s a lot of unknowns. But have faith. I love that he’s bringing Auburn Men into the coaching staff. Retaining Cadillac for RB’s was a great move, hiring Jimmy Brumbaugh at D-Line, and making Zac Ethridge DB’s coach as well as recruiting coordinator is gonna pay heavy dividends. These guys know what it is to be an Auburn Man.

I mean, Josh really hit the nail on the head for me when talking about how Harsin is “jelling” at Auburn. Say what you will about Malzahn, but he fit the culture. Tuberville built an amazing emphatic culture back in the 00’s. Then a few years ago, Auburn basketball gets some convict named Bruce Pearl who embraces the University and fosters a truly unique environment around the program. Harsin comes in and, I don’t know. He just seems kind of lifeless. He could be an amazing coach, but he’s acting like Auburn has been a lost cause in the dumps for the last decade when that’s just not really correct. It’s like he is trying to make a square peg fit in a round hole. I hope it works, but after last season, and the current situation a stone’s throw away in Auburn arena, students especially are going into games with the express intent of complaining about the shitty football team.

UGA doesn't make them nearly as frustrated as Bama winning it. The problem is BOTH Bama and now UGA, are elite programs. Auburn sits right in the middle of both. Ironically Auburn and Bama hardly ever recruit the same kids. I dont think Bama even looked at Bo Nix.

Auburn is a blue blood. Georgia is not. Georgia has had 1 perfect season in the last 77 years. Auburn has had 3 in the last 28 years. Auburn could claim 13 national championships. Georgia doesn't even have 13 1 loss seasons this past season included.

Josh, you know Auburn and you understand this rivalry so perfectly. My husband and I are Auburn alumni and root against Georgia more than Alabama because we live in Georgia and Saban is Saban. Look man just because you have the literal worst program in the SEC right now with a 6-14 record doesn’t make us dead inside 😂 we’ll get football back eventually but we’re loving life here in Pearlville.

@@IamAudiophile four starters on our o-line are back, and the fifth played half the season last year filling in for an injured starter. We’ve got arguably the most experienced line in the SEC this year. Both our starting tailbacks are still here in Tank and Hunter. Defense got pretty heavily stacked up in recruiting. We aren’t quite on your level yet, I’ll be the first to say it. But if we get some qb development and some receivers on campus, I like our chances. Rome wasn’t built in a day. Hell it took Kirby 6 years to get over the hump. I have plenty of faith in Harsin. Congrats on a helluva year, I’m already missing the 1980 jokes. War Eagle!

As an auburn fan yeah we just had an awful season but could’ve won most of the games we lost by 2 big plays but we’ll get back on track sometimes a head coaches 1st year doesn’t go that well I’d rather start here and go up rather than go straight to a natty and lose like we did with Gus 1st year and we never did anything good after that

Kirby lost to vandy for homecoming, had multiple questionable calls and won close games all from being conservative his first year during a great recruiting run at GA. To me every coach should have atleast until the players they recruit are on campus. Then they should be judged. Go dawgs!
