my biggest elk with a bow ever! BOW HUNTING ELK has its challenges, but going aftert an old mature bull is a whole other level of difficulty. I've been after a huge bull with my bow for 4 years and over 380 miles later i finally was able to punch my tag on the biggest bull ive ever seen.

this is so cool. i am 12 years old and a aspiring hunter. right now i am just whitetail deer hunting in Missouri where i live and squirrel hunting in the woods behind my house. my biggest buck ever was a 189 inch buck i got in November. the reason i am telling you this is because you have been such a inspiration for me, every time i felt like quitting i thought of one of your videos and now im going on a elk hunt for my 13th birthday because as soon as i saw this video, i looked at my dad and said i wanted to go on elk hunt for my 13th! he agreed and we are going next year in Colorado! Just being out is worth it I hunt oregon and hunt alone and the screaming of elk keeps me up and motivated all year round.picking your chance to shoot is life changing and my life changed in 2014 with a elk of a lifetime,I know,nothing can ever change your first elk and knowing I did it all on my own and just knowing what a human can set there mind too is way beyond. I know the feeling of the first bull. Took me 5 years with my bow hunting BC. not as big as your bull. Mine was a 5x4. That rush, that drive, that bust your ass every day all day to drop your dream animal is what thats all about. Amazing hunt. Well done out there beautiful country.

Can I just say, I have been following you all for a long time and one thing I really appreciate about josh is that he is just as excited about killing mature animals as he was 5 years ago. You see a lot of guys that start out that way and years later it doesn’t even seem like they care when taking what for most people would be a once in a lifetime animal. Great job! Archery elk hunting in the rut was my fave till an accident tore both rotator cuffs and jacked up some discs in my neck. Had to go to a gun, which although is still hunting just not as challenging. Just went 4/4 on an elk depredation hunt in AZ that is only a 1% success ratio, including 2 grandkids and a friends first elk ever, a 320 bull. It was a blast!

@@BowmarBowhunting cant say that i blame you. I know you prefer a sight on a dovetail that you can get the sight housing away from the riser, id check out Blackgolds pro series sight. Similar to the axcel in many ways but blackgold have a lifetime warranty and are known for being built like a brick shit house. That or one of the Option archery sights. The option is pretty slick but pricey, some pretty cool engineering on those. Congratulations on the season

At 23:32 you can see the nock sticking out of the ham directly above the rear stab.

totally unethical bow shot. He shot at that distance while quartering away that hard... dont do what he did, not a good example. If you put your resolution to 1080, when he is grabbing the antlers you can see the green nock in the back of the left hind leg..

Yeah, that is what I concluded as well. However, he mentioned the bull was 1/4'ing away hard, so he held tight to the inside hip (this was wise or perhaps lucky) but nonetheless, the bull moved more to the right as it heard the arrow or bow string and naturally the arrow must have been a Texas Heart Shot. (Straight up the rear) This worked out obviously. The bull did not travel far and was clearly freshly dead when he grabbed it's antlers fkr the first time. His hind quarter shot proved efficient and lethal. Can't complain about that.

Congratulations! One day I hope to hunt an Elk but I gotta take my baby steps first. Still trying to get my first deer (I just started hunting this year) but a lot of the inspiration to go hunt has come from the videos you and Sarah do. I have never heard an elk before I got into archery and specifically watched the man, the myth, the legend, John Dudley. I looked it up and many people who hear them compare it to something coming from Ringwraith coming from The Lord of the Rings Trilogy....scary man.

I’ve never been elk hunting. But I’ve always wondered how they get all that meat out after killing a big elk so far back in the sticks. There’s no way two men can carry that much meat out by themselves. Great bull! One of the biggest bulls I’ve ever seen.

For the majority of us bowhunters, i could call it "for the love of labor" regarding packing out meat after the kill. However, bowhunters like this guy and the few in our modern day, pushing the limit by taking long shots over 50yrds is not ideal! Its just luck! Its a big space of vitals on an elk but many factors apply that could go wrong (wind, rain, debris, shooting inexperience, equipment, anxiety, etc.). Most bowhunters risk wounding an animal in these cases. On the other hand, its a very exciting experience to learn and to work your way to a closer and sure shot. It is a much more rewarding experience, garranteed!
