My time at Mauna Kea has inspired me in such a powerful way that, for me, I was able to express through my music. Kumu Hinaleimoana joined me on this journey. She listened to my melody and wrote my mana’o that helped me to express what I truly feel inside. Everything here was captured by my truly talented friend, Antonio while on this quest. I am so grateful for the opportunity I had to visit Mauna Kea and owe it to another dear friend, Kumu Nāpua, for urging me to follow my na’au and GO TO THE MAUNA! I hope this mele uplifts the hearts of my ‘Ohana, Lāhui, and warriors fighting every single day throughout our entire pae ‘āina. Continue the fight in love! Eō!

I will be honest here, I’m from the mainland, and I do not understand the language. When I tell you this songs melody moved me to tears, it’s 100% true. I am not aware of what struggles your people are facing, but I hope everyone stays strong and keeps on fighting. ✌🏻❤️

The ending of the song last Line means “the light of the land is perpetuated through righteousness” and the title for the lāhui means “for the people” because the protesters of Mauna a waKea are fighting to keep our sacred realm of the gods from being desecrated by the tmt

08.22.2019- I am a student in 7th grade that goes to Kamehameha Schools Hawaiʻi Campus, and today we sang this mele, and i felt so uplifted and i felt like i was AT da mauna when i was actually in schools. While hearing myself and my classmates sing this, my heart was warmed by the feeling of OUR lāhui and i felt liek weʻre able to conquer anything in this world, as long as we stand for it, and we stand together. Mahalo nui loa braddah for writing this beautiful mele for everyone and the kiaʻi.

From the first time I saw a mainland group from California dance to this song, I fell in love with it. Very few songs grab at my heart like this song does. It makes me sad, it makes me proud to be Kanaka Maoli, it makes me want for independence, there are so many different feelings that go through me when I hear this mele. Mahalo Piha to Josh Tatofi.

When they arrested the kupuna that seriously killed me 😢 That day will forever be memorable and all of this seems very familiar to the issues that happened in the south back in the day. We’re being hated on constantly in our own home! We can’t even be Hawaiian in Hawaii without people judging us! No aloha aina from the state, C&C, DHHL, etc. The Mauna, Sherwood’s, Pohakuloa, the list goes on... how much more can they destroy and take all in the sake of greed?!

1:43 you can feel the pain. I am so disappointed to be from this country. I have always felt from any interaction I had with Polynesian people on my motorcoach that Hawaii was where I was supposed to be because they feel like home. I don’t fully understand the culture but I try and I want to know more. Bruddah iz has always been one of my heroes in life kaleohano along with hawai’i 78 moved me so much. I grew up in a small town in West Virginia that operated very similarly but in a few different ways but has since gone to crap because of a lack of education and not learning from history. I long for a place that matches how it used to be and Hawaii feels like it.

Truly beautiful and chicken skin. You feel so many emotions watching this...aloha, mana, chicken skin, pride, but most of all heartbreak. For people watching this who may not understand why this movement is so critical and who may think this is only about a telescope...the guy wearing the baseball hat that says "BROKEN TRU$T" at 0:23 explains it all. If anyone doesn't know the real truth behind what that actually means, I urge you to research Hawai'i's political history and see for yourself how Hawaiian lands were sold off piece by piece to the highest bidder going back hundreds of years and is STILL happening today. This is the tipping point of GENERATIONAL HURT and GENERATIONAL CORRUPTION done to our people for so long, all in the name of money and greed. Everything and everyone has a "breaking point", and for us as Hawaiians THIS IS IT..this is what a breaking point looks like.

This song, Ku ha'aheo, Ka na'i aupuni, Kaulana na pua, Hawaii aloha and Hawaii 78 is my morning protocol every morning. I wake up and cry for my kupuna. Its so sad that we are peaceful like MLK and our beloved queen told us to be. But instead, we get trampled on and bullied in our own home. It truly breaks my heart daily. Especially when they thought it was a good idea to cut our Hae Hawaii. That week was horrible for me. I was so pissed off all week. Cops or not, I like bang. I was a Marine back in the day, imagine how they would feel if a prior Marine went out to the state capital and cut the ameriKKKan flag in half? There would be riots in the streets. So double standard. Anyway on Saturday, Oct 5th get marches. Everyone who supports the kia'i should come out. Speak your peace, its your right ("afforded" by the ameriKKKans) and your kuleana (stated by our Queen). E ola mau kakou. E lanakila 'ana kakou ma luna o ka po'e haole.
