Joshua could’ve easily released this when Olivia released Driver’s License in order to gain some success from Olivia blowing up but he waited and allowed her to have her moment just goes to show that Joshua is an amazing person
I think it would’ve just been brushed under the rug due to most viewers already having a clear “side” or bias. Him waiting gave him the chance to actually be heard.
And people still have the audacity to hate and send him death threats. This man was hospitalized because how bad the hate got and actually almost died. He and Olivia deserve love, no hate.
So he was in the hospital in January for septic shock and heart failure but today he also revealed he was SA as a child and as a teenager. Please go read his new GQ interview. It really gives the songs a different meaning. Set me free references a lot of things but the SA was one of them. I see somebody he mentioned how he’s donating the earning for crisis but he’s also donating a dollar out of his own pocket for every pre save the ep gets and they raised 22k with the presaves. Also 100% of the proceeds of his merch go to charities if ur choice. He’s such a sweet and talented human being. Deserves better.
Loved the reaction. I wish more people would listen to his music too, he's so talented and deserves to be known for his art, not just some teen gossip.
This is one of the best songs I have heard in a while. People who aren’t really into music don’t understand how crazy good this songwriting is. And it’s sad. Hope it does blow up eventually and people see how incredible this song actually is
The fact that crisis and the other two music videos were shot in one take makes them more magical ✨ Joshua also said that he didn't have enough budget that's why three of the videos were shot in one take.🥺
I really respect Joshua for doing this. For using the profit from this for a good cause, for waiting so long to release these songs because he wasn’t ready, and that meant more to him than getting clout from the drama. I respect that a lot, he could have released these in the best of it all and got a lot of views and money and would have probably been a lot more famous than he is but what was most important to him was to release it when he was ready if he ever was ready, going against what his label want. He let Olivia have her moment to share how she felt and her truth, and now he’s ready to let out his truth and let it go ❤️
Oh man his songwriting here is so heartbreakingly good…the “dont you dare act like i didnt love you” is so simple but it gets me everytime Also the “my momma called cause she heard that I got death threats. Oh what the hell am i supposed to do with that?” Oh myyyyy😭
i really would love for him to get the recognition he deserves , love him sm❣️ and all profits for crisis is going to mental health organisations and all profits of his merchant goes to a charity of ur choosing he's so sweet after everything he went through this year
I love how real he’s being in these songs. He’s an incredible lyricist and I respect him and appreciate him a lot more not only as a musician but also as a person for how real he’s being. My heart honestly hurts for him, when driver’s license was released I heard a lot about all the hate he’s was getting and all the death threats and it was horrible to see them but to hear him say it and talk about it from his own mouth hits so much more. Hope he’s doing okay ❤️ People honestly need to realise there’s always two side of the story and not all the time is there a ‘bad guy’ in a situation sometimes things don’t work out and people don’t fit together. No ones perfect. You can have good intentions and still have flaws and bad traits about you. Just because josh hurt Olivia doesn’t make him a bad person, and Olivia hurting josh doesn’t make her a bad person. They both have their own perspective of their relationship, it doesn’t mean one is wrong and one is right. They could both be right, it’s THEIR truth, so how they felt, not anyone’s else ❤️
i love the way you appreciate his music and his work. he's amazing but unfortunately, is underrated AND overhated asf:( he really deserves so much better. :(
please definitely make a reaction to his other 2 songs he released! I think you would really like secrets because sonically its extremely cool!! and set me free is such a beautiful ballad
This is my favorite reaction so far!!! I love seeing somebody in YT talking about how GOOD the song is without mentioning that old drama. This song is everything and the lyrics is superior.
For - long time I've disliked whining break up songs that took no responsibility for the break up and showed no sympathy for their ex or their own feelings, songs just all about anger and blame. Venting may give some relief but who learns anything from that? Love songs that own their own feeling (Harry Styles Falling, TBSL) and Joshua's Crisis show some growth and insight. Always knew we were only hearing one side of OR's or TS's rants. Wish other partners who have been victims of such rants could tell their side, but doubt any could top these lyrics, so direct and heart felt.
Thank you for reacting to this song and the other 2 he's really talented but unfortunately he doesn't get the recognition he deserves. This song is so good but it certainly made me sad and gives me chills. All of his earnings of this song will go to mental health organizations so please stream!!!!!
Thank you for realising the talent that Joshua always had in him, he deserved more than what he had ever gotten. Wish people could just see it through, not gonna lie i teared up watching this reaction video 🤍🤍
Finally someone with the same reaction as me lol the songwriting was INSANE, every line was perfectly fitted and direct, just a masterpiece. Thank you for appreciating it 🥰
I love when you dive into the lyrics more, ofc you produce so you’re always going to have an ear for the production side of the song and your analysis of the production is always interesting but I definitely love when you listen to the lyrics too because most of the time the lyrics are my favourite part of a song. Especially in this video because Joshua is an amazing lyricist and he doesn’t get enough credits for it! I’m only half way through this video but thanks for talking about the lyrics in crisis ❤️
Going on about lyrics so much made me think of Tim Minchin. For a funny song try prejudice, for a fun wonderful lyric story telling, I recommend Storm. He is a great GOAT in musical comedy! 😁😁😎 (am a new subscriber.) (Also glad to see I am not the only one who comments half way through a video!)
Just so you know, all of the profits made from this song will go to mental health organizations forever. Like he will literally never make a penny of of this. What a man
I'm not Olivia but I''m the one feeling guilty for her. You don't just stay there and remain silent while other people are receiving death threats because of your song.
You can have your opinions on their relationship but neither deserve death threats. Yall are ridiculous. They are both incredibly talented people who went through a rough breakup. unfortunately it happens.
" And, honestly, I didn't wanna write this "- I think its very clear he didn't wanna write this and his label told him not to waste it i still feel he did. "Half the shit you're saying's only half-true" - a bad lyric must i say more. " Was it an act to love me or an act to hate me? " - this is the last line on the bridge. The problem is crisis doesn't stand unless driver's licence exist.
You do know that songwriting is an art, mostly of expression. So he's free to release a song whenever, let alone he released it after all the buzz died down(just goes to show how he didn't want that to define his song or send more hate). That lyrics is actually good, it definitely conveyed what it was trying to say.(repitition and it further reduces down the "shit" he's talking about, it was actually pretty clever) And that's all matters. Ofc, without driver's license this song wouldn't have come out, so wouldn't he had to go through any of that trauma and had the need to express himself like this.
good song, great vocal but i'm conflicted on the lyrics. This song is a direct response to Olivia's songs. and calling Olivia's art a "career move" is like invalidating her art. Because when Olivia first dropped drivers license, she had no intention what so ever to create drama she wrote that for herself to get over the heart break. She didn't even know if DL was gonna be received well or not - definitely not a career move.
@@christopheraquino4728 after one week of DL release, in an interview she addressed it. She said specifically to not get caught up in the drama of the song. she already addressed it but she doesn't name direct names of Josh or Sabrina which is really mature. but apparently it is not enough for Josh and Sabrina fans. then some months later in a Variety interview, Olivia even said along the lines she doesn't stand for trying to pit women against women. point is no matter what Olivia says, it will never be enough for Josh and Sabrina fans. Olivia did the right thing.
@@juliaquiros908 i'll check it out. but still, Olivia's songs was focused on the experience of heart break that people can resonate with. Joshua's songs directly focuses on his "ex's" career and his life. they are songs for drama to resonate with. I wished he was the bigger person and use that songwriting talent to write about the experience that people can relate to and make the drama become small.
This whole story is rather muddled. OK. He got death threats, which is inexcusable, and Olivia was late in commenting on it but we do not know the story behind this. I rather doubt that her team was promoting the hate to boost Spotify streams. Also, I doubt that when she released deja vu, she said, “Take that again, Joshua.” Same thing with good 4 u and then traitor. I suspect that at some point, she simply got into the groove of writing breakup songs in Covid isolation and then put them all together as Sour. They seemed to please a lot of people. She has stated she likes to write this type of song. And as we all know, heartbreak has been a subject staple for the past 90 plus years. Look at Sinatra’s sad song albums on Capitol. This is The Music Business after all. For example, it only made sense that Olivia release that obviously hastily shot traitor video to stay in the public eye - not to profit from a crisis. I understand he has gone through difficult times but I am not completely convinced this was the best move. Had he tackled new subjects, he could have told GQ that he had moved on/risen above the fray and had a sort of last laugh on everyone who had criticized him. The release of this song makes me wince but if it was some sort of therapy, OK. As to the song itself, sorry, but frankly these lyrics are a bit heavy-handed and we are supposed to accept everything as 100% true. The melody is hardly memorable - but to each his/her own. Not sure why, Jacob, but I am somewhat surprised by your immediately enthusiastic response. Also what is this about their shooting High School Musical S2 after the release of Driver’s License? Is that true? THAT would really change things. I have to believe it is not true. Sorry for the lengthy reply. I am just amazed at how he releases this song and so many people buy into it without really knowing the story. But such is Life on the Internet.
I think the whole thing is the fact that she never defended him or Sabrina. The fact that she never denied the rumors or just said "hey guys no hate on anyone" (at least not until she released sour completely haha). Olivia can't be held accountable for all the hatred this people had been through this year. She just wrote songs on her perspective and not all songs are about her life. The problem here is not even trying to speak up. People said his name and Sabrina's publicly in interviews and programs (that one that made fun of Joshua and Sabrina for example) . I mean, if I was on Joshua's shoes I would assume she (or her management) is using the drama on their favor as a "career move". Yes they kinda of profited from a crisis... In one of his lyrics he says that she would never be bold enough to deny the rumors or just publicly talking about the situation, I think that makes a not of sense... Again, Liv is not responsible for the hatred he's been through, she just wrote a song and people started to assume and send hate and all... Well, I do think this lyrics are too harsh, but can you blame someone who's bitter? I also thing a lot of this is to the public in general, not only a response to Olivia. Anyways, there are a lot of layers to this story and to this debate. I don't think Liv is in fault here but the fact is none of them are angels, right?
