I can't speak for him as an individual, but, yes we can have non-JW friends, and respect the constitution of whatever countries we're in. No, we do not bow to any flags. We follow the law and pay our taxes and do our best to be good, honest citizens and respect secular governments. But we do not bow to any secular government and will not dishonor our loyalty to God (such as by being violent) for any secular government.

As a J.W: We have coworkers, friends,and family outside of the congregation. And we don't consider anyone "less" than ourselves. If someone had significantly different views, we might not drop our guard so much... I.e. other people may be more likely to have different values and therefore potentially lead us toward values we might consider unbiblical... But we're specifically expected to be peaceful and respectful and friendly to everyone, even if they were "enemies." See the book of Matthew chapters 5-7.

We believe God is watching and he will take necessary action in due time. we continue to live in peace & following gods law. JWs don't personally choose to shun, even though they say they do.. They shun based on an announcrment made at the kingdom hall that so-and-so "is no longer one of Jehovah's Witnesses". They are not told why. According to the "Organised to Do Jehovah's Will" book the announcement is made to "alert" the congregation to "stop associating" with that person. Chapter 14, paragraph 29. (Book can be found in the library on the jw website. Anyone can read it there.)
