The mark of a great statesman. He knew his life was in danger & he knw quite well from who but not once do you hear him spew hate speeches & propaganda. He is diplomatic about it & in so doing leaves the door open for reform in his enemies. He is using well-thought out response that are designed not to make an already bad situation worse. The interviewer is actually trying to push him into it but he maintains his diplomacy.Him & Mbeki would have made a formidable team. Thanx for posting.
ndiri mushona asi i support nkomo more than mugabe because its not abt language or tribe but being wise and reasonable this guy is better than most from my country.
nkomo was a man of character. i still remember how he had threatened to resign from the gvt after mugabe denied strive masiyiwa the license to operate econet. a national leader indeed
What a true selfless nationalist, a leader, a uniter he was..you can tell by the way he answers the questions that he was indeed a father who wanted to build the country. Unfortunately the devil stood in the way.
A lovely man. He was my host as the Vice President of Zimbabwe when I led an investment mission there. It coincided with the passing of Mugabe’s wife, the First Lady. Joshua accompanied us to Government House to pay our respects and offer our condolences. Rest in Peace Joshua.
Umdala wethu! If we had had such selfless leaders in 1980, Zimbabwe would be somewhere up there! But now “chaora chinhu ichi..!” A very humble and down to earth man!!❤️
im not ndebele but Nkomo was a good leader for the country this ndebele/shona issue dont play role because we are all not of same tribe all we need is good leaders : CHIKANDAMAZEKO
One of the greatest leaders yet. The problem is that Nkomo's style of leadership was not realistic, a minority tribe cannot hope to get the support of a majority tribe it once terrorized, the Ndebele must learn quickly from this man's mistakes before its too late. Love him, but learn. Now the Ndebele are being picked at one-at-a-time with no leader to give then a united voice against what is a blatant tribal marginalization agenda. Yes, the Shona do not hate the Ndebele as a whole; but the Ndebele are being treated as second class citizens in Zimbabwe. In this modern age, no tribe should accept this! Most Shonas hate Ndebele and yet go to South Africa, with a majority Nguni population, ----- pretending to be pan-Africans. Shona are the most tribalist group in Southern Africa, second to the Xhosas, and their attitude is destructive. there is no way Zimbabwe can recover from its current downfall. Haiti has yet to recover form its independence from France because its founding fathers made too many mistakes in the beginning setting it on the wrong path. Mugabe has made too many mistakes, too many enemies, and too many bad decisions for Zimbabwe. Same with Zimbabwe - Shona nationalism is distructive - its key component is that the Shona claim to far much more educated than most Africans. An irony given the state of Zimbabwe!
Nkomo indeed was a true Cadre of Zimbabwe revolutionary leader. He did a lot of work to serve Zimbabweans from oppression. People loved him so much such that Zanu party was jealousy if him.
Father Zimbabwe, Chibwechitedza. Will never forget your teachings to us every time u were in Masvingo. I wish if u had time to have rallies in all corners of the country and preach ur favourite topic of oneness. And it's like yesterday when u shook my hand in First street Harare in 1988. Long live Mqabuko
Some people comments here are outrage,a country must concerned about which tribe rule the country but which qualities a person possess to rule the country. If a ndebele can rule the country well i will vote for him.Ndiri muShona hazvina basa zvekuti munhu anotaura chishona or ndebele.
The present Zimbabwean history books were written to short change this man. The contribution he made towards national liberation were overly understated creating the impression that he was popular among matebeles which is very incorrect....ZAPU was a national party
i wouldnt agree any less. The roles he played in the independence of Zimbabwe and the little told about him in the history books do not tally. I believe history books must be re-written in Zimbabwe. Ndumiso Dabengwa also deserves some credit he did so much for the movement but he is not getting enough appreciation so i feel
As a white Policeman I had Mr Nkomos house in Pelindaba under my Security watch. We were always respectful towards each other and was in fact friends with some of his Family and top men. We witnessed the rage between Zanu and Zapu during the Entumbane time and realised then that had Zipra (Or ZAPU) and Smiths Government joined forces we would have had a different Zimbabwe today. A pity Mr Nkoma chose to support Mugabe as it was only a question if time before old tribal hatreds would emerge and the shona would use their power to take down the Ndebele and any opposition. Mugabes election was won only on a numbers game, thats all, 80% Shona and 20% Ndebele. Doesnt take a genius to have seen that from the begining. A united Government under Nkomo, Muzorewa and Smith would and could have build a Fantastic country for us all. RIP Mr Nkomo, just a pity you couldnt see the Trees for the forest at the time. Zanla forces were absoluitly no match at all against the Rhodesian army (80% Blacks) and the Zipra forces.
He spoke truth to power some sections of people in ZW thought he was crazy, some insulted him. But today they have come to realise what Nkomo meant was true. But it's too late.
These people we call whites l think l have an issue with them if you look the way he's asking you will think he has heart but l feel an element of destruction
this man was a veeeery peaceful man, he considered all the things he said in the name of peace and reconciliation not because he was scared of anything
Eish! He was crying, the Zimbabwean struggle was started long ago. Zanu was tormenting it's citizen as early as in 1985. You can watch Nkomo was crying he had seen people being killed.
Nkomo was definately he lesser of two evils. In 1975 Rhodesian prime minister Ian Smith offered him to take over government in order to prevent Mugabe from gaining power. Understandibly Nkomo refused because he knew that without Mugabe in power the Bush War would probably not come to an end.
This man had all qualities of a wise great leader : he never judged matters through conjectures, beliefs or what was believed to be the sources of trouble or conflict. He prefers to deal on clearly observed issues for the benefit of the entire nation not to favour himself or his ethnic group. Truly Africa had people of its kind;no selfish based talk!!
If ndebele and shona understand this episode as I do right now we would be one Zimbabwe loving each other ndebele or shona I thought nkomo sold us ndebeles but have come to understand the love he had for a United Zimbabwe that's what tongogara died for and all our hiroes nkomo had that in heart understand that ndebele or shona
No wonder why the vice president , J M N Nkomo was called Father Zimbabwe ,Responsible ,all embracing response ,no one who force him to spew hate and venom ,nomatter how much tries
The white guy keeps asking questions around tribes. His mind is 'divide and conquer' and so he keeps entertaining that point. Nkomo being wise, he doesn't want to excite the whites...what a wise leader he was.
Every ndebele i have ever spoken to believes this was a tribal issue. I am from the welsh tribe and we blame the english tribe for loads. 5th brigade was shona fighting in matebeleland. They squashed a rebelion.
A great man who was loved by the nation, this tells you in the formation of the liberation movement all tribes were there like our military army (Currently)to my view he should have been the first President,so as for nation building, democracy,l love his answer that Gugurawundi wasn't a tribal war thus true,no Shona ordinary people attacked the Ndebele, may his soul rest in peace ❤
Less is being said about Zipra forces and the government of the day has destroyed all efforts by the movement. Will they ever be heard as they now fall under Zanupf?
the whole history of Zimbabwe, since majority rule is very ,very sad, the words, power, status, lies, greed and incompetence come to mind, ,which goes to show that human history will always repeat itself over and over again.
That's the most saddening fact, truly. Always the pure and honourable things in this world are doomed to crash and burn. And thus history repeats itself endlessly. Rhodesia is sorely missed.
Oh lord look unto us the children of Africa and be merciful. Spare us the power hungr leaders who have no intention of building our land but are there for self interest. And ambitions
wow, this is soo eery and a tragic irony for zimbabwe. mugabe is using the same strategy to oust morgan that he used on poor josh. We thank God for u Joshua coz now we have learnt through your struggle how the evil mind of bob works and now morgs can learn from it. God bless Zimbabwe!
It is clear from this conrversation that Dr Nkotmo had no extensive knowledge with what was going on on the ground in Matabeleland.1984-85 and 86 were the darkest. It is in these years that fifth brigade had covered almost the entire region having done the unthinkable that could happen to innocent Zimbabweans of Ndebele origin. We however hold no grudges against Nkomo because all that he wanted was a peaceful nation that would develop without wars.He was the most wanted here and thus he had to run away and bring the matter to the world and unfortunately no body cared and we had to find ways on how to survive with luck on our side.A man of peace as he was-he must rest in peace.
After watching this video I realise that ordinary shona people were not part of the genocide it was a political miasma..Do we really hv concrete motive to hate ordinary people who not involved other than the parties involved
Yes we do as they also do and they say nasty things like, Ndebeles are foreigners in Zimbabwe and they must go back to KZN Trust me, these are ordinary shona people saying that, there is also much tribalism happening at the Beitbridge border in Zim, l recently witnessed that
This video reflects the problem that the matabeland people suffered.Nkomo was a good guy and that was the problem .He had this fantacy feeling that the shona could unite with ndebele for one zimbabwe yet mugabe was on a mission to destroy his people. This man was our biggest liability,we needed a fighter not this kind of a coward.
This guy isn't a Marxist like Mugabe, and Mugabe hated him. Nkomo is more free market and moderate in his orientation. If he and Ian Smith could have found a way to share power and keep the Marxists out, that would have been good.
What people dont know is the only person who wanted any ndebele zimbabwean citizens killed was MUGABE he feared the former freedom fighters who sought refuge in matebeleland as they had done during the war who knew him for the murderer he was would overthrow him together with the rise of ZAPU he stood no chance he then decided to target the community that assisted the freedom fighters the Ndebele populace PASI NAMUGABE PAMBERI NEZIMBABWE LONGLIVE JOSHUA NKOMO!!!
Mugabe ruined Zimbabwe in every way. Not only Nkomo any leader would have been better than Mugabe. I was in Zimbabwe before and after the independence.
Onyenzi imagine everything is about power for example the gun is powerful than pen. What kind of nation is that. May God raise leaders who will lead us in truth
