As soon as I saw the profile of him, he's perfect. And again, Bologna under Motta were doing a lot of the same things Ten Hag did in his first season, it's why I'm fingers crossed that we go after Calafiori too, but I think we'll only get 1 player out of them. He's the Weghorst type 9.5 that you can build a frontline around, while also being a better goalscorer than Weghorst. Which really suits the rest of our forwards, who aren't creative players. Bruno, Garnacho and Rashford all ended last season with more goals than assists, and Antony's shots per 90 is double his key passes per 90. They all ended the season with at least 1 more shots per 90 than Hojlund, which continues what we saw the previous season with Martial and Weghorst. I said 12 months ago, if United need a striker, you need someone who fits the team. We wanted Kane who would have been perfect, didn't get Kane so went for a totally different profile of player. 12 months later, Hojlund with coaching is starting to maybe look like an okay fit, but we probably need different wingers to get the best out of him. But Zirkzee is the right fit for the players we have now, and I think he may play more than people think.

This seems like a signing you'd make if you're open to playing 3-5-2. That might not be a bad idea with Højlund sitting on the shoulder, Zirkzee dropping into midfield and maybe laying it off to Bruno. Could potentially play into the strengths of everyone

It's analyse. He hasn't said he's definitely signing. Manchester United can pretty much make 1 signing at this stage. So, who do they sign first? In order to make further signings, they need to sell. The likes of Casemiro, Sancho, Greenwood, Lindelof, and Maguire are still there, and nobody has made an offer for them.

There's an interview where Zirkzee says he'd love to play at the San Siro. I think United need to be forceful in changing his mind and do it quickly, because its a new regime, but its slowly becoming the same old same old. The window has been open now, and some deals have been done already. The longer this and other deals go on, the less likely i feel that they will happen.

Sounds like another CAM. So we are back to 5 CAMs: Bruno, Eriksen, Mount, MacTominay, Zirkzee. But since United players doesn't pass to the striker, maybe it's not a bad idea of having all these CAMs and false 9s who can play instead of a striker.

I'm not even a Martial fan at that and I wanted him to leave the club but there are many factors at play here. And physicality is never one of his traits. He can't handle the physicality in the league. Though, he is sleek with the ball and has that goal sense if given the chance. I'm not a Zirkzee fan as well because I barely watched him. But take it or leave it, we need another forward, we can't rely only on Hojlund and also we don't expect the club to buy the likes of Toney, Watkins etc because of PSR... And there are other positions to fill with money as well. So the people at the top have lots of work to do at that club, because it's crumbling.

How do you know that? Hojlund is great too and they both young and the best thing about this transfer is they're completely different types of strikers. Different games will rely on Zirkzee more, others on Hojlund's ability. Some may need both. A good problem to have as a club.

It's a fckn disgrace that we currently have only one forward, Zirkzee, I haven't seen enough of the lad to give opinion but the one thing we must improve is creating chances, Rasmus was starved of changes last season and he'll score given the chance, need another two strikers possibly Zirkzee and I'd suggest an older professional that won't tolerate these fckn muppets like Rashford, someone who can raise some passion and fighting spirit.... if only we could turn the clock back and get Sparky!!

Reports that I read were that the release clause is active from 1st July UNTIL August not FROM August. Would make more sense, one month window to buy in July, so that Bologna don't lose him too late for them to have time to replace him 😉

Why is everyone raving about this guy? They watch a highlight reel and think hes amazing. He really isnt. His best ever scoring tally is 12 - TWELVE - goals. He doesnt even get many assists. Netherlands prefer to play with no steiker rather than Zirkzee.

@@mm2801 Again.... I did not talk about Hojlund, I didn't say I backed him and I didn't say 10 was more than 12. But I will say, he was 20 years old at Atalanta and was first choice for them. At 20 years old, Zirkzee played 4 games for Parma and didn't score. Hojlund is more developed than Zirkzee but 2 years younger. I do agree with you about the excuses for hojlund though. It wasn't a case that people were refusing to pass to him. He was rarely in a good position to pass to and he doesn't time his runs well. But like I said, he's 21 - you expect that while he's learning.

If one player is playing first team football regularly at the age of 20 in Serie A, and one player makes 4 sub appearances in a whole season at the age of 20 in Serie A, common sense tells you the one that plays regularly is more developed. Why are you so hard for Zirkzee anyway? Why do you want him at United? Oh ok, you're one of these guys that watches a highlight reel and thinks this is how he plays all game, every game. Take a look at his career. He's had one good season in Belgium and one ok season in Serie A. The fact that Netherlands would rather take Weghorst to the Euros says a lot. And before you come back with crap about Hojlund and how many good seasons he's had and where - I didn't say anything about Hojlund in my original comment.

@@mm2801 I'm guessing you're about 12 years old. The best comeback you've got is "you don't watch football"??? I've been watching and playing football my whole life and I'm in my mid-40s. Yes, Zirkzee looks technically competent. But his all round game is not on the level you seem to think it is. I watched a lot of serie A games last season and probably 5-6 bologna games. Zirkzee looked pretty average to me. He drifts in and out of games. Sometimes he doesn't look that interested and sometimes if he gets clattered he disappears altogether. In the premier league, he will get clattered every game. As for what you said about Weghorst, if you think a Burnley reject that failed to score a single league goal in half a season despite playing for a united team that finished in the top 4, is a better player than Zirkzee - then you've argued yourself into a dead end. Yes he works hard, but I prefer my strikers to score. You need ability to be a striker in the premier league. Weghorst did not cause Rashford to score 30 goals and he wasn't chosen over Bruno to play as a 10. He filled in for Bruno when Bruno had to play on the right wing in a couple of games. Don't exaggerate. It's pathetic.

Wtf are you talking about a "narrative" for??? Is that a word you've seen in comment sections and thought it would make you seem intelligent?? My original comment questioned why people are rating Zirkzee so highly as a striker when his best ever goal tally is 12. YOU started arguing about Hojlund only getting 9 once - even though I didn't mention hojlund!!!!! So that's how the conversation developed into talking about stats. Also, I questioned if people were judging him based on highlight reels. How the hell is that me saying I've never watched him play??? I also question why Netherlands took Weghorst instead of Zirkzee if Zirkzee is so good - YOU were the one that attempted to justify that decision by praising a proven failure - NOT ME. Yes, let's just leave this conversation where it is. It's looking like we'll be signing Zirkzee so we'll see how good he is. Personally, I don't think he's that good. He is not a United forward yet. I think he is kinda clunky and slow, has 1-2, plays from deep, so obviously will be bringing the wingers in... I just feel the guy's not United quality. The fact that Wout Weghorst comes on for the Netherlands ahead of zirkzee who hasn't even got his boots dirty at these Euros says everything you need to know, he hasn't even played a minute to my knowledge ,what does this tell you about his ability in a poor Dutch attacking line up. Another over rated player who will do nothing at United like Anthony who cost 80 plus million and looks like a league two player. Hojland is rubbish too, I can't see anything in his game that even offers promise, these two as a partnership will most likely get us 15 Goals between them. 😂 Let's face it we ain't attracting top players anymore sad but true

It is rare for a replacement player to get much game time at a tournament because he has not been part of the core group!He is a future star for the Netherlands but is getting good experience training and getting used to the team. He will only come on if there is an injury or suspension to Weghorst,Depay,Malen or Bergwyn! The 4 players ahead of him have lots more experience at club level or tournaments than Zirkzee! This is not a defining tournament for him and we should not forget Ronaldo did not play a minute at USA '94 when Brazil won the World cup although everyone in Brazil or PSV knew about his talent and potential but he was not starting ahead of Romario and Bebeto!
