Oh, but make no mistake. They're into it. Every eye is glued to her as she struts through that audience. She had them in the palm of her hand. And they gave her a rousing applause
As a performer myself, I've found that some audiences are totally enjoying the performance, but more like they're watching a movie or something. 🤣 Sometimes, they don't want to be the first one to get up and dance, or they consider themselves too "sophisticated", etc. It's frustrating. Joss stone is a BOSS, though!!! I have to sing this song on Saturday, and I don't want to sing it like Dusty (no shade, much respect).❤
This is perfect in every possible aspect. BTW, she was 19 years old while performing this. Let that sink in for a minute. FUCKING 19!! Absolutely unbelievable...
I still can't get over the fact that Amy Winehouse and Adele got a lot more hype than this amazing singer that came on the scene before them. Love me some Joss Stone and this awesome performance.
@@DeanKellyBonsai You are wrong. she has like 5 or 6 records with excelent songs written by her. I suggest you listen to "music", "stuck on you" and "this aint love"😊
@@jonaseduardorocha6118 hardly chart topping hits or floor fillers. I’m sure her fans enjoyed them. Don’t get me me wrong, I think she’s great. But her own stuff isn’t a patch on the iconic tracks Amy Winehouse or Adele wrote. Not even close.
Look up "confident and comfortable' in the dictionary and you will find her face. Barefoot in a short short skirt never missing a beat or a note. Total superpowers.
Seventeen years ago, when I was a little girl, I watched this video and I was amazed by her, by her voice, her style, and her charisma on stage... Now, I'm a singer and I sing this song at every concert. Thank you Joss ❤
@@RWM_ I’m eclectic. And thanks for asking! Here it goes: 1. Elis Regina (Atras da Porta - ao vivo) 2. Aretha Franklin - Amazing Grace (1972) 3. Ella Fitzgerald - One Note Samba (1969) 4. Diana Damrau - Queen of the Night (Royal Opera) 5. Whitney Houston - Star Spangled Banner (1991) 6. Cynthia Erivo - I’m Here (2017, in the 12:18 min video, it starts at 7:42) 7. Judy Garland - Old Man River (1963) 8. Lauryn Hill - Joyful Joyful (Sister Act 2) 9. Billie Holiday - I'm a fool to want you (studio version) 10. This one (this list changes, from time to time.)
Best cover of any song I've EVER heard, hands down. Her vocals are flawless and her strutting around through the audience barefoot just adds some classy guts to the whole presentation!! Fabulous rendition!!
Another "run for her money" performance of Dusty Springfield's classic! Personally, I think Joss does a better job! Gotta hear it! She's got the audience by the... too!
COMPLETELY agree with you! This old-timer remembers Dusty Springfield's version of this song in 1968, and I've heard every cover version too. Joss' version is simply the best, far and away! To me, Dusty's original was sexy sweet. Joss' cover version is sexy hot! SOOO much soul! SOOO much power! SOOO much passion! Like you, I love that she's doing the show in her bare feet which is actually somewhat of a trademark for her. Some years ago, Amy Grant did that too as did Sophie B. Hawkins, and I believe it's super-natural and super-hot. Joss herself, I believe, is way-hot! She is to me anyway! Just being honest. Can't help it. It's true! Peace & Joy
1:41 will always get me the chills down the spine. Such a delivery in this performance. I remember watching this live, to this day still remains as one of the most soulful performances i have every listened to. Also, she's living it in the moment, barefoot and a really simple short dress, all you can focus on is her voice.
this song is how I found Joss. Hadnt heard of her since I was raising two little boys at the time. Then my son's both grow up to be singers: Davis and Landon Cube. I've begged Landon Cube to try and do a duo with her. Also Joss and Bo Bice would be awesome together!!!!
Joss's the best modern female rock singer, and one of the most underappreciated. I came across the vid back in 2013. Greetings from a kazakh residing currently in Turkia.
So a sis gon' just walk right in there like she's going to her kitchen, slay everyone in the joint, then walk away like nothing ever happened?....Yuh. Queen did that.
@@mamacube5677 only person that can sing Bobbie Maggie as well as Janis....though I think Jerry Garcia wrote it (not sure) with Bobbie as a woman. Kinda a shared song like All along the Watchtower...a few did it and it just hit with one of them.
I haven't seen Mr. Jimmy in a while, but I was watching out my window. Now that's ironic I can't move like Elvis any more. When I worked for Natalie & Michelle. I was so quick like that, these ladies gave me a chance when nobody else would ???
Amazing! Picture this...It was like she was relaxing at home; oops, i've got to run and sing a song; i'll be right back. Oh, i forgot my shoes...who needs shoes! Joss is so authentic, and her voice is incredible.
Joss Stone is an amazing soul artist. She has more talent, Jazz and soul in one finger than any hater has in their whole body. She done this song justice and Dusty would be proud :) Good on you Joss Stone :) Love the fact she didn't wear shoes :)
Better than amazing mate with unsurpased talent. I think you say they were duds was because every man there had a boner and the ladies... well...it will get too rude. awesome
Stones fault is that she has the lot. A Motown voice, catwalk looks, and sexy as hell without effort. All of which do not I think go down well in Grim Britain: we love our homegrown talents to have flaws, to be some kind of underdog. She is a staggering talent, mature beyond her years, with a genuine passion for her art, and has the audacity to be happy - so no suprise that envy follows her.
Or maybe it's because she's never in the UK, does radio in the UK, performs on TV in the UK, or does any promo what-so-ever in the UK apart from special events like this. She does all that stuff in the US. Her tours still sell out in the UK without it, she's just not known on the Adele/Winehouse level. Plus she only really sings/records covers which is majorly looked down upon in the UK.
A woman... Wow, theplanet don't knows how is a woman..Finally, some artists believe that if they expose their beauty to the public in the present case, wow ... a miracle happened. Who cares?! She has enough voice and even seems lame from my point of view. There are legends of music that have remained in our memory and have only to sing. But this is sometimes the case of life and we wonder why women sometimes lose their respect for men, worldwide speaking ...
@@memyselfandi2506 Actually some people are if you read enough of the comments. ;) But that's just one more reason we've all gotta stop reading comments lol
@@memyselfandi2506 yea maybe you have to sink to replies to find the criticism, that way I found like 3 people being negative on 2 threads before I reached your comment. but it's all silly stuff anyway, you're honestly better off not having found them :)
Man, I've watched this again and again, over the years because it's so daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaamn awesome! One of the badassiest performances I've ever seen, hats off, Joss, wow!
A room full of nodding out junkies, would have been more enthusiastic. I'd kill to see this preformed live. And, I'd get up and dance in the aisle. This audience couldn't have been alive.
Toni Scott Yes she is so great for painting her beautiful feet's cute toenails as well completely black in the two videos she sings with Leigh Coleman but I am surprised she isn't married to have sex with her boyfriend yet!
+Lee Baker If you're referring to her 'controversial' Brits awards presentation - that took place the following year in 2007. She's probably about 19 years old here! She is a force! She's paid the price to do it her own way - and IMO, has done so with strength, grace and integrity. And... listen to the audience erupt upon her last note.
+fliptoad98 It means that you have a long tradition of being boring. That's what the whole world thinks of you and your "proper-ness," deserved, or not. Look at the Aussies and Yanks...they know how to have a good time!
Come on now guys be nice... Kinda felt sorry for Joss Stone because it looked like the audience was stunned on her outfit rather than her voice... I'm guessing maybe they thought the outfit was too revealing for the song choice judging by their expression??? Or maybe it's really a tough crowd to please... With a voice like hers I be on my feet 😂😂😂😂
Audience is shitty, King and Queens and Lords form 17 century would behave more lively. I would not judge them for staring at outfit of Joss and her perfect body. The voice is the most important, but I would stare at her perfect body and her lovely bare feet. By the way the style of the dress is perfect, but color is bad, I think Joss would look even more beautiful without that dress. :D Love her.
TRUE STORY: My first comment is 10 years old and got no likes. So here I am again. Joss absolutely killed this song. Sidenote: She looked good doing it.
I can't agree with you more. I come back to this video often. This is an incredible live vocal performance. Her timing around the audience and back to the stage by the end of the song was perfect. The audience is SO awful and uptight when we are being delivered an INCREDIBLE live performance. What's wrong with them? She absolutely KILLED it!
GREAT GREAT Version.... I like it when at 1:48 to 1:52 she is walking up the stairs :-)! The only moment she cannot catch her breath and you realize it is true performance... the only moment she is a human being.... everything else is straight from heaven!!!!
There's something about Josh Stone, her voice, and the way she Dressed; she reminded me of an angel. She worked @ WMCA in Jamestown New York...🤔 I wanna wish her a Merry Christmas & thank you so much just because I was so in a bad way.
