If you are a #culture lover and a people person, you will enjoy this short video of #Canarian #musician Rogelio Botanz and his 96-year old father singing Jota Naverra, a folk song from their original homeland of #Navarre in #BasqueCountry. They moved to #Tenerife in the 1970s when Rogelio was about 20 years old. This vignette to me speaks of memory, #identity, and love of place and family.
In making short documentaries about culture, I do a lot of research and planning, but I cherish the serendipitous moments that can occur, such as this one.
Look for a film soon about Rogelio and his colleague Andres Molina who together are the duo of Taller Canario. They create #music that blends the sounds of the #Guanche and #CanaryIsland #heritage with world beats and their own innovations. I think you'll find their approach and philosophy is thought-provoking and invigorating!
At a time of unprecedented negativity, Flip the Lens (FTL) is a platform for positive short videos that celebrate our #humanity and #culture. We publish videos created by regular people who happen to have an interest in what it means to be human. We believe if you have a phone, you are a filmmaker!
FTL is for anyone who wants to be part of a movement to shine a light on what is good about people, culture, and what we share in common. If that describes you, we feature videos in four genres: Short video interviews, Mini documentaries, Video slide shows that feature cultural landscapes, and Video Point of View essays on some dimension of what it means to be human.
