Wow, honestly I am excited and thankful for all the work you are doing to make so many of us better people from the important survival lessons to the moral lessons you exhibit, unlike the folks in Hollywood. This style of love of Country is what the USA is all about. Thanks again Dave. That squirrel gravy looked excellent.

Hey Dave, I planted some blight resistant potatoes this year. Every plant grew superbly and yielded many potatoes. They really are an excellent survival food. Us Irish survived on them for generations and they still are part of our main diet. It's where we get most our vitamin C. Just imagine how blight resistant potatoes would have saved so many lives in the past. God bless, brother in Christ, SAM

Dave, you're an inspiration to us all. And if you're not, you should be. It's all too rare that we see those who are truly pursuing what they love, and even more rare we see somebody whose not afraid to admit and proclaim their love and faith in the Savior and Creator. Don't worry bout all the flack you're gonna catch for it either, your rewards will be great, and it seems your current rewards ain't so bad either. Keep it up and have a Merry CHRISTmas, GOD bless ya brother.

@Vinorep I also have had chef experience and I am also from the south (very familiar with a roux). When cutting out some fat from roux, you can toast the flour slowly in a sauce pan to use as a "dry roux" as well. A dry roux can also be stored as a thickening agent and can be also mixed with gratauxn (which is the chard spice from the bottom of the pan when pan frying meats). Keep it up Dave! You are an inspiration to the common man!

Dave, I have to say this series has been some of the best videos I have seen in a while. Not to say I don't like your other stuff, but I really feel like you have found a niche that is needed! Today on our podcast we were talking about this series, and I hope you don't take this the wrong way, but I would like to see this as a series more than Dual Survival. I'm really enjoying this series Brother, makes me remember why I got on RU-vid to begin with! Be Safe, - Adam

Potatoes - I tried an experiment this past summer and planted potatoes in the wild fields. I buried them and left them. I did not even hill them or water them. I then checked them in November as I was very busy. The ground was semi frozen, but the potatoes were fine. So, you do not need buckets to grow potatoes anywhere.

That's pretty impressive. I have never even heard of squirrel potato and onion gravy stew, but it does sound good cooked over a wood stove like that. Now all you need are a few biscuits to go with it.

@wildernessoutfitters I have wild onions and garlic planted all over my property here in the Ozark mountains. They do a great job of repelling chiggers and no-see-ums so I can walk around barefoot in summer. In a long term situation you could plant them around the yurt and I'd bet it would minimize any ground dwelling insect problem.Plus you could harvest them for cooking. I've been here 7 years and they always make it through winter....snow and all.

You have made a very nice dinner. On some other occasion, you might want to consider cutting the squirrel into small pieces and stir frying it with some wild onions in lard. Stir frying only takes a small hot fire. It is a style of cooking that opens up a lot of possibilities.

Great Video Dave. Thanks for keeping the faith brother! Have you ever made Mountain Pie? You buy a mountain pie maker (two pans hinged in the rear with two long handles atached to the top and bottom pan in front), bread, and any kind of pie filling you want. Grease the pans top & botton, lay in a slice of bread, pour in some filling (blueberry is great) put another slice of bread on top, close the lid and stick it in the fire for a few minutes. The pan seals the bread all around. Enjoy!

And may God prosper you (and yours) that you may (all) continue to share and learn with this community. My eyes are not as good as they once were and my Bible weighs a ton. Have been trying to work a Kindle and a (Goal Zero Guide 10 Kit) Solar Charger into my extended kit. The kindle uses e-ink (no color and not back-lit) and one charge lasts for a week, or more. It does not require wireless coverage because you can download TONS of standard PDF files, from a PC. Bible, Maps, Manuals, Novels

Super video and Loved the Prayer! As said before if you don't like the prayer find someone else to learn from. Last time I checked we were livivng in the USA. We put up with the people that don't want to be Christian way to much. they want us to let them belive the way they to want but don't want to alow us to belive the way we want....

In the interior where I camp, we have the Nodding Sweet Onion. Beautiful little blue flowers and nice little bulbs. I can only find it when in flower though, it's VERY similar to the local sparse grasses otherwise and I lack the experience to identify it without the flowers.
