I usually prefer to journal at the end of the day. It helps me to process my day and clear my head so I can sleep better

Love that. While I don't write in my journal at night, I do have a closing down routine that does something similar.

I’ve been journaling for the last forever. I got too into the pens and books and too concerned with all the medium and not enough with the actual DOING, ie putting stuff down. Now I just use a squared hilroy spiral bound notebook with 200 or so pages, a blue bic, a ruler and a green and red pen from whatever staples had available. I number the pages, make a TOC and away we go!

I started on a 5-Minute Journal. A single page that's directed with simple questions. No pressure.

Thank you for this - I could not count the number of journaling videos I have watched, journal prompts, journal types - etc. This was simple and practical, and resonated. I appreciate your work!

Thank you, Mel. It's true, this is your journal and you can structure it, (or not) as you wish. I like to experiment with different ways to write my journal when I start a new one.

Newbie! I’ve been daily journaling since 1979! But what truly enhanced my experience was adding a leather notebook cover and using fountain pens since 2019 and Stalogy or Sterling Ink 520 page notebooks. Paper makes all the difference.

Carl, I journal at night, reflecting on the day and getting ready for tomorrow. I also put the time I write my journal. And then I comment on the weather. :) I like your book, too. A nice gathering of all your wisdom on being productive.

Thank you for sharing that, Michael. I know many people can write in their journals at night. For beginners it can be difficult to get consistent with night-time journaling.

Coincidentally, I clicked on this video right after I had finished journaling this morning! Great tips, thank you. Jotting notes on the weather is exactly how I got started. I love to sit outdoors first thing in the morning, so I then progressed to nature observations. The first time I ranted about something that aggravated me the day before is when I learned the power of journaling. Actually writing down words helped me clarify my thoughts, come up with a solution, and see the situation with a calmer perspective. And yes, I use a favorite (hardback) notebook and pen (purple ink!)

I started journaling about 6 months, when I got back into collecting fountain pens, after a 20 year hiatus. Time didn't stop me from collecting both pens and paper over the years, and it must be an inner desire to write. In any case I've started to journal or write a dairy. I'm not sure sure which it is, but putting pen to paper is relaxing and at times, a shear joy. BTW I've gone back to using fountain pens exclusively. Nothing really expensive, although, my older ones like Parker, Schaeffer, Esterbrook, and Pilot are no longer low cost. Love your hints in the video.

Journalling in the evening is part of my daily routine and I rarely miss a day. I like it as a winding-down half-hour, with screens turned off before I go to bed. In the morning, I'm in my planner, sorting my tasks for the day. I write with a fountain pen too (TWSBI Eco is my favourite) and Clairfontaine paper (but not always Rhodia, I'm currently using CF's own brand).

Definitely a powerful outcome when we journal daily. I can say that when I stopped there was something missing and I wasn’t as effective as when journaling. It really helps offload stuff and also self reflect. Brilliant video Carl. I like your folio

Thanks, Carl. I have a pocket notebook that I used to keep notes in during my desk job 12 years ago. I love looking back at those old notes, and I'm thinking of starting up again, also to improve my handwriting, which has definitely declined since I stopped. The only thing I’d miss is the ability to search for specific words or topics I’ve written about in the past. I really love having that feature. But if my handwriting improves, maybe I could quickly scan each day’s text and save it to a device as a backup. Text scanning has come a long way in the last couple of years.
@Carl_Pullein
@Carl_Pullein 25 дней назад
Hahaha my handwriting became worse after spending five years only writing on screens with styluses and Apple Pencil. Switching back to using a fountain pen helped me to get my handwriting back to something readable.

I love "analogue" journaling, been doing so for a long time now, well over 10 years - it is such as therapeutic way to start the day, ideas formulate, issues resolve themselves, colleagues get annihilated without the need for HR ;) . rants get ranted, I love it. Deffo going to check out that notebook cover - I have an A5 one currently, always journaled A5 style and never considered B5 before... I like the idea of more real estate (and an excuse to try out yet another notebook manufacturer!). Thanks Carl, great video.

I've watched a lot of videos on journaling over the years and I have not been able to make it feel less awkward, or less like someone is reading over my shoulder, so my journaling bouts are always short lived. This is the only video I've seen where you are encouraged to be shallow in your writing (at least to start out), and I find this point of view very freeing. Thank you for the insights.

I started going mad on journalling back in 2010 just because I wanted to use a fountain pen (FP). That was the only reason I started to write. Now I have a collection of FP's of all prices; loads of notebooks and I just write whatever the hell I want to. It would all be rubbish to anyone else but to me it's a mind clearance if something is worrying me.....write it down....get it out of your head and on paper. This point is critical if you're trying to sleep with worrying thoughts. Just get a notepad, write it down and deal with it later. I journal all day long and keep a food diary and all sorts of randomness in my notebooks 😆 Traveler's Notebooks; William Hannah; Paper Republic... I use and love them all. I fell out with my MB 149 but that's another story. 👍🏻😄 Nuria @ GoodINKPressions is awesome. I've been using her books for a long time. Great choice.

To pronounce Leuchtturm: - it's 2 words put together: "Leucht" and "Turm" - Leucht like "oik" - Turm like "term" (although in German you'd use more of a "ooh" sound) - so it's pronounced "Loik-term" It means, literally, "light tower" - i.e. lighthouse 🙂

Good video sir. Have enjoyed making my own A5 journal booklets - was gifted a lot of good quality paper. Perfect fit for my Lochby cover. Also love my Platinum Preppy fountain pen. Writes way too well for less than $10. All of this lets me think more clearly on paper.

Anthony Neil Wedgwood Benn (3 April 1925 - 14 March 2014), known between 1960 and 1963 as The Viscount Stansgate, was a British Labour Party politician and political activist who served as a Cabinet minister in the 1960s and 1970s.
