Journalist discusses the history of serial killer Robert Garrow 

I remember it well. Troopers had road blocks all summer long/ The sheriff gave my mother a gun as she was alone at Spy Lake. Even showed her how to use it!!!

One evening when I was 14 years old I was watching the 6 o'clock news with my father, they said Garrow had stolen a 1967 white chevy chevelle with a loud exhaust. About 5 five minutes later that car went by our house very slowly, when he got to the top of the hill he could see the police lights at the road block at county rt. 29 and trout brook rd.,he turned around and came back, he was looking for another car to steal. We couldn't get our guns from upstairs fast enough, when my father went out the front door and hollered at Garrow, he took off and was caught in mineville a few days later.

I grew up in mineville and I remember how the search cars would be a quarter mile apart all day. A constant patrol. Then at 7pm they would pack up for their hotel rooms and the village was on its own until searches began again until morning. We didn't go anywhere on our farm unless we were in pairs and armed. We could hear the shots that took him down. The girl who's body was found wasn't found by passers by. She was found by a couple teenagers exploring the abandon mine shafts. They told their parents, and the parents didn't at first believe them. After a week of nightmares they convinced their parents to go with them and see for themselves.
