No, the Common loon (Gavia immer) is a different species to the Common merganser (Mergus merganser). Thanks for watching 😊

@BritHikesOntario ok birdnerd... in an ‘I like birds too’ way.... my nerdy bird UK parents grew up in Africa and Asia, but both animal doctors so they think they know everything about every animal. Have birds of Ontario, birds of Canada, birds of the northeast...all those books,,. Dad died a few years ago, still filling the feeders for mom, but seems to be mostly squirrels...and crows... we get finches blue jays, cardinals, orioles, doves chickadees (who doesn’t) and a few cool ones with metallic feathers.... my redwing blackbird call in indistinguishable from the real bird haha

@@chrisrandall2710 Hi Chris, The bird with the metallic blue feathers sounds like a Common Grackle. Glad you get to enjoy feeding the birds together with your Mom. Those Grackles and Blackbirds can really take over at this time of year. But they migrate south in the winter and natural food is less plentiful, so you should get to see more Cardinals, Nuthatches and Woodpeckers. I wrote this article a while back: brithikesontario.com/best-food-for-your-birdfeeder/
