I was amazed when I saw this video my first time with this on in Las vegas. But another one that hit the spot was his rendition of "Be Good to Yourself" very well sung and his performance was tops.
Chris you are spot on other than Perry, Augeri had a lot of soul that made him an appealing singer as Perry. The arrival album is so underrated it's a shame !
Robert, you totally nailed it. Arrival was an AWESOME album. So much that IF Steve Perry was still with the band, sounding as good as Steve Augeri did at that time, the album would have NO doubt been plantinum. Problem is the timing was TERRIBLE as many Journey fans wrote off Journey with Steve Perry and Augeri joined and the album could not get the support from the radio and social media, phones wasn't as prevalent at the time to get exposure. Part of me understands, BUT Perry would have been short lived anyway due to always butting heads with Niel Schonn so his exit was inevitable. I don't think Steve Augeri got the credit he deserved. I saw him 3 times live and he did a great job as a front man replacing SP 😉
I look at it this way, I enjoyed Arrival just as much as any of the other prior albums. It was a great thing to see the guys back together. Time is ruthless and we all grow old and lose skills. Steve had his time, I hope he made some money.
SA had the sweetest tone. Not the soaring limitless SP power, but a really nice compliment to the legacy sound of Journey. Arnel is incredible and we have this band because of him, but it’s a shame SA’s was bettered cared for by the band, their touring schedule, etc.
No way Augeri was was the best front man Journey ever had. Hands down it was Steve Perry, but Augeri was a great second to Perry. Love Augeri, hate Neal for not sticking with him.
It wasnt that Neal didn't want him Steve lost his voice due to some issue vocally and has now returned sing again some Journey Songs as well as his own..
Steve Augeri was using auto tune. Plus reason why he stopped singing for Journey is because he got issues with his auto tune. He’s trying to reach every Steve Perry high notes.
Chris, the band had NO choice and had to move on from Augeri. His voice was shot, gone toast mid way through they're last tour with him. I loved Steve A. BETTER than Arnel. I saw Augeri in concert last year touring with Lou Graham and a couple other old stars. He sounded TERRIBLE his voice was shot. I really felt bad for him and wished I had saved my $$$. Lou Graham was average at best.
@@bradcrawford1998 Augeri's voice sadly was damaged by 2004 , on the tour before Generations . They had toured him so much .. just they did with Perry .
LYRICS HERE !!! You've been picked and it's over What's the chip on your shoulder? Outside were solid rainbows Inside is where the heart grows Picking up the pieces Something more to believe in As you search the embers Think what you've had, remember Hang on, no don't you let go now You know, with every heartbeat, we love Nothing comes easy Hang on, ask the lonely You've got some fascination With you high expectations This love is your obsession Your heart, your past possession Let down your defenses Won't be up to the one who cares As you search the embers Think what you've had, remember Hang on, no don't you let go now You know, with every heartbeat, we love Nothing comes easy Hang on, ask the lonely When you're feeling love's unfair You just ask the lonely When you're lost in deep despair You just ask the lonely When you're feeling love's unfair You just ask the lonely When you're lost in deep despair You just ask the lonely When you're feeling love's unfair You just ask the lonely When you're lost in deep despair You just ask the lonely Ask the lonely When you're down in deep despair When you're down in deep despair Ask the lonely Lonely Lonely
Augeri never gets his due...he was great. No Augeri, no Journey 2.0 to Arnel. Give Arnel credit because it is very hard on the high tenor voice to tour...Steve's voice box broke down and Deen had to sing 4-6 songs per show which is insane your drummer sounds even more like Steve Perry!
myway48, either of them made a difference for Journey and what a journey this band had over the years. Problem WAS, Perry wanted to move on for himself, without Journey and his comrades had no choice but let him go. So did for Augeri when he got sick. I believe there is no such coincidence. Everything happens for a reason, to put it divinely, to pave way for Pineda.
ARR1289, you are right, nobody can ever be like Perry, such a tough one to follow. But it is good thing that people are able to open doors for any future artist who can readily embrace the Journey and blend well with them. One who not only can sing, but a man who has good spirit, one who can influence his peers to be a better man. I am speaker therefore of Arnel Pineda
Love how the AutoTune they ran his voice through catches at 3:25 on "lonely" and holds the note until he sings again. Great performance by Augeri, they really shouldn't have pro-tooled it though, he was good by himself!
I’m a huge huge Steve augeri fan I’ve watched your other videos could you please upload stone in live and separate ways from this concert I would appreciate so so so much I love his vocals I try to own all hit live stuff most of it is bootleg!
Yes yes everybody , he ,S.A is my favorite journey singer , before Neil, ruined his voice.(unfair of me ((I still think they should have been much more patient with Steve) but. ......I really feel when you see him and it's when he got real confident and in those moments I feel as if he was the real total package as what any lead singer would want to emulate I am in my 50s and as a lead singer for several different bands in the Seattle area ,and I think that Stephen is a real role model , he also and I mean this in every possible good way , that he is known with the moniker " The nicest guy in the biz."I really miss seeing him perform on the big stage with this band.
Yeah Dean said that in the Journey Behind the Music special. I loved Steve A. Saw him 3 times and enjoyed his shows better than Arnel. You could at least understand Steve between songs, he was cool. Arnel was not very clear. Songs were great, he did them well, when his voice was solid in the first 5 years. Arnel was still special so DON'T go ripping me for sharing my opinion.
I love this song. But Steve P has them beat. D. C. and Steve A . they come in second place. Running neck and neck with this one. They are good, but they not S. P. Now Arnell has the spot light. 🙏
I saw him with journey. I was completely blown away by Steve augeri's vocals and phrasing. I like his delivery more than arnel's. Arnel seems alittle hurried and sometimes kinda one dimensional.
When Journey lost Perry, they were so blessed to find Augeri. Who to me sounds every bit as good(if not better)as Perry(sounds a little nasally). Steve Augeri and Dean Castronova helped elevate Journey to possibly the best band of all time.Have seen Journey live with both Perry and Augeri, and simply, Augeri was Amazing with Journey. If he would have been before Perry, than people would be saying Perry wasn't as good as Augeri.Sorry you diehard Perry fans.Augeri sounds great live better than Perry
Great hundred times better then Arnel! The cool thing with Steve that he puts his own spin on the songs and he just not a copy of Steve Perry he has his own style and tone.
Arnel tries very hard but Augeri just has frontman swagger and timing for ad libs, etc. Augeri was a seasoned rock frontman for years before the journey gig. Pineda was a bar band cover song player. Not saying that pejoratively, but just to highlight that those two really were in different leagues in that regard. I loved the Steve A era til he blew his voice out.
Hehe 87buickgn1, quite funny but I don't know what feelings are you looking at, but guess what, should you have given yourself a chance to find out further, you will known that your so-called clown is for real
Tom Higham just because they have a different singer doesn't mean they are a tribute band, if steve perry jumped on stage tomorrow and sang one song with them it wouldnt mean they are the real thing for the one song. They are a good band and Arnel is a great singer and deserves respect for what he has done
