Theres a Steve Perry solo song.. the last one he did before his long hiatus from music.. called "I Stand Alone"... the music video is worth checking out. The song was for a movie but it really seems like he was telling Journey "I'm out".

Journey is known for their power ballads. Steve Perry’s voice is like no other. Writing duo Perry and Cain wrote so many of Journeys hits. I got to see them live in the 80’s with Randy Jackson on base. Look for the concert vision of Girl can’t help it. It’s a favorite.

That's Randy Jackson on bass. That last instrumental Melody at the end of the song, Steve saying that part in concert. You should listen to the official video.

One thing I love about this song is the twinkling keys during the chorus when Steve sings 'ooh there'll be someone else.' If you focus on the keys during the song, it really opens up and gives the song some color and dimensionality that would other wise be a relatively normal rock sounding chorus. But shimmer in some keys and give the mic to Steve perry and it's anything but normal.

Good song. 👍 Steve Perry was near his peak. Neal Schon on guitar 🎸 and backing vocals. He and singer/keyboardist Gregg Rolie quit Santana to form Journey. In 1981, GR retired. The Babys broke up. Ex member Jonathan Cain replaced GR. Randy Jackson on backing vocals and bass guitar 🎸. Late Larrie Londin on drums. He played in recordings with the late Elvis Presley. RJ + drummer Mike Baird played on tour. Produced by Steve Perry. Written by him, Jonathan Cain and Neal Schon. Steve Smith and Ross Valory did not tour. They had family problems. They rejoined Journey for the album Trial by Fire 🔥. After this album, Journey broke up. Jon and Neal co-founded Bad English. Ross and Greg Rolie co-founded The Storm. Steve Smith played in jazz fusion bands. Steve Perry took a long break. In 1992, Bad English broke up. In 1995, The Storm broke up. The Escape and Frontiers lineup of Journey reunited in 1996. RIP Larrie Londin and Herbie Herbert, longtime manager.

The live version of this is even better than the studio one. Neal Schon shreds on the guitar and Steve Perry is better live! There are several other videos from that tour on RU-vid. If you want to do a deep dive on Journey, check out "Frontiers and Beyond". It is a behind the scenes and origins of the band look, about an hour and a half long. Great stuff and a must watch for any serious Journey fan.

This album was close to the end of Journey. Steve wanted more control and Ross Valory and Steve Smith removed. Enter Randy Jackson on bass and Larry Londin on drums. This was Herbie Herberts last album as manager. I remember this album was not as good as previous albums. It started to become repitition, same melodies over and over. 10 months on the road from arena to arena sold out shows took its toll on the band members and burnout. The in fighting and control battles was all on the news. I think it was mid 90s a slight reunion that didn't last. Mid 2000s and new life with Arlen Pineda. Big shoes to fill but Arlen has a great voice also and concerts returned. If not for Arlen, there would be no Journey concerts.

Hope I don't offend anyone, but, IMO Neal Schon's guitar playing is a bit wasted on the ballad approach that Journey took when they realized that that particular genre, ballad rock, would sell like hotcakes. He is a top notch guitar player bridled by the arrangements.
