I don't think many people who are serious about art will say that (unless they're really out of touch, old and/or stuck up). But I'd say it's the scarceness and the niche status of video games that exists mainly for artistic purposes which makes people reluctant to view games as art on par with movies & music, for example. Like the interactivity & whole premise of them being _games_ mean they will generally exist to serve as recreational fun/entertainment and whilst being entertaining & artistic are far from mutually exclusive, it just makes it harder to make the case to art snobs that an entertainment-orientated medium should be taken more seriously. But yeah I guess many will argue games can be artistic but not art. I'm not sure personally - depends on which game it is.
Since video games are relatively recent. I would only consider a game "old" if it is from 2005 or before. Gangnam Style started in 2012, and no one would say that's old. Or Inception that is from 2010 and people still say is one of the best recent movies.
“Along this road goes no one”, this is profound if you think in life for itself. Even if you have friends or family, life is a thing that you live and discover in loneliness, because only you can feel what you truly feel. People come, people goes, and you just keep walking without knowing why you’re doing this, life is a real Journey where you don’t know where you from and don’t know where you going.
Journey proves that you don't have to have a game that has a complicated story and graphic to make a game that shows its emotion through the music. I found it sad when I finally figured out those scenes we were being shown after we finished an area.
When i finished playing the game, the ending saying good bye to that stranger who i never spoke to but stood by my side made me sad and shed a tear... Feel in love with this game❤
😊it's beautiful what you said. It reminded me of when at the end of the game me and the stranger always give each other a heart on the sand just before you finish the game and we always do it for goodbye 😍
The sentence "Ne me Plaignez/Do not pity me" Whatever happend to someone that has a long journey, through happiness and sadness, or even most of them are sadness, he/she was born for this and he/she can get it through. So do not feel pity about it. Which mean be grateful for what we have been through 'til this time.
@@skrrskrr526 I've always interpreted that line as referring to the very last scene when the player enters the light, it comes right after such a euphoric and triumphant moment with apotheosis until the track begins to settle down again and starts to return to the opening theme. This moment is death and it's lonely it's bittersweet, your partner was with you for almost everything but you have to make this final step alone. At the same time you also reincarnate and through that meteor you saw in the first cutscene you restart your journey all over again, with all the knowledge you gained with someone who helped you go through every trial and reach the peak. By this point you've realized your true purpose, to help others like they've helped you, to make their journey's easier not just by using your wisdom to remove obstacles but also be by their side in the cold dark path and remind them they're not alone when they're struggling. This is inner peace. So don't pity me, don't feel sad that this journey is ending, I'll be back here again one day, this is what I was born for.
You know what Journey actually symbolises, what it actually means?? It is the wordless story of life. And it teaches us something special. That all across our life we'll come across several people, it is how they touch our lives that matters. And that in despair (literally signified by the icy area) there'll always be hope and we must never give up until our legs give out. And that to never lose hope. Also it means that sometimes you meet someone in life with whom you can spend the entire "Journey" of life with, while someone else goes through everything alone. Overall, it teaches us that life is not as easy as we think it to be (literally the feeling in the initial area of the game), and as we go on, as we carry out our journey of life we realise our responsibilities, our duties.
I know the lyrics are in the actual video, but I wanted to make a comment to break down all the languages this song includes Stat sua cuique dies Stat sua cuique dies - Latin Maél is mé tó féran - Old English Ōleto men moi nostos Ōleto men moi nostos - Greek C’est pour cela que je suis née - French Kono michi ya Yuku hito nishi ni Kono michi ya Aki no kure - Japanese C’est pour cela que je suis née Ne me plaignez pas C’est pour cela que je suis née - French
I still come back here often, this song and game really holds a lot of sentimental value to me because I played it amongst many other games with my younger brother who recently committed suicide. We both felt the same sorrow and sadness and though he passed away I want to live for us both and hopefully in another place we can reconnect under better circumstances, just having pure fun.
So sorry for your loss. It is beautiful and inspiring that you choose to live for the both of you. I had to bury my son some years ago. He was a miscarriage at 32 weeks. Never got to take a breath on this earth. But like you, I live in for him. I am open to him and am here for him if he ever feels lost looking down here. I also live so that he can too feel all of life’s experiences whether good or bad. God bless you and your brother’s soul. You were born for this
Yeah, it has stopped being a discussion long ago. The earliest videogame that I know is a piece of art dates back to 2002, and I'm sure there are examples further before that one. With the amount of masterpieces that have been made in their history, the only people that still say they are not art, are close minded fools
One of the best games I've ever played. When the music came on in the end, I cried. So many emotions rolled over me while listening to it. Sadness, empathy, regret, hope, joy. Few songs can make me feel that range of emotion. This and MGS4 Victory Song will always bring me to tears. Thank you for this amazing song and amazing game.
[Ancient Greek] Oleto men moi nostos, atar kleos afthiton esta. - Iliad Ι’ 13 Translation: There is no return for me, but glory will be eternal.
I get chills every time she sings “Je suis”. From the first time I heard it when the game was first released to this very day. Never fails. Lizbeth Scott and Austin Wintory are amazing. Thank you thatgamecompany!
Something really weird happened to me with this song... after I played this game I loved the song so much, I started to listen to it all the time... by that time, I was reading an awesome book (Lord of Light by Roger Zelazny, I totally recomend it)... anyway, I was reading it at all times, and at the same time I was listening to this song... this happened for a very long time... and now, every time I listen to this song, I kind of feel the happiness I felt when reading that book, and at the same time it makes me want to read... I kind of conditionated myself (not on purpose) to want to read when listening to this song, and to feel really well when doing so :)
The lyrics of this song are in ancient greek too. There is a mistake though...in 1.30 Its "oleto men moi nostos"; in ancient greek means "there is no return for me"; these were the words of the great Achilles in Ilias of Homer.
so beautiful....... i love it :') *crying at the beauty* -1 dislike?! ok now i know there's people who just dislike cuz they feel like it, not cuz the video is bad, cuz there's no way on this earth that someone can not like this. unless you're deaf. nevermind...-
I am yet to find a game that can better convey emotions than the way this game does. I still play this game and I hope they remaster it for the ps5 and put that version on pc maybe with better graphics, better physics and more detailed models, 3d audio and some bug fixes. But I can't complain, this game is by far 10/10 for me to this day and is probably the most replayable game I've ever owned.
:O amazed, the editing of the video is so well done, you really grabbed the good parts of the game to put in the video, more people should watch this...
Actually this quotes Joan of Arc "Ne me plaignez pas, c'est pour cela que je suis née." Before this sentence, she says : "Tout ce que j'ai fait est par ordre du Seigneur, j'en attends bon garant et bon aide... " > "Everything I've done is ordered by God, I witness good guarantor and good help..."
Hey Christopher Smith I love this video that you made and I would love to sing along to it at my senior voice recital. If I could have your permission to use it, then that would be stellar!
@@magolor7856, Lisbeth (the singer) also didn't trill the r in 'feran' when singing the line in Old English. She has a lovely voice and sings well, but her pronunciation of the foreign languages is a tad off.
***** Seriously, how many games have you played? This one has nice graphics, nice soudntrack, and thats about it... nothing more. Regarding the most important aspect of the game which is the gameplay... absolutely BORING, one of the most boring and empty games I've ever played.
fun fact: this singer (I forget her name, sorry) was also the vocalist from the Mass Effect 3 OST "A Future for the Krogan" ie the piece at the end of Priority: Tuchanka
I have already listended to it tons of times but I didn't understood the lyrics but now this is wonderfull 'cause I can sing my favorite part ^^ (french) (I didn't recognize it was french before this vedeo even if I am french... )
Unfortunately the game crashes every time when it's about to show me a name of a player who I finished the game with. It's so sad that I can't know who my partners were ;c
how many languages are there? "nostos" sounds like ancient greek....it starts with latin? then it ends with french... oh here it is "ὤλετο μέν μοι νόστος" its from homers iliad!...dang im so proud right now...(im greek)
