Foreign media starts from chandni chowk and ends up at dharavi this is the only two places that defines India.

Its funny and so true.....Actually the fact today is that only we Indians know what paradise India can be if u start exploring.....These foreigners just have to go to all those cliche places and film only those parts of country which are familiar with western public......

If you think from their point of view, it would make sense. They don't have anything like Chandni Chowk or Dharavi in their countries so they are drawn to them. We have very few developed localities comparable to the West in our cities, so we are drawn to them. Besides, the educated classes of Lutyens and SoBo have trained themselves ignore the poverty and underdevelopment but are still very conscious of the "image of their city" in the eyes of the foreigners, so they expect them to turn a blind eye to it as well.

Dear CNBC, As a resident of Mumbai, I have no issues if you show its poor side, but while you are at it, it is important for you to show ALL sides of the city to get a more comprehensive feel of the city for the average viewer. The city has developed MASSIVELY in the last couple of years, but if you continue to show only dharavi every time you decide to show Mumbai,(which by the way will be replaced by a normal residential area through a plan set by the government) A laymen's impression of the city will continue to be of the city being dirty, filled with slums and cramped to the core. I am not being patriotic here or trying to show any love for the country, but as such a big media house, it is important to show a bit of responsibility when it comes to representing any place being recorded by you.

Oh PLEASE. CHILL. Dharavi is a major part of Mumbai.. and he did a good job of showing how Dharavi is not some slum which houses jobless bums.. but instead has THRIVING business entrepreneurs all working tirelessly. Sometimes we Indians are too over-sensitive.
@shivambakhshi4859
@shivambakhshi4859 5 лет назад
My friend, read what I have written in the comment. As I said, I am not being patriotic here or trying to defend India, but if you do read the title, it says that this video is about a documentary of Mumbai, not dharavi. Had the video specifically said that it intends to show dharavi, it would have had all my appreciation. However, as it is a documentary of MUMBAI (As has been specified by the title of the video), I do believe showing all parts of Mumbai to be the right way to show it. Tell me, if the title of a video has Rio De Janeiro, and only ends up showing the Favelas present over there without showing the beaches would you say that documentary has done justice to the city? In the same way, I really believe they could have shown more of Mumbai. However, they probably gather more views on showing the slums so can't really talk logic with these guys.
@abhijitguha494
@abhijitguha494 5 лет назад
I find in any visual piece on Mumbai; Dharavi gets the most space. Of course Dharavi is important, but that's just one part of Mumbai. It should not be shown as the central piece. Every other part should be an equal part of the Mumbai story. Just like the Hindi film industry (I refuse to call it "Bollywood") is a part of the Mumbai story.The local trains; the cricket germination process; all are equal parts.

@shivambakhshi4859
@shivambakhshi4859 5 лет назад
@Hᴜꜱᴛʟᴇ Lᴏʏ Yes, Mumbai and Delhi are far behind Singapore, Shanghai, Hong Kong, NYC etc. That's not what the point of my comment is. This documentary is about giving the viewer a flavour of what the city of Mumbai is like. If I had a friend/relative coming over and asked me to show him the city, I would show him so many awesome places like the BKC, Lokhandwala, Juhu, Marine Drive, Fort, Bandra, The amazing theatres, Cafes, Malls and so much more. I also would show them the slums because why not? But my point is, that does Mumbai finish at Dharavi? The title of the video clearly indicates a video about Mumbai, the city not Just Dharavi. Why make Dharavi the sole representation of the city when it has so much more to offer? That's my only point. Not to debate on the economic development of the city in comparison to its international counterparts, but to contest the manner in which the city has been represented as a whole in this video.

Of course a number of dumbed people because of corporations like yours would want you to go to the slums you are the reason they are so uneducated when it comes to modern India. next time head off to gurgoan,noida ,Bangalore that was voted the most dynamic city in the world a true technological hub or how about you heading off to Chandigarh or shimla and showcasIng both the beauty and vast Urban development there .you could actually showcase New Delhi (not old Delhi like you people love to do )and film just how illustrious and well developed New Delhi actually is and then you could shoot with the middle class kids in south Delhi and visit all the sprawling malls huge skyscrapers and beautiful suburbs .why not shoot in malabar hill in Mumbai or shoot all the suburbs there .this vile colonial hangover has to stop it's blatant indo phobia a trick to keep people believing that they are living on the better side of the world when in reality they are not a middle class kid living in south Delhi will have a better life than someone living in Detroit .why not make a film about how much the vedas with all it's great philosophy And amazing scientific knowledge impacted the whole world as well as Sanskrit contribution to many different languages globally or a film showcasing how india is one of the most diverse vast and complicated regions on earth you could also make a film examining Sikhism And all the good it's people do or how India gave home to the bene Jewish people as well as the Parsi and Syrians Christian's when they needed it a place that historically has had no anti semitism . you could also touch upon all the different cultures states religions and ethnicities of one of the most fascinating places on earth.why not film about indias contribution to science and medicine and How much the Indian diaspora has impacted the world especially in America with many ceos being Indian that Is a great success story everyone needs to learn about indias diversity as well as the influence the indus has had on the world as well as being educating on modern India colonialism And indo phobia go hand in hand everyone needs to be taught about that for once show the lives of the Young Urban middle class kids why not try and be impartial instead of biased i knew before I watched it it would just be showing slums once again the colonialists oversimplifying such a diverse nation that is fast becoming one of the strongest economies in the world for those people who have had actual real pro longed exposure and spent time in the Urban cities you can see just how snesky this is never showing the other side also go film in Sikkim Ladakh or himachal And show the breathtaking beauty there the irony after filming he likely chilled at all the plush Bars and restaurants laugh out loud

Great Job CNBC for showing Dharavi slum of Mumbai in the video because Government of Maharashtra has signed a deal to develop the entire slum with private builders. People will be shifted to residential towers in phases. Check Times of India for reference. Good job because you many not be able to shoot the slum in two to three years as it won't exist in few years.

@@KishanKumar-qz1kt No this one will not fail because Government will only invest 20% and rest 80% by the private builders. The problem is definitely challenging but this time the entire slum will be redeveloped and not in four to five parts as planned few years ago. Even the people have agreed as they will be getting bigger Houses. The builder will get concession on GST and many other taxes. Plus higher FSI.

What I can`t understand, why do my fellow westerners bargain on prices that are already crazy low compare to those what we used to here at home. What`s the point to bargain for about £0.25 discount, why don`t just buy it for 175 rupee, which is about £1.75? You would be happy to pay £10-£12 for that little dress in Camden Town`s (London) similar street market. Or am I wrong?

Can I recommend South East and East Asia. Start in Singapore and work your way north through Malaysia, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, China, South Korea finishing in Japan. I've only done this trip twice because it's very Tim consuming but I'm going in April and starting in New Zealand and making my way to Singapore through Australia and Indonesia. It'll be great!!!

I think this is the first time foreign media is showing actual India ! Many times they go to slums or poor . I don’t say there r no poor there r 21million poor but it has been much worse when British left India !

Pro tip for anyone looking to go shopping or bargain hunting in Mumbai: please go with a local. Shopkeepers will tend to quote you a higher price if they see you're a foreigner and are w/o someone local.

People complaining about showing daravi and traffics,, I'm from far rural region say,, still seeing here increasing pollution n traffic problems so it's no surprising for me. Secondly, seeing daravi here in video it was not at all bad, image is even cleaner n quieter than streets I think, don't know y so much pusss around in comments, guess we indians have a big mouth with gossiping n arguing. U even see how passionately n positively tour guide was sharing about daravi, like people should see more.

The City Of Dreams. The Maximum City. The New York of India. That's our Mumbai and Maharashtra. But western media show only the bad side of our most developed city. Go to the areas where the millionaires live and especially where India's richest man Mukesh Ambani lives.
