I have no formal electrician’s knowledge, but you just taught me a whole lot just now standing in Lowe’s. Cheers!

Nicely done Sir... I have one of these and used it to diagnose why our Christmas lights kept popping the GFI! Had too many!

how would you find energy draw from a hardwired appliance ?

Hardwired appliance electrical monitor. I never used one so I can't give any info on it. However you can do your research. Thanks for commenting.

Hi, if line splitter says "x10" why do you divide and not multiply the 2.34 reading on the meter?
@templebuilderscarpentry7043
@templebuilderscarpentry7043 8 месяцев назад
When using the line splitter, your reading will be 10x its value. So you divide by ten to get the actual reading. Thanks for commenting.

I know it's just moving a decimal- but that's just a weird design for a splitter. I've seen plenty of 1x and 1x+10x but '10X only' is just strange. Solid video but 10x "only" is still kinda odd. * The number at the top is the model number.

I read the pdf and it says divide by 10 if measuring on the x10. MEASURING LINE CURRENT Plug the Line Splitter into a standard 120V AC grounded receptacle. Plug the load’s power cord into the Line Splitter. Place the jaws of the current clamp around the X1 or X10 opening of the Line Splitter. Turn on the load so it is drawing power. Read the current measurement directly if clamped around the X1 opening. Divide the reading by 10 if clamped around the X10 opening.

That's what I said in the video divide your reading by 10. The line splitter has x10 etched on it . Thanks for commenting.

@@templebuilderscarpentry7043 reading I’m getting is exactly same reading on both sides air conditioner stamp is 7 amps reading is 11.69 if divided by 10 then it be 1 amp which doesn’t sound right. Keep re reading the instructions .unless this ac unit amps is not accurate then it would make sense for it to be higher. I guess I wanted to know if I’m doing the testing properly.

If the Amp draw is reading 1 to 4 amps, then you're reading the amps for the fan motor, and the compressor is not running. With the compressor running, the amps draw should be from 7 to 30 amps depending on the size of AC.
@templebuilderscarpentry7043
@templebuilderscarpentry7043 19 дней назад
Your compressor may have failed. However, I'm not there to inspect it or troubleshoot. So this is just an educated guess.

@@templebuilderscarpentry7043 a/c works fine no issues with unit I was trying to calculate true usage on amps to determine if running a generator what actual amps are being used . I Figure test items I want on and write it down and then determine if that something I can have on. As far as the ac readings ac was on with compressor on and the a/c specs are COOLING DATA: BTU-8,000 CEER-10.6 AMPS-7.0 EER-10.6 Also I really appreciate the replies thank you .

Why is it 10x?
@templebuilderscarpentry7043
For measuring small amperage loads that would otherwise be hard to read. Thanks for commenting.

9v is the answer. Check the battery in your detector.
