The way he sings, dances, touches the audience; I'll just put into the exact words Neil Shonn used to describe Arnel: "He's like David Lee Roth and Bruce Lee all rolled up into one." Perry was great, but so is Arnel, and even the actual members of Journey see it that way, which is why he's an official member of Journey. Hate him if you want, but Journey chose him, not the other way around, and now he's on stage doing what most of us will never do. Way to go Arnel!
I don't have a problem with this gentleman standing in for Mr. Perry. Steve choose to leave. The rest of the band have the right to play their classics that they ALL had a hand in. This guy is a very good singer in his own right and I am quite sure he is aware of what Steve brought to the table. Just enjoy and stop comparing like the thousands at this concert don't seem to be doing.
Steve has a reason to leave the group...with a hip injury...and during his absence, he gives his full support, and blessing to Arnel as the new lead singer for Journey, and the Jouney continues on...
Arnel may not be Steve Perry, but I'll tell you what....THIS GUY HAS ONE HELL OF A VOICE!! HE Freakin Rocks!! I haven't heard a range like his on ANYONE who can sing their ass off like he does. I could give a rats ass if he isn't Perry. If Perry never cared to get back with Journey, shit, oh well, se la vie. Arnel is the next best singer close to him. And that is what the public wants to hear. A voice that's sounds like and brings it like the old Journey we grew up listening to. That is what the fans want and are excited about!! I could listen to Arnel sing all day and any day!!! I'd pay big money to go and see them.

Arnel Pineda is the best vocalist of the Journey. when SP leaves Journey they have to look for replacement and Arnel simply the best front man of the Journey. Period.
Steve Perry left Journey in the 1980s and has no plans of rejoining. He is now over 65 years of age. At present, Arnel Pineda contributes greatly to Journey as they forged forward as a band. this cat is for real. Not too often when the replacement is as good as the original. If my eyes were closed, I would have bet my last dollar that this was Steve Perry singing. His range is phenomenal.
Arnel Pineda is a real deal. He is a master chameleon and can sing from A-Z, from Axl to Led Zeppelin and sounds close to the original. He can be a frontman of any rock band. Neal Schon was blown away by the massive vocals or Arnel Pineda that's why he picked him to be the next torch bearer of Journey. AP so far is the longest running frontman of Journey.
I know it's almost instinctive to be critical when a lead singer and icon leaves a band but I've gotta be honest when I say this guy is impressive as hell. Replacing Steve Perry would be an impossible task but I believe they did very well.
You know Journey was astounding and their guitarist and lead singer Steve Perry were among the elite. Now hear I listen to Arnel singing lead and I can say that he is truly astounding and is the perfect mesh to this group. I'm proud to tell you my wife is a Pinay and thus my children are 1/2 Filipino. Go Arnel! Go Pinoys!

He tried to stop by at SP's house 2 times to meet him and get an autograph but he was not home on 2 occasions he tried. A lot of the haters don't know the fact that as long as Arnel sings Perry's songs and is collecting revenues, Steve will collect royalty fees. Perry received $1.5M from the last Journey tour by Arnel performing and singing his songs. The Haters always saying for Arnel to change his style and sing his own songs...they have to be careful for what they wish for. When that happens, SP will lose all the royalty fees he is getting from Journey. Altho' I know SP don't need the money bec. he is worth $45M, who would say NO to $1.5M coming to him without him going to the tour? Arnel is really a HUMBLE guy and knows how to Pay It Forward. He already has foundation for homeless children in the Philippines and the Camp Rock to help the new musicians to train them and help them succeed. Yes, me too! I discovered after 8 years, while watching a video of him here in China last year. Been here just in 2015 and I think I missed a lot even Journey's concert in the Philippines. I hope they do a concert again in the Philippines and I'll make sure I'll be in the front row.

Maybe you would prefer to listen to the 'old' Journey songs and sing karaoke songs to tracks that don't have a lead singer that can emulate Steve Perry such as Arnel has done. Arnel is not here to replace Steve, he's here to help keep the Journey legacy alive.!.!..!. Rock On........
And most importantly, Arnel is helping Steve Perry with the royalty fees being PAID to him while Arnel continues to sing the songs he helped wrote with other members of the Journey namely Cain and Schon... As long as the songs are alive and people are still downloading them...Steve Perry is making $$$$$ from royalty fees. BUT a lot of Perry's fans want Arnel to stop singing the songs made popular by Perry...when that happens..NO more royalty fees going to Steve's pocket!!
Someone gets to live their dreams and instead of being happy for him people lash out because of their own inner frustrations. Arnel is living the dream and that's all that matters.
There will always be Journey with Steve Perry on vocals and the same with Arnel. We should spend less time comparing the two and more time enjoying the music that is Journey.
Just saw this video due to the present pandemic. Great songs, great voice. Superb performance by the Journey band and of course Arnel. Hope to see more concerts from Journey to entertain us fans from around the globe.
It is a shame that so much time is wasted arguing who is better Steve or Arnel .....neither they both have brought wonderful and unique voices to the band and for those who cant stand the band without Steve so be it . Go find some other band to listen to that makes you happy and let those of us who see this not as a betrayal of Steve but a celebration of Arnel and the band Journey continue to listen to an ageless band with a great sound.
I agreed with Mary-Anne Swanson!! I am NOT a Filipino but I love Arnel's singing, he has a wonderful voice from God, he made Journey LIVE again, continue with your awesome performance, I will be at your concert in July 2014! Way to go!!
No he isn't Steve Perry nobody is but he's damn good. I get a kick out of the haters I'm sure arnel is cryin all the way to the bank and getting more ass than a toilet seat. Keep rockin dude you do amazing thru the language issues and make the songs yours. The real fans have the final say and from the faces in the audience they approve job's yours do it great. I will catch the first show I can and I'm sure I will enjoy it as much as the original bands shows.

So I came to check this out after seeing that Steve Perry sang on stage last week for the first time in almost 20 years at an Eels concert. I always wanted to go to a Journey concert, but decided I never would after Steve left. I have to say, this Arnel Pineda is actually much better than I expected. Of course, Steve will always hold a special place in my heart, but hey, the show must go on! It looks like Journey made a great choice for lead singer - again.
Love Arnel and his story. Imagine this young guy from the Philippines given an opportunity of a lifetime to join Journey. Five minutes before this...his first performance...he wanted to chicken out. They said no he must go on. It must have been both thrilling and terrifying to perform before thousands and thousands of people. I love Arnel 's voice.

To be honest I still don't get all the hostility to do with the Journey front men. I saw Journey the first time in the late 70's. Perry was awesome, and remained awesome every time I saw him through the 80's and into the 90's.When the band broke up the second time, it was the end of an era. I saw them with Jeff Scott Soto...and although I've heard him sing great in other genres of sound...Journey wasn't for him. I'll leave him out of this. Now...Perry, Augeri, and Pineda...what's the beef? All Journey singers...all different times...all different voices....and? Each with their own time and their own sound. Personally I like Perry best, Pineda a very close second, but honestly one of my favorite all time Journey songs was sung by Augeri, "A Higher Place". I don't think anyone will ever come on scene with a voice like Perry's again. I also think both Augeri and Pineda patterned their sound on Perry for singing Journey...duh...of course they did. I'm not sure why that's bad. To be honest my wife likes Pineda better then Perry, I don't agree, but she doesn't think he's trying to sound that much like Perry, and that I do agree with. While the vocals are reminiscent of Perry...Pineda has his own voice for sure, and no one with any eardrum capacity can say he doesn't have a powerhouse voice. If Perry had never existed, Pineda would probably have never even been found. But if he had, he would probably have the same type of fanatical following that Perry has had. So all in all, what do I think about Journey front men? Quit arguing. I don't see the point. And by the way...who sounds the most like Perry? Not that it matters...but is it Pineda? Augeri? Nope...IMHO it's their drummer Deen...cheers and happy 2015!

Steve Perry and Journey have been as much a fixture and magnificent part of my young teenage life in the 1980's as the beautiful and awe inspiring woman in my first book "Loving Aretta" Open Arms was the first song we danced to in our 9th grade prom and fell in love too. Arnell you gave me such inspiration this morning with your powerful and honest soulful voice...dude you made me cry ;) Kudos on you and Journey for giving such a man as you the opportunity to stand in Steves place. :)
Steve Perry doesn't want to come back so why still hate the new Journey and always compare the new vocalist to Steve Perry if the original vocalist turned them down and made a solo hits? They are here just to continue the "legacy".

The guy has a great voice, but Steve Perry ruined Journey for any other singer. Every singer they hire will be measured against one of the greatest power ballad vocalists in the world.
I can't believe that they were able to replace one great voice with another. I'm 60 and I don't know why but I just never listened to Journey but I've been traveling thru time with You Tube and I can tell you. 1. this band can play 2. Steve Perry had one of the greatest fullest range male voices in rock, amazing and Arnel is as well, maybe just a little less so.

Im a musical producer also and I got to honestly say these two Steve Perry and Arnel are both absolutely incredible!Thats why people are still talking about them after so many years.Theyve both got natural talent and skill.Arnel voice is even more brighter but Steve Perrys got more EMOTION in his singing.What a Legend!
