Arnel is FANTASTIC! He is trying to fill the shoes of a Rock and Roll LEGEND. Not an easy task when you consider that out of the entire population of the planet, this is the closest there is, and unless Steve Perry had a clone, there is no way to match him. He deserves our support. If those posting are haters: get your own talent search going and see who YOU come up with. He has an accent when speaking, but his singing voice is remarkable, and it's good enough for the band who hired him!
Guitarist Neal Schon was the one who found Arnel Pineda performing for The Zoo on video and sought contact information to ask Arnel to audition for Journey. Arnel won the 2-day audition. Neal said after Arnel joined the band, "We feel very fortunate to have found Arnel."
I'm a die hard jorney fan & I like Steve Perry, too. But I'm open minded & learned to accept the truth that SP could no longer sing the way he used to when he was still young. Now here's Arnel Pineda who could sing like the young SP and the Journey songs and music are alive once again. Let's just enjoy the Journey music and have fun, okay. He is both exemplary in his voice, attitude that is all over him because of his humility, and most especially he is not there in the band to replace Steve Perry but he is filling in to continue the legacy of the Journey. You should know more Arnel as a person because he is his own persona. He is not mimicking anyone. Try to delve into the way he sings, you will notice that he has his own style.

To those who so easily shoot down Arnel for not being Steve Perry thank you stating the obvious and deserve the Captain Obvious Award. Is Steve a better frontman/singer than Arnel? That is debatable however anything said is all a matter of opinion. Who's opinion means the most? People who don't think Arnel has Steve's ability or the band Journey who believes in him. Believes that Arnel can breath new life into a band and to help move them on? What is hardly up for debate is Arnel's singing ability. It's funny people love to compare his voice to that of Steve Perry's which makes total sense seeing as Steve wrote a number of the hit songs as is associated with Journey and forever will be.The naysayers are setting up Arnel to fail for when you wish to compare your idol or someone you admire to a new comer then of course your thoughts and opinions are going to be for what you grew up with or previously liked. If you think about it, the only reason for this video or any type of discussion is because of Arnel and Journey's decision to make him the frontman. You can like him or not but comparing him to someone you already hold on a pedal stool is hardly fair. Yes, there is only ONE Steve Perry and yes, Steve's voice was unique and appreciated by his own fellow singers. I choose to appreciate Arnel for sharing his talent and singing from his heart regardless of whose shoes he's filling. I LOVED Journey when Steve was there and I love Journey now with Arnel albeit it's a "different" band.
Say what you like, this man has an incredible voice. It brings tears to my eyes. When I first heard this song, I was riding in my sisters 79 Trans Am (black and gold). To hear it again, 28 years later, and with such a great voice behind it, is beyond description.

Thanks, man! Journey will be perfoming live in Mla this coming Sat and I am now very excited to go to the concert. I was not a Journey fan untill Arnel's led me to discover how great the wole band is. Both his story, and singing are very inspiring. He struggled so much in life-he deserves the very best now!

Arnel is very good...probably the best replacement singer ever for Journey. i saw this lineup in 2009 when they toured w/ Heart & Cheap Trick. with that said...Journey does not sound the same without Steve Smith (!!!) and Steve Perry (!!!!). the Smith, Valory , Perry, Cain & Schon lineup was a musical miracle & these guys made magic.
I miss this one ha..I've been following journey since they have Arnel as their vocalist..I might say ..he still have it until now..watchl the virgin concert in Vegas..he is just amazing..love this boys
The two artists Steve and Arnel have almost the same tone and voice sounds., they still have each own unique attack of singing which is both incredible and great. Hurray to Arnel and Respect to Steve,the legend!!
Arnel is Journey's greatest lead singer. He puts the band on another level. Has everyone noticed the billing is "Arnel Pineda and Journey"? The man's fame and talent is incredible.
Again, amazing! I get so sick of the negative comments... shows those losers have no life... a person cannot "make" themselves sound like anyone else, they are simply singing with the voice God gave them. And that includes Arnel. Steve had his run, and while I still love him, I have the upmost respect for Arnel.
Arnel is a great rock singer! I saw his videos with his band in the Philippines doing covers of Rush, Police, Styx and many others. He sounded at least as good as the original singers. He fits in very well with Journey.

thanks man, u see man. now loads of young people know journey and SP because of this great reformation. yes, i hav grandchildren aged 7, 11 and 16 yrs old. 16 yrs old s a drummer in the school and a McFly fan (UK young band). he admired Deen now.
I think this guy has done a great job. He had awfully big shoes to fill. Steve Perry was excellent and probably still is but the fans still longed for the music of the band and Arnel Pineda has been fantastic and I am thrilled that the music is being heard again. Kudos to the band and especially to Arnel. His story is amazing.
You can't really compare anything to the original classics. Steve Perry will always be Steve Perry, and no matter who sings it, this song will ALWAYS be the Steve Perry Journey age song. That being said, Arnel does an absolutely fantastic job singing.
Thanks DaDailyBread for posting this video. SP had his time with Journey and most certainly still have up to this time alot of fans. But we need to bear in mind that it's no longer possible for him to rejoin the group. And now that they have AP as their front man, he's also good and have his own followers, so can't we just leave it to that and enjoy their songs???
Just watched the documentary "Don't Stop Believin': Everyman's Journey" and I really like Arnel. He's a solid singer and down to Earth person. He does not have Steve Perry's voice; not even close to being as strong and dominant. I knew this when I saw them play Good Morning America. You can also see it when he sings "a cappella" with his family and friends in the documentary. You can tell that Arnel is good, but his voice cracks often, signs that he was trying to sing just like Perry, but at the end of the documentary he changes. He starts to take control. He finally realizes that he needs to make the songs his own. With Johnathan and Neal along with the rest of the band, they boost Arnel up trying to bring him to a new level he has never experienced. They are playing all the right cards at the right time and they are succeeding by bringing in new fans and sales. Overall I like Arnel and he helps the band more forward but trying to compare him to Perry is like comparing an Apple to a Droid. Perry's voice was called "The Voice" by Bon Jovi and others of high stature in the industry. Arnel unfortunately will never have that sort of recognition by his peers.

Why is there always haters and can't appreciate what he hears? You won't believe if I tell you that there are better singers in the Philippines, yeah as good and better than Arnel and he was given the break.. I thank Journey for that, they got a solid guy from the music pool in the Philippines. Yeah haters go to your corner and start pouting, You still have to hear the rest of the Filipino singers. hahaha

Steve P had gone long long long before. The show must go on without Steve. this s a classic rejuvination and excited about this new journey in which I am proud to share this to my grandchildren. It s ridiculous to say that no more journey bcoz no more SP. AR is the best journey sounds that journey could get. The show must go on! Can't wait their tour in the UK.
