@@lemmyelk Idk. Look at the OG Justice League cartoon roster or the Teen Titans. They were all pretty diverse and worked well but now it feels like there is 0 to no effort.
Well, the Wyll's arc is ruined by sensitivity reading, that's why he's such a boring character fighting for all good against all bad. But if you check his personality and dialogues in the Early Access version...
@@okpoiiika_b_kopblte_ctaca7084 I actually like Wyll's character. He stands out because he's incorruptible and willing to sacrifice everything for the sake of good. But I also get why that can be considered boring. The EA version makes him a more interesting character, but the thing is, the good vs evil conflict arc is already done with Shadowheart and Astarion. Wyll's final story is more about how much more can he sacrifice before he breaks, or can we help him overcome his dilemma and defeat the devil? It's more unique in the way that it's not another good vs evil conflict in the same game. Different characters are unique, and Larian did an amazing job with the creation of each companion because he have to peel the layers and shape them. What DA and other DEI garbage loves to do is make characters declare their diversity like it's the only thing worth noting about their personality. I don't know if that was Larian's intent, but that's how I viewed Wyll's arc. I kind of wish there was more to do though.
Anita Sarkeesian, Zoe Quinn, and Brianna Wu in the 2010s. Kim Belair, Alyssa Mercante, and Chris Kindred in the 2020s. Wokeness... Wokeness never changes.
Who do you think are the worst bunch of insufferable feminists? The original Trio of Counts (remove the o from count), or their successors the Wailing Woke Whales? I personally think that Sarkeesian is worse that Belair, Mercante is just as bad as Quinn, and Kindred beats out Wu.
Considering that most of BioWare's "new staff" is mostly the mythical "modern audience" I have no idea why wasting money on a consultant if your entire team is "diverse", I suppose they love to burn money or don't work at all and have coffee breaks and mental health day off's.
How many times do I have to teach you this lesson? Your thesis incorrectly states the modern audience is "mythical" but also states it exists because that's who staffs Bioware. You're a muppet looking for easy internet clout with your "hurr durr modern auduence don't exist". Its a cultivation project. We've been over this.
It's what the culture has started to revolve around though. People that hold those kinds of socio-political beliefs have been trained to 'defer to experts' on things rather than think for themselves about the correct way to do things. It's not enough that they hold the right values because those values require that they defer to the judgement of others, people whose voices matter more on the issues at hand. There's also an increasingly incestuous in-group forming in the industry around those belief systems so there's an aspect of it that puts a moral onus on people to 'stick together', so to speak.
The fact DEI is forced and their ideology about it is forced should be a serious red flag. Full stop. Anything "forced" upon the player or gaming community is just wrong.
"We consultants didn't do this, the devs did this willingly, we just looked over it and fine tuned it!" So what she is saying is that they took existing dev ideas and made them even worse by enhancing them? Amazing that this isn't seen as even more damning.
Re gaming consultants: "No insult intended - you're a fraud, your profession is a swindle, and your livelihood is dependent on the gullibility of stupid people." -Sheldon Cooper
Who care what she has to say? She's the problem. ... These clowns have been saying they don't care what we have to say for decades. Well, let's see how this ends.
Weird that every single game DEI is involved in turns out to be shit, even older games like destiny 2, Rainbow6Siege and others which got released years ago yet you can feel the influence of these weirdos on them and they are losing players and the content is getting worst every year after year
I remember spending HOURS on Dragon Age: Origins back in the day as it was one of my favorite RPG's out there and was looking forward to Dreadwolf after beating Inquisition. Only to be disappointed when I kept hearing the constant delays of it for the change of staff, multiple directors coming and going, the "we want to update it for the modern audience" or "taking the franchise to a different direction". I decided to give benefit of the doubt, that was until I saw the trailer for what is now "Dragon Age: Veilguard" and was like "The game was in development for years and this is what we are getting?!" After that trailer, I decided to not order the game, especially after the developers kept saying the game is for "the modern audience" and attacking the OG fans if they don't like the trailer then don't buy the game.
Natural diversity is perfectly fine since it adds to the worlds and stories, but when you force it like how these DEI activists are doing, the outcome is an epic failure every time!
It's up to 69k. It's definitely not going to do as well as they hoped, but it's not doing as badly as it should. It'll be interesting to see how badly the player count falls off after all the streamers are done getting their content in a couple days.
How much did it cost to be made? 100mil? Well... even 70k players peak are WAY TOO LITTLE for a tripleA product from a well known devoper and publisher, with countless promotion material and an IP that was respected by gaming community up until now. The fans were waiting a decade for a new release. 70k is definitely a failure.
Weird, on your other Veilguard video my personal ability was disabled to comment. I was thinking "What did I do to Vara?". In reality, my phones probably just a pos.
Also, I find it curious how they constantly talk about inclusion. I’m a strait white male and, being part of the group that has made every subsequent DA title possible(among many other games as well) I don’t feel included at all. I have not encountered any white males yet in DA:GayGuard. (Solas doesn’t count) That’s not very inclusive considering we are probably like 75% of the audience. Other than Varric it’s nothing but women. Hell, Varric isn’t even “white” anymore. They’ve turned him Persian. It’s so obvious that they’ve decided to minimize certain groups(or rather A group) and focus on groups that are much less likely to ever touch this game. Painfully obvious. It’s all so inauthentic.
"In this unrelentingly grim, morally ambiguous world of suffering, death and hatred..." "...everyone is really accepting and embracing of people's sexual identities!"
Bingo. They're the main source of income/revenue for games unfortunately and by looking at the top 10 or so games on PSN, they have absolutely garbage tastes in games. COD, Fortnite (whatever at least it's an actual game), 2 iterations of sports crap🙄, and then finally Vileguard🤮.
Forced DEI is hardly a conspiracy theory when companies have quotas to meet, policies in place and advertise the fact on their official websites. They keep telling us that consultancy companies don't do what we think they're doing, and yet not a single one has been forthcoming about what EXACTLY they do. I think they think it's all self-explanatory, but it's not! Either they have influence over projects, or they're grossly overpaid for doing practically nothing. Either way, they're not making themselves look good.
Well, she may be right about developers adding DEI by their own, especially studios located in Canada, California and Scandinavian countries. And also I think producers, marketologists and managers force them to add it
I'm seriously debating joining online streaming to fight against this woke push into gaming, god this stuff is just mind boggling how stupid it all is being forced and then lied about with the big companies and the reviews.
0:58 do they ever go on to explain what they actually DO? if they "don't do what we think", then what DO they do? why are they picked up as "consultants", what are they "consulting" on if it's not the game? specifically, the topics that they themselves claim to want more of in gaming... that was their ENTIRE goal, so why do they exist if they "don't do that"?
Gaming used to be civilised and not In school yet as soon as these people come about, We start seeing words being used that might as well be apart of one's school life... The game was originally called Dreadwolf... Then was called veilguard at some point...
The remaining old BioWare devs called it Dreadwolf and had more or less a story map for it. Then they left and the newcomers who took over named it Veilguard. I'm going to guess there was a stalemate among the old devs. Those who want to continue in the vein of dark fantasy, following established lore and those (including upper management) who think the "new trend" is better and will bring better sales. Development dragged over the tussle and then there was news it was remapped again. The old devs decided it's not their cup of tea and resigned, moving on to form their own company and making a new game of their own. The newcomers are of course happy with their toy because it comes with a well known brand and there's no one to stop them from imprinting their rubbish on it.
One thing to consider with the DEI stuff. Who are they really targeting with it? Well, the younger audience, or new age audience. When you think about this, that would be the kids, ages 8-15, who play these games. You know, the players that are seldom, if ever, mentioned in the statistics. With all the pushback game companies are getting for DEI stuff, the players are actually trying to protect the younger gamers from it. For this, the players deserve a massive, Kudos! And keep up the good work.
You have gained my trust in reporting on the video game industry. Everyone that follows any kind of video game news needs to know who you are! Distilling the negative effects of DIE is currently the rage on youtube but you are an absolute natural at this. Keep on soldiering on
If you go back and listen to developers talking about classic games from 10 to 20 years ago compared to modern interviews you will notice an extremely stark contrast. Passion and excitement has decayed into diversity and inclusion. Games being made by people with a love for the art has been gradually replaced with games being made by people with a love for the profit. In a way that is somewhat reassuring as that is what will put an end to the DEI race to the bottom.
Good news - triple A gaming will inevitably crash because of the activists. Bad news - we need a similar crash for games journalists, but that likely won’t happen. Rage bait makes them too much money.
Someone should explain to companies placing ads how hate-watching and hate-reading these journalists' "articles" doesn't make potential customers want, or even consider, to buy their products...
Vara, the character in Monster Hunter Wilds is giving the player non-binary character now to appeal the modern audience.... please talk about this issue so Capcom will learn.
To be honest, if there are Consulting Companies being hired on the market, that means that there is demand for them. So, in the end, Game Companies are responsible for hiring them. I don't think these Consulting Companies are necessary for game development, unfortunately Video Game Companies don't think the same.
"Consultants don't force diversity they just get hired when companies already decided to force diversity." Oh so consultants being hired means forced diversity and we should boycott anything their involved with, just a different road to the same place.
She forgets that many of the YTers are also passionate gamers and fans (or at least serve the needs of gamers and fans by taking on their perspective), and as consumers, we don't need to know or care "how the industry actually works." We just need to see the end product and evaluate it on our own terms, which we are fully entitled to. As devs, you are supposed to deliver a product that consumers want, not tell the consumer what they SHOULD want. Of course it's understandable for people to insert their own agendas into their creative work, but the least you could do is be smart or subtle about it--nobody appreciates lectures and stuff being shoved down our throats. Heavy-handedness is bad writing, no matter what.
fine tuning craft the narratives of the DEI ideology and its agenda blackrock In a thread on X, Kent wrote, “Hello, game consultant here: The idea that consultants are forcing diversity into games is ridiculous, because 99% of the time the devs have already decided they want their game to be inclusive, and just want help fine-tuning how certain stories come across. This just comes down to bad writing. The simpletons who, ironically, lack creativity and authenticity are the ones that fill the jobs that used to at least warrant a modicum of imagination, skill, and the desire to give the consumer what they want.
"Sweet baby and friends don't do what you think they do!" Let me see:Every single game they worked on do not do well! They may have the same controls and game play as the ones that came before, but their characters and stories all suck! They are fanfiction!😠
I'm a part of the HBTQ "community".. And i don't really care if there's "representation" in regards of characters, potential romanceable npcs, character creations or whatever. Just make a good game with good storytelling, good battle/gun mechanics, good graphics and the lot. If there's HBTQ characters there organically, that's all fine and dandy. Just don't make it the main spotlight! Don't force it! It's not really that hard, like.. come on. Don't attack us gamers when pointing out flaws.
Why do you bother complaining about the game when you bought it and are playing it anyway? You can talk all you want about how awful it is. But if you buy it and play it, then YOU are also part of the problem. The rest of us that are not buying it are the solution. Stop being part of the problem and the DEI BS will stop.
No ish, of course they have decided they were going for eag money, isnt hiring consultants part of the requirement for getting that money. I still hate the consultant who was brought in to fire people.
These consultants like to talk about "the industry" as if they actually develop games... I would like to know if they actually contribute to the nuts and bolts of development.. as in do they model? Do they actually create levels and environments? It seems to me that their "job" consists of nothing more than standing over the shoulder of someone who actually does these things to be a backseat driver. What DO you actually do?
All the cringe scenes that are in the game need to be made available for context. Without them to support, the connection is difficult to make. I just watched the cut scenes and all I .... just ... wow ... wtf and "why is this shit in my escapism" is what anybody buying this should be saying. Like others have said before, these are corporate DEI training lessons and a "coming out" story injected into video game entertainment. 😮💨Save yourself the time and watch something light hearted like Too Wong Foo or The Birdcage
I agree with just about everything you say and your stances on things. Unfortunately though it seems as if this game is going to sell rather well. It’s currently the best selling game on steam and is only growing.
If its anything like Outlaws, selling well will not help it. Because disappointed players will start dropping negative reviews, causing other players to to take pause.
Nowhere near the top revenues on Steam, however...not even in the top 25. 'Top seller' does not mean 'all time top sellers', it means it's the best-selling game...TODAY.
Great video. Once i saw she is/was at Euro Gamer i immediately went..of course she would say / do that. Pile europ gamer in with ign USA* kotaku..and pc gamer..
If you liked origins and inquisition you'll like this game it expands all and explains some of the myth and gods finally gameplay is light years better than Inquisition.... If woke and gay shit keeps you from playing great games like this and baldurs gate 3 welp sucks you can be influenced like that😂😂
People adore bg3… bg3 is a perfect example of diversity not being forced while being present. Meanwhile dragon age is very clearly trying to really force that diversity and ensure the player is aware of how diverse the game is..
@@TheHollowBlade bro Gale came at me when I was just being cool with him had to explain we friends...don't even get me started on shirtless emperor talk about forced 😂😂 stop listening to the anti woke they're just as bad as the woke now they both getting paid for content... Been playing the game all day I think it's a mix of 2 games mass effect and god of war with dragon age lore.... Game is going to be game of the year if not I'll be surprised (I think I already said something similar in another video lol)
