Joy Division performing 24 hours for BBC's John Peel
UPLOADER STATEMENT: 6/9/12
Apologies if any adverts appear before this video. I was notified today by RU-vid that due to a possible licensing/copyright issue, they will be placing adverts on this page.
I have declined numerous oppurtunities to enter into youtube's ad program (whereby I would receieve money per hit), and I have declined this for two reasons.
1) I believe the adverts are disruptive and counter to an enjoyable experience on youtube
2) I do not believe I should be reciving any financial recompense for uploading material that may be licensed or copyrighted.
There are many others on youtube who post up music and then get a cut from youtube because they've agreed to have disruptive, silly and nonsensical adverts appear before a video.
As far as I am aware, I was the first to upload these recordings onto youtube. I did this because I enjoy the music and I expected many others to enjoy it as well.
Cheers

incredible that a bunch of lads in their early 20's could create something so intellectually deep, truly amazing

Including New Order they are the greatest band of all time for me.
@IncredulousMisanthrope
@IncredulousMisanthrope 5 лет назад
@@s1050 New order were quite honestly.....mediocre...never got the hang of their style. I think that they deteriorated after joy division fell apart. Surely their songs "Blue Monday" and "Crystal" were quite nice, but those were the only two memorable highlights of that band. It saddens me that such a band overshadowed the better bands of the time. Bands like "Cassandra Complex", "Danse Society" and "Ski Patrol" were far better than New Order. Again that's just my opinion mate.....

To think, Curtis committed suicide in 1980 aged 23. How big could Joy Division have been?
@darraghchapman
@darraghchapman 3 года назад
@@WHU63 ...and how shit he would have felt. Don't get me wrong, I don't think suicide is ever the answer, but him feeling how he felt, and then having that huge looming tour on the horizon with all the stuff that comes with it. Nah. I can't speak for how he felt, how he would react to fame, or 'prescribe' him some way out of the the hole he was in, but digging himself out was beyond him, and is most surely beyond us spectators.

It definitely has a very dark urgent quality to it. Another song that's similar is Leif Ericson by Interpol.

[Verse 1] So this is permanence, love's shattered pride What once was innocence, turned on its side A cloud hangs over me, marks every move Deep in the memory, of what once was love [Verse 2] Oh how I realised how I wanted time Put into perspective, tried so hard to find Just for one moment, thought I'd found my way Destiny unfolded, I watched it slip away [Verse 3] Excessive flash points, beyond all reach Solitary demands for all I'd like to keep Let's take a ride out, see what we can find A valueless collection of hopes and past desires [Verse 4] I never realised the lengths I'd have to go All the darkest corners of a sense I didn't know Just for one moment, I heard somebody call Looked beyond the day in hand, there's nothing there at all [Verse 5] Now that I've realised how it's all gone wrong Gotta find some therapy, this treatment takes too long Deep in the heart of where sympathy held sway Gotta find my destiny, before it gets too late

When I want entertainment I listen to all sorts of different music, but when I want something real, something I can't explain, something that shakes the living daylights out of me, then only Joy Division will do. I often wonder will there ever be another band like them. In all my years listening to pop/rock music I haven't heard one yet, but I'll know it the moment I do, if it ever happens. Can't tell you HOW I'll know, but that's the point, it can't be explained.

you're welcome. the beginning of the first song of that album blows me away everytime i hear it, and i've heard it a lot! the sound of the bass, the hi-hat, o my goodness, pure energy/emotion/ecstacy. the whole album is bliss."if you enjoy it only half as much as i do, you're still in for ahelluva trip.

I listen to almost every genre of music and have gotten chills from certain hip hop siongs in the past as well. I am defending hip hop as an artistic stand point from the guywho said all of it is garbage. I get chills from some pac, Big, Nas, Damian Marley and many others. But none of these have a deep subject matter and timeless lyrical content as Joy Division by some miracle managed to capture.

I love the way this song builds, then ebbs, then builds again. It's like watching a sea wall in a storm, with each massive wave crashing against the stone and then the sea momentarily retreating. My favourite song of all time. (At least the album version is. This version is good, but Ian's key changes towards the end sound a little off to me.)

I always wished Factory had separated 24 Hrs and Heart and Soul ie put on different sides on the album because the two are epic songs and before you get your nerves in order after Heart and Soul on came this gut wrenching track. Drained of emotions after 2 songs before the Eternal.

i think of the eternal as the comedown. the defeat. you feel the intensity of heart and soul, and then you get that rush of desperation from this track. Then you collapse in despair at the forfeit of the eternal, only to relish in the solemn beauty of decades to close off the album. track listing works fine for my ears.

"maybe I just dont like rap" REALLY. I do not think you are qualified to pass judgement since you obviously cannot read. I said "aside from the few who do it well." There are creators in the hip hop genre who take us to the next level( but if you ask them where their samples and creative influences came from i am willing to bet it was not another hip hop artist but instead from inovators like Grand Master Flash and Marvin Gaye.) there are def awesome creators in hip hop.. like Rza, Dre, Jerkins.
