Thanks for this video. We are looking at this model and a few other similar models from different companies so happy to have found this. It looks almost exactly like the BougeRV.
Have you decided on one yet? We have a sailboat with a fridge but no freezer. Just looking to be able to make ice to start with. Size and wattage biggest concern with a solar setup. Looking at the BougeRV, ICECO and Joytutus. Seems like the ICECO might be the most efficent but also cost the most.
Great informative video. Thank you very much. I have not purchased a refrigerator as of yet. I am extremely limited on space. I'm going either with the one you have or the output cool 12 which is much smaller. Due to lung cancer I've had to downsize everything in life to something I can afford. I bought a new 2020 Chevy Spark I totally unbolted and remove the back seats. I put my Kodiak tent and other gear in there and I need to put the refrigerator on the floorboard in front of the front seat. Hopefully the alpicool 12 which is smaller will fit. But all your ideas certainly helped me out. Thank you.
thx for the share. have a great day. PS i did'nt even think about a motorcycle on the back of my Van. I have a factory tow package. 3600 LBS. Drive safe
Good to see a review of one of these with time on it since reliability issues are the main question re brand/cost type. Thanks for the suggestion of the extended warranty. I never do that, but this would be the purchase that makes the exception. BIG thanks for information on the capacity of your power supply. You answered in 30 seconds every question I had about power supply upgrades. None needed. Any fridge is cheaper if I can already run it with out spending to upgrade.
So it doesn't have a rechargeable battery? It has to be plugged in all the time ? If you were using it at home and decided to drive few 100 miles away from home with food inside the fridge? How many hours the food will stay cold til you have to plug it back again? Thank you
No rechargeable battery. Runs off shore power or 12v. As far as using it like a cooler with no electric, I’d think if it was cold, the car temp was cold, and you kept it shut the food would stay cold. If you are driving I’d just plug it into the 12v outlet in your vehicle.
Thank you! No I have not tried. I’ve always ran it off my battery and solar or plugged into the 12V outlet of my Element while traveling. Thats not to say you couldn’t use a Jackery or a similar power station. The power consumption is low for the amps it pulls so it could be possible. My routine was this. If I had good days of sun my system of a 75 amp hour battery and a 100 watt Renogy panel never failed to run it at 32 degrees all day and night. Now given how small my system is, as far as battery storage and panel size, a few days of clouds would definitely put a strain on it. That’s when I’d plug the fridge into my 12V outlet and go run errands and give my battery a change to charge up completely without the fridge. Run it on battery power at night repeat if the next day is cloudy. Also factor in where you are camping I was in cooler very dry climates. So it barely cycled on and off through the day and night. Hope that helps and thanks again for commenting on and watching my video! Good Luck!
Mine lasted 3 years and died. I used it lightly, but got some decent use out of it. Worked great, but keep expectations in check for how long it will last. I decided to buy another, because ultimately an expensive fridge is likely going to fail after what 5 years?
Good to have your feedback. I bought the same fridge in Sept. and have been very happy with it. I mostly run it off my Jackery 300 and it will last 42 1/2 hours. I'm on the move so don't have any issues recharging as I drive. Like you I put some foam around the inside and it really stays cool longer that way.
Thanks for the review. There has been numerous reviews on these 12v frigs and seems like they are getting to be pretty good. What would nice to see nowadays is how much amps these frigs are pulling. What would be nice to see is for the frigs to running 24hrs at 32 degrees and the frig at room temp. It would be great to see everyone at an agreed upon set standards and that would seem to me to be a good standard to go by. Then we can see what each frig is pulling amp-wise and obviously one with less amps is working better, and obviously we would also have to consider the size of the frig when we are looking at the amps draw.
I ran it on 100 watts of solar with a 75 amp hour battery 24/7 at about 34 degrees. This particular fridge pulls very little in terms of amps. My battery, even in partial sun , was always topped off. Only issue I had and it had nothing to do with the fridge was only running a small battery and multiple days of very little sun. With my setup that was my drawback. I was running a MPPT controller so it definitely was worth that upgrade. Thanks for watching and commenting! 👍
👍👍👍👍 sorry to ask, i probably got a used joytutus 9 liters freezer buy do it really freeze till -20°C, -4°F, as Joytutus says with external temperature of 25°C, 77°F? i've been only to see 6.8°F inside my Joytutus 9L Fridge/Freezer after 24 hours. Thank you and thanks for sharing.
Never made any sense why they make a black cover for something you’re trying to keep cool. When dark colors attract sun/heat. Light tan would make so much more sense. Would show less dirt, witch most things in nature are closer to in color. Thanks for the review :)
I ran a Renogy 100 watt with a 75 amp hour battery and a Victron charge controller. With this setup I only used it to run my fridge. Any other electric needs I used a battery backup that had its own foldable solar panel.
4:30 i'm testing that reflectix idea with a similar 12v freezer. Also trying to bag veggies in neopreme on top to see if possible to store them without frozen tomatoes and leafy greens.
Just got one, the cords are inside of the fridge/freezer so I can’t turn it on or anything. BUT the only handle to open it dosnt open it. How do I open it if the handle dosnt work? It moves but dosnt open it. Any ideas what to do?
Well are you talking about just plugging it in while you are driving or park and idle? You definitely wouldn’t want to leave it plug in, that could kill your battery. Now if you are camping in a cooler area and don’t open it much, it will be fine to run it plugged into your vehicle and park you rig. This only works in cool to cold environments not summer. In summer your inside vehicle temps just would be too much.
Iam curious about temp holding...I have my 22L Joy Tutus at 43 degrees and the temp varies by +3 -3 degrees in eco mode. Does that seem normal ? Not having experience with these, I thought I'd ask. Thanks for a great review
I think plus or minus that degree would be well within the specs of the operation of the fridge. There are lots of outside elements that will affect the temp. How hot is the area where you keep the fridge? Also, how well do you have the fridge insulated? How many times are you opening it in a given time period? You can add as much insulation as you want around it just keep in mind to keep the vents clear so the compressor can vent as needed. I’m currently running tests on another fridge where I have no insulation around it and it’s in a place where the temps average 100 degrees in the daytime.
I just bought one of these. I was a little apprehensive about buying a you know chinese fridge. I mean joy tutus, that's beyond weird. But what isn't made in china anymore. Thanks for your honest review I feel a lot better about it now.
Yeah totally goofy name. Keep those exhaust vents clear on the 3 sides and you will be golden. I have many hours of real life usage with this fridge and as the review said, it’s been great! Been to many climates and about 25,000 travel miles running non stop. Now could you get a turd? Absolutely....that’s why I recommend buying on Amazon and getting that extended warranty coverage!
If I recall when I plugged into shore power and used my Killawatt Meter it was about 45 watts and I can’t recall what it was when the compressor cycled. The amps and watts were low for power consumption of the fridge so my setup worked fine. I never had a Jackery so I can’t speak of running anything off that. Thanks for watching!
Thank you for the video. This company should be sending you a full refund with a thank you note for a perfect review. They will send units to people to review the item and that is exactly what they do. But they will leave me with more questions than answers, so I would move on to another brand. The details on what I can connected to and more is so important to mention and that is what you did. Thanks!
