Multi-Grammy Award-winning mezzo-soprano Joyce DiDonato returns with her annual series of master classes for young, rising opera singers. This impactful program combines highly personalized private instruction with public master classes, providing students with a one-of-a-kind training and performance opportunity-and audiences with an excellent opportunity to experience a new generation of singers at Carnegie Hall. Hear what these exceptional artists are capable of under the leadership of “a model of singing in which all components of the art form-technique, sound, color nuance, diction-come together in service to expression and eloquence” (The New York Times).

Joyce's advice to Marissa reminds me of something I once heard Leontyne Price say in an interview about how to do this work, you need to learn to love your voice. Not in a conceited or arrogant way, but so that you can appreciate what a great gift it is, and in turn give that gift to the audience through your performance, which is how they will receive it.

Oh my God, that masterclass was THE BEST masterclass I have ever seen her teach! She is amazing, and pays forward in amazing ways! Will watch over and over! Wow!

Joyce DiDonato is so right on. Amazing perception and tuning in accurately, and super kind at the same time. Thank you for this!

Absolutely fantastic, the work and all the original ideas springing out about the different intentions possible in the Leporello aria are mind-blowing!

I'm not a singer or musician of any kind, but I sure hope i get to meet Joyce DiDonato one day. On top of being absolutely stellar at her craft, she seems like such a cool, down to earth person. I love the way she communicates too, she could get up on a stage and speak Simlish for 2 hours and i'd still listen lol.

Wow, what she said to Marissa makes me want to go back in time about 30 years.

Sería muy bueno que estas excelentes clases magistrales tuvieran la opción del subtitulado al español.

It won't do any good, but ethically I need to tell everyone to RUN as far as you can get from any teaching of this woman. Listen to her sing, look at the condition of her voice over a few years. RUN!

I feel bad for the so-called baritone or bass. His speaking voice is pretty light enough for him to be a spinto tenor

And a prestigious hall like Carnegie Hall would (repeatedly) hire such a 'bad teacher' for their masterclasses?
@vangogh66110

@@willemboone7912 Literally the reason why I'm scared of studying music in conservatories knowing we would have these type of shitty teachers any music school outside my country

@@willemboone7912 You have an immature idea of ability and career. Having a great career, which she had, does not NECESSARILY mean she was a good singer; and being a good singer certainly, certainly does not mean one is a good teacher. Absolutely, Carnegie Hall, any place of prestige, would hire a "bad" teacher. Of course they would! Think, now. Carnegie Hall and managers do not believe she IS a terrible teacher. I didn't say she was a dreadful person. She doesn't understand science of the voice, which is one reason why she sang so poorly. I don't know your background so I can't know why you assume one by way of the other. Are you in your 20s?
