What I love about this, aside from the performance itself, is that she seems to be having so much fun singing this - as if it were completely effortless.
is that that is the temperament of the character, Rossina. just like that. apparently we see that the singers do not reinforce themselves, but all that effort is hidden by them and they only project the character.
When I started reading the comments saying stuff about perfection I thought it was too much, but after listening to the whole thing I can confirm, this is perfect indeed
She really makes the aria her own. I love the way she colours the verses with her voices. I am especially reminded of the way Callas sings 'ma'! Clearly, a true artist!
Wow I am now a big fan. That was stupendous. Such clarity in the words. And amazing artistry in how the role was portrayed. Sung with conviction and playfulness. Amazing!!!
Depends upon the programmed singer off course. Any organisatiin should deliver equal quality (though not necessairilly in the same song.... 7nless the orchestre has problems...).
Eccelsa! Straordinaria! Divina! Brillante! 🙏💖😘🥇🥇💎💎
Joyce, my beloved, my everything, reason for my endless pleasure and hapiness....you came to this world just to make people getting into tears...do you know you do this to people, my darling?? how can you do this every time I hear you singing, Joyce, why do you do this to me? why???????
Grande interpretazione ...questa artista riesce ad avere il perfetto controllo della sua voce da contralto rendendo questo pezzo semplicemente sublime ...grande grande..
You know, people are talking about her interpretation. But what's more important and more amazing about this performance is the ornaments she chose. When many singers choose to ornament pieces like this, it becomes all about showing off. While DiDonato is definitely doing showing off, all of her ornaments make sense musically. They are embedded into the music, instead of just being laid on top of it. And the sheer amount of ornaments which are embedded make this an extraordinary feat, as well as DiDonato's own masterful musical phrasing which keeps those ornaments threaded through. Given that she says that this was a rush performance, it makes her feat all that more amazing.
I noticed tributes to, or parodies of, Bartoli and Callas.Teresa Berganza nailed it too, Best of all the dance-like gestural nod to the fact this is a feisty Spanish lady letting everyone know don’t mess with me. A prodigiously accomplished performance, even if she mugs and forces the vocal line a little too emphatically at the beginning. But this is a concert performance and she would know better than to do that on an operatic stage. She takes intelligent risks and is clearly having a ball, hamming it up for the audience.
Brava Joyce! grazie
Wow! Her speaking voice is very clear. I would have mistaken her for a soprano, if I had never read that she is actually a mezzo. Great singer and great voice! Congratulations! 😊😊😊
If I can choose netrebko or Didonato, I would choose Didonato. She has such power in her voice, and doesn't need to push her voice too far, compared to Netrebko who is in the process of destroying her voice
Andros Skywalker Yes, that is what I mean. Ms DiDonato is excellent singer. Ms Netrebko is rather a result of successful marketing while singing is rather mediocre.
+Sylvia Maisonet Isn't it just the mezzo-soprano-key she's always singing in? I think so. I don't like the soprano key and I also don't like the soprano-version. It's so stuffed with coloraturas and embellishments that don't fit Rosina's character and are just made to show off the voice, which shouldn't be the focus of this aria.
OK, so I watched this performance many, many times. And yes, Joyce is absolutely breathtaking. Actually, it's her power of character that kept me from noticing the creepy af lady sitting directly behind her (to her right). Can someone explain what she is doing? She is just sitting there, staring. Is she a part of the audience, and is sitting with the orchestra for some reason? Is she playing an instrument I can't see? Is it not necessary for her to move in order to play? WHAT IS GOING ON. And yes, I realize this is a minor thing in a beautiful, immaculate performance. BUT I NEED TO KNOW. If anyone could explain, I would be most grateful.
I am a fan of the famous Callas recording, this equals, excels and fails against that benchmark that I call it a even draw. They both bring out the girlishness and determination so well. The one thing these two singers have in common is revelling in the lower register in this aria, and there’s plenty of opportunities. The flash too notes are too easy an opportunity to show off. It’s down in the darker chest area they both show their virtuosity.
