If you're new to effects for bass guitar, the idea might be overwhelming! My goal is to ease you into it with a series of videos highlighting some of the tips and tricks I've learned over the years, and to offer my honest opinions of the gear I review.
In this episode, I'll tell you about the Noise Gate from Joyo. It's a must-have pedal if you use high gain signal chains or if you have pedals that aren't very quiet.
Joyo offers some really capable effects pedals for a fraction of the prices you'll see on big-name effects!
I have an endorsement deal through Joyo, so take what I say with a grain of salt. I don't expect anyone to trust me right out of the gate, but I assure you I'm willing to point out anything I see as an issue, even with products I endorse. For their price point, there's not much to complain about though!

Joyo also offers a mini pedal line, called the Ironman series, which I will be featuring in upcoming videos! These are more compact and take up much less room on your pedal board, which is a big deal for a lot of people working with limited real estate:

In light of this being Episode 003, and Star Wars Episode III being my favorite of the film franchise, I wanted to rock a Star Wars themed shirt. Thanks for the info sad too see the bottom comment is giving you shit for not being hyper or playing djent riffs, but my question is it worth it I know joyo is have some cheap pedal but how's the quality on this pedal, and also what kind of basses are do you own they look pretty clean, keep it up!

The commenter wasn't giving the video author shit for not being hyper or for not playing Djent solos. The commenter was giving him shit, because the commenter was a clueless idiot, who didn't know the difference between electronic noise and the string overtones caused by his crappy playing style. He believes that any video content, that doesn't apply specifically to his limited understanding of guitar playing basics, is useless information that nobody wants to hear. He forgot about the hundreds of thousands of guitarists, who understand the simple concept that electronic instruments often have unwanted electronic noises, which can be eliminated or improved with the use of electronic hardware and software. Those guys are interested in this video. If he actually listened to the first 40 seconds of the video, he would have quickly realized that this video has nothing to do with sustained overtones caused by his shitty playing. The author was talking about noisy equipment during the first 30 seconds of the video. Before the 40 second mark, the author even talked about the unwanted noise, which can occur IN BETWEEN songs or IN BETWEEN parts of songs. How could anyone who was paying attention, think that this video is about anything other than equipment noise? Do they think that their guitar will magically play itself IN BETWEEN songs and create unwanted overtones by itself? "Hey, do you have any guitar pedals that will keep my bass from playing wrong notes, while I'm drinking from my water bottle IN BETWEEN songs?" The short explanation is this: Some people are stupid and they like to blame other people for their stupidity.

The pedal is solid, and it's never failed me in the years I've owned it. The basses in the background of this video are a Fender Modern Player Jazz 4 in sunburst, a Fender Modern Player Jazz 5 in satin white, a custom Allan Hamilton Jazzwick fretless 5, and a Warwick Streamer Stage II 5. Noise Gates are very useful on bass, not only for cleanup purposes but they tighten up the groove.

I appreciate the feedback. I didn't do a demo because it's pretty uneventful. Imagine there's noise coming through your speakers. Now imagine there's not. Voila! That's the noise gate. ;)

HamOnTheCob bass to mixer to amp. But I'm looking for it to help lessen "string ring", If you know what I mean.

I'm not 100% sure what you mean. Is it a string buzzing somewhere on the bass? Or a string ringing out after you've played it?

the topic itself is very interesting. i was looking for a way to mute unwanted noise for playing more accurate. one way to inform myself is youtube. your video is garbage because of the quantity of information. i clicked yours because of the search algorithm of youtube, i watched it because noone warned me it will be useless, i spend time in criticizing you because i fear you waste more of other peoples´s time who are eager to learn or your own time because the video is not worth the time you spent for it. doesn´t seem odd if you think about it, does it?

You wanted a pedal to clean up your playing (which can only be cleaned up through spending time practicing your technique - something you could be doing RIGHT NOW instead of commenting on RU-vid videos), and this pedal doesn't do that, so you're mad at me for making a video explaining how the pedal works, because it doesn't do what you want it to do. Got it!
