Joypur forest is a jungle of Sal, Palash, Kusum, Mahua, Neem and Teak. You can find deer herds crossing the forest path every time and Elephants loitering nearby. Bankura District forms a locality of the eastern Chhota Nagpur high land which is adorned by the nature with her own hands. Old brown hills, rives, many ancient temples and monuments are the stores for the culture and tradition of Bankura.
The forest is not only famous for visual pleasure, many tropical chirping birds will soothe your ears too. The main habitants of this wildlife sanctuary are Cheetal (spotted dear), wild fox, wolf and elephants. An observatory inside the forest gives the panoramic view of the entire forest. The best time to reach the observatory is the dawn the clam forest becomes noisy with every animal welcoming the sunrise to start a new day. A day long walk through the forest can be a rewarding experience but be sure to come back by 4:00 PM.
A weekend trip to this forest can be quite relaxing and soothing. Take a walk in the aerodrome that was used extensively during World War II or have a nice and casual walk.
