Cool shit! No wonder that you guys were right there at the GG when we came from the other side ;-). Great race, amazing boat!

Thanks Peter! It was a fantastic race, the uphill leg was a little wet and rough but well worth it for the downwind sailing. Did you set a kite right after rounding the islands or wait? We felt like there was a lot of North in the breeze and weren't sure setting the kite early would get us back in the bay. We went with white sails for a short time, then code 0 then A4. And that wind hole close in was painful, ouch!!! Awesome job by you guys once again! That Pogo looks like an absolute rocket downwind, you must be having a blast sailing it. By the way, we are not above pity, if your team would like to let us win one we're ok with that. :)

@@PsychoTillerSailing The uphill was indeed a little wet. I'm impressed with how well the JPK tracks upwind. We still have to figure out our full upwind performance. I think we reefed the main too early. The Pogo requires a lot of sail changes to keep her going nicely in quite some breeze. We, for example, need to switch to the staysail in ~19 knots. Otherwise, we are loosing immensely in speed and ability to steer waves. After we took a very conservative rounding of the island (furthest boat out) we hoisted in the lee of the island our Code 0 and reached under staysail all the way home. It's been a straight shot and the wind angle was perfect for it. I was shocked that no one else took that approach. We were running at 13-14-15 knots, in peaks 16+. I mean reaching is the strong foot of that boat - also yours I assume? You said the video showed your A4? - Holy Moly - that thing is huge! I was 100% convinced that this would be an A2. We let you win the Duxship Race, OK? ;-)

Definitely not the day to get too close to the stinky rocks! There were a couple boats which seemed a little closer than I'd feel comfortable with but they made it fine so who am I to say I guess. We seem to have the upwind mode down ok so far, a little trouble in light winds but it's far from an ultralight boat so not sure if it's us or just the characteristics of the boat. I'm not entirely sure just yet what the strong foot of our boat is, still getting to know each other. But she sure seemed happy reaching with the A4. In retrospect I wish we would have switched from the code O to the A4 earlier but we didn't know how well it would hold. And yeah, like you mentioned that A4 is a monster, it's a new sail and a little intimidating setting it in good breeze as we get to know each other. Going to hold you to that offer of winning the duxship! We're still undecided if we'll be doing that race however. Our initial plan is to do both the Duxship and the Midnight Moonlight race in the same day. It sounds like a lot of fun as we sit at home on the computer. After every race we start questioning our decision though. The Midnight Moonlight is an absolute blast, you guys should consider doing the SF Bay biathlon and race in that one too. Again, great job in the Farallones race!

Ah, that feeling of standing on the edge of a cliff...

That's a great way of describing it! There's that 2 second period at the top of the wave when everything seems to goe quiet and still, just before the boat surfs down the face of the wave. A GoPro camera unfortunately never quite captures the true size of waves. These were certainly not enormous ones but big enough to make things exciting. "It's not the heights that scare me, it's the ground when I'm high up that scares me." :) Thanks for watching and for the comment!

What setup did you have on your 10.80? Single blade or twin blade rudder? What kind of A sail in the video?
@PsychoTillerSailing
@PsychoTillerSailing 5 лет назад
Twin rudder, carbon fiber rig, A-sail used in the video is a North Sails A4, 140 sq meter, Airx 800N. Main and Jib are North 3di. Thanks for watching!

@@Wysiwig99 , Where do you sail out of? Are you also on a JPK? We absolutely love the boat and she seems to be generating a fair amount of interest out here. I mean, what's not to like about a fast, stiff boat that planes AND has a comfy interior for wine and cheese after the race! Leave it to the French to make sailing fast sophisticated also :)

@@PsychoTillerSailing I am sailing what you could call the junior version of your 10.80, a Seascape 24. Built in Slovenia, but with a lot of French-inspired thinking in it. A bit on the small and light-footed side. So next boat should be closer to a 10.10/10.30. Never stop dreaming...;-)

Ah yes, the Seascape 24! Haven't seen one up close but have heard only great things about them. Both the 1010 and the new 1030 look like fantastic weapons as well. We were looking at getting a 1030 built but our 1080 happened to come up for sale right in our back yard which didn't require waiting a couple years so we jumped at the chance. Also looked into importing a used 1010 from Europe but there are quite a few hoops to jump through to make that happen. Not an impossible mission but far more complex than the 1080 which happened to be right here in our back yard.
