A really nice translation of the arcade game to the 2600, very enjoyable to play. Plus it has the ability to allow you to select how many Ghost Bullies chase you :).
I remember putting your quarter/token up on the bezel to reserve your turn for a game. It worked too, even when there were quarters/tokens lined up all the way across the panel. We (arcade gamers) were a civilized bunch! Semper Fidelis my friend and Thanks for another gameplay video.
Thanks for the video. This is a great port and one of my favorite 2600 games. A few items of note... 1. I am not convinced that allowing the toy/candy to run over dots to increase their point value is a good strategy. The larger pellets slow you down, and the toy will blow up an energizer if it reaches one. Some of the best players on the arcade game employ this strategy because there is a kill screen which limits their scoring potential. There is no known kill screen on the 2600 port, so with sufficient skill, you can indefinitely earn points on the highest levels with 5000 point root beers. 2. One key difference between the 2600 version and the arcade version is the scrolling. The arcade game scrolls the maze horizontally and on the 2600, it scrolls vertically. 3. None of the games played on the video are the default game like you'd get in the arcade since they were not started on the first maze. There are 28 game variations total on the cartridge (any of the 7 mazes may be selected with 1, 2, 3, or 4 ghosts). The first board is the tricycle level. This is the default if you start a game after powering up the console without hitting the Game Select switch first. 4. This is the only Pac-Man variation I've ever played where the ghosts are faster than cornering than you. If being chased on most Pac-Man games, you can often escape by turning as many corners as possible. This strategy will work against you on the 2600 port of this game. 5. This 2600 port was developed by GCC, the same development team responsible for the arcade version of Ms. Pac-Man and Jr. Pac-Man. I believe this is one of the reasons this port turned out so great.
I never even heard of this for the Atari 2600. I need to play this ASAP since I love the arcade version! It looks like same engine as the Ms. Pac-Man version of the 2600 cart. And I loved that version as a kid!
i played the atari as a kid in the 80's. but i'm like you i didn't know this even existed for the atari 2600. i didn't even know that they made a ms pac-man as well back then as well.
I have owned this cart since 1988 and I don’t know what wizardry the programmers used to make the sound effects identical to the arcade and the amazing playability. Its a shame Namco wont reissue it because it was an unauthorized Bally Midway USA hack.
Is a good port but I am eagerly awaiting the 7800 version I ordered from AtariAge like 8 months ago. I've played the cocktail version in the arcade a few times and it is my favorite Pac game other than Baby.
Jr Pac-Man only on Atari 2600 is the biggest joke namco refuses to put it on other platforms still today I only can play it on the PC mame 32 I’ll never go back to Atari 2600 the worst console of all time if people are still buying this trash console that’s why Atari is still making it they have other Atari consoles that plays games a lot better
