JS Izumo The Pride Of Japan's Light Class Aircraft Carrier
The JS Izumo (DDH-183) is a helicopter carrier, which was later modified into a light aircraft carrier in 2022. Officially classified as a "multirole operations destroyer", JS Izumo is the lead ship in the Izumo class of the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF). The Izumo class destroyer is designed to be 248 meters long and 50 meters wide. This ship has a height of 33.5 meters and the depth of the ship in the water is 7.5 meters. When not loaded at all, the ship weighs 19,500 tons. When fully loaded, the ship weighs 27,000 tons. Izumo has a carrying capacity of up to 500 crew members with five levels of transport. Izumo is designed to be able to transport Bell-Boeing V-22 Osprey and Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II[3] and five helicopters can be operated simultaneously on Izumo's deck. The hangar can accommodate 14 helicopters. The total number of helicopters that can be transported if the sand deck is also used is 25 helicopters. The Izumo's maximum speed can reach 30 knots using a combination of gas and steam turbines as a power supply. Izumo's defensive weapons consist of SeaRam and Phalanx CIWS. The combat system is ATECS. This system has several types of radar, namely the AESA OPS-50 radar, OPS-28 radar as a surface object tracker, OPS-20 radar as a navigation radar. Izumo is also equipped with several sonar, namely the OQQ-23 sonar, NOLQ 3D-1 sonar for electronic warfare, and various other communication systems. The ship is also equipped with six torpedo launchers with the Mk 137 model. The anti-torpedo system used is the OLQ-1 system.[4] The main attack weapons are large aviation wings of the type of transport helicopters and attack helicopters.
