Very useful video. I've just started exploring JS8 Call and have not used most of the features you covered but wondered about them. Now I'll be able to use them with less fumbling through the learning process.

Just wait Pat. We were running more tests over 2M this morning. Won't say how little, but we were able to use VERY little power during the testing this morning. I think most people will be surprised. Video coming soon.

Is there a frequency that I should use in VHF-UHF? I know there is digital parts of HF, is there a Digital part of the VHF-UHF?

Ok, I have some basic, basic questions. 1.) when you use the log button does it just log the contact inside this program, or one of those automated logging programs like QRZ or LBotW, or both?

I don't play with the logging much. I do know it logs inside of JS8Call. I also think you are able to connect some FD logging software as well. Not sure about everyday logging though. 73, de KM4ACK

I connect my radio via CAT and seds a message on 7.078 but when im sending it jumps to 7077 ??

I am wondering if this would be useful for SSB CB for extending the range beyond your typical 5miles. My non ham people that would likely be in my Emergency group could possibly use this in the SHTF scenario.

It would probably extend the range at least by a bit. The bigger question is how you would interface the Pi to the radio. Not sure CB radios typically have cat control and audio ports? Also, is digital legal on 11 meters? I have never looked into it.

@@KM4ACK You don't need the above to do digital on a radio. All you need is a mic connector for the radio wired to the signalink. I have done digi modes on old radios so long as they are stable. An experiment could probably be done on local 10m to see what the range is like. WSPR seems to go pretty far on ground wave. I live about 100km from LA, and I seem to reach there without skywave propagation on 10m. That is pretty impressive.

@@kq6up The signalink will certainly work. I use a couple of them for the Yaesu 2980 radios that don't have the needed ports for digital. 10M would be a great test 🙂

Any modern HF rig will work. I personally have used the Yaesu 857, 817, 891 and Icom 705

JS8Call is pretty cool, but man it is soooo slooooow.. it takes over a minute to send a sentence? I used to use FSQCall which is much faster, can send and receive images, and has "sounding" which is similar to the heartbeat feature.. I've been monitoring 40m FSQ freq (7104mHz) but no sigs there anymore. Pretty sure people suffer through the slowness of JS8Call just so they can be part of the whole FT8 crowd.

If you are AWAY from your station, as you mentioned, and you are TX, you are in violation of FCC rules. Cannot relay, or any transmit without a control OP present. Do not send this false info to new hams. You MUST be at the station, or else disable auto until you return.

How is this any different from an APRS digipeater which hears digital packets and repeats them? Many digipeaters run 24/7 from unmanned locations.
