In this second part of our pellet test - we examine the four best pellets for the Redwolf, taking a little more time to explore what the test packs offer.
This is really just for documentation.

I too have a Daystate Redwolf (.22 caliber), but my experience with JSB pellets has been dismal. At 25 meters, five shot groups measure roughly .5 inches, center to center. At 50 meters, they spiral out of control, making it nearly impossible to hit even the large 12" diameter target consistently. I have tested a variety of pellet weights from JSB, and all of them perform poorly at distances over 25 meters. The real shock came when I tested the cheapest pellets I could find in that caliber, which were Crossman 13.4 grain hollow points, sold in a tin of 500 for just over $6.00 at Walmart. At that low a price, I wasn't expecting much, but the results were nothing short of miraculous. At 25 meters, all my 5 shot groups made one ragged hole, with the smallest group measuring 0.15" center to center. At 50 meters, my best group measured 0.37" center to center. There was a lot of wind on the range that day, so my three other 50 meter groups weren't as good, ranging in size from .75" to 1.25", center to center. Switching power levels from medium to high seemed to make no difference in accuracy at these ranges. I have no explanation as to why my Redwolf is performing so poorly with the most expensive match pellets, while doing so well with the cheapest bulk pellets. I've spoken with several people at Airguns of Arizona about this, but they tell me they've never heard anything like it before.

Blimey. This is rather strange. I would simply suggest that as long as you have found what works, then you are golden! It makes very little importance what works, as long as something does! Thanks for the kind message.

@@southwestshooters Oddly enough, I had almost the identical experience with my .177 Weihrauch HW 110. That rifle also performed very poorly with the JSB Exact 8.44 grain pellets everyone is raving about, but it did very well with the inexpensive Crossman 7.9 grain hollow points! Given that the Crossman pellets can be had for one tenth the price of the JSB's, I suppose it's a lucky thing things turned out this way, but it's a mystery I very much want to solve.

Nice one boys!! Good to see you guys having fun with the pellet testing. Next time forget flipping a coin, why not take the x2/3 pellets you can’t decide on and shoot a group of 5/10 pellets at 30, 40, 50 and even 60 yards and see how each ones does. There will quite likely be a more clear cut decision to be made. Personally, I’ve gone from 4.50 JSB exact 8.44 in my HW110K.177, to the 4.52 JSB Heavy 10.34. The reason being I get a lot more hitting power on the bunnies I’ve been tasked with bashing. I also think the Heavys (sic) group better out at 40+ yards. Anyway, it’s always good to see you guys having fun. Go well! Rich.

Rich, although we don't do what you are suggesting, exactly, in our next video. We do use a similar approach using the RM8 and some Magnums.....stay tuned!

8.44 for target & 10.34 for hunting in my hw100 nothing else comes close. Good tests lads from another devon shooter keep it up .

Nice shooting, very good consistency with your trigger pull is not easy. I have been using jsb heavy for the last year in 4.52 and have been having good results ( for me anyway ), several of my club members use them too. Last week I lent someone my tin of heavies to try in his r10 and his gun shot well with them too. Professor Ballinger often seems to have the edge out of you both, always good to watch how you both shoot.

Thank you Alan. Yes Ian is often better on camera. But have you watched the latest episode of Good Eye Sniper?

How can you test these air rifles when the table is moving about all the time interesting videos but do yourselves a favour and make a proper table to take the rest

How are you finding JSB availability at the moment. I think I might have to find a second choice manufacturer as the JSB Exact 4.52 which my Redwolf’s like are getting hard to get at the moment.

Not good. I can't get them at all. As far as I know, nobody can! Perhaps check out some qys?

@@southwestshooters I have a tin to try as I heard good reports. Maybe your next video to compare them to JSB ( which seem to be a good control for any test ) PS Heard about your channel on the Airgun Forum. Glad I did, like the content you have provided so far, keep up the good work. Only minor comment I would make, when doing tests, seeing holes appear in paper targets is pretty boring to me. I know people like to see the results build but I would rather trust you and jump to the conclusions ( though I also understand it can make the videos pretty short !)

@@paulblundell8033 you know what. That isn't a bad idea. I think some people like to see the shooting, but others don't. What would you think about some way of bookmarking the video so you can fast forward to the results rather than watch them? It would just seem a little strange not including them as it's proof of the pudding, so to speak. Any feedback is always welcome! I think it's a good idea, but if this was to happen then it might change the flavour too much?

@@southwestshooters bookmarks are a good idea ( you can just put times in the comments so we know where to go ) I personally think you guys seem very honest so I would not have any doubt the results you presented were accurate. Your content on the shooting is not over done compared to some. It’s not uncommon for someone to post a video that’s 25 minutes long with 15 minutes of it being holes being made in paper with no comments. Let’s be honest pellet testing is hard to get right. You are shooting outside so wind plays a part and one pellet can shoot great at 20 yards ( most should !) and then they quickly go off the POA as the range goes up. It’s tough having to test a bunch of pellets at different ranges. I’m lucky, one of my local ranges is indoors and has distances and targets available from 10 to 50 yards so I have no excuse not to test properly ( though I find the single shot loaders annoying after a while )

@@paulblundell8033 we do already use book marks, but I think a summary of the groups would also be useful. We will find a way of getting this in our next video. Thank you for taking the time to comment on the video. Please consider subscribing if you enjoy what we do! Take care.
