@@danielchang4671 kinda i guess, but it was still not very relevant to the joke because they weren’t doing any drugs, and it’s extremely obvious that they have in the past so its not unknown knowledge at all.
I adore Emma's ability to spin the "oh, the guest is confused and slightly weirded out by the thick water" bit and just... make THEM feel weirded out 10/10
Yeah. For every other "contestant", they were hesitant, and the crew were like "yeah, do it, do it!", but then Emma pulled out the c u m c a r d, and turned the tables on them.
Man, I work in a retirement home and they actually serve this kind of stuff to some seniors cause they just choke on regular water. Its called Dysphagia, and it makes it difficult to swallow a lot of things, and making it thicker apparently helps with that. I always thought it looked so nasty though, its interesting to see people drink it that don't have Alzheimer's and can actually express what its like
We have a regular at the cafe I work at who has to use it. I don't know what condition she has beyond dysphasia, but she has to add a powder to thicken her tea and coffee.
Same, we used to have a resident who would refuse to have it and drink all of his water out of the tap. If it’s doctors orders than legally we have to give it to them.
I’ve worked in hospital food services and brought thickened drinks to patients a lot. I tried a thickened apple juice once and it tasted fine, but the texture was just sooooo off putting.
Its getting thicker each guest. I am waiting for the 1l 20 scoop bottle they prepare and just add more on top. Wouldn't be surprised if at some point its just gello served
"You're not doing a very good job stirring these" "Oh, would you like to stir it next time?" "No, I think you'd probably throw a fit" Man DESTROYED him
Shlatt adds two scoops to CaptainSparklez' cup and said he never made it that thick before, next clip he gives Ranboo three scoops and asks how come it's so thick
@@jonblon-II They serve this kind of stuff at the retirement home I work at too. Some seniors just choke on regular water, I think its a condition called Dysphasia, which just makes it difficult to swallow anything, but I guess making things thicker helps with that somehow.
3:30 as someone who has previously worked at a Walgreens I can attest that our other products also share such a complex naming convention, such as our sleeping pills named “sleep ” and caffeine pills named “awake”
I used to work in a nursing home and we had a thing where we drank lemonade, milk, coffee and tea with it to see what it's like and I ended up throwing up and passing out after, I genuinely hated the feeling
Yall could definitely just look it up but if your wondering “why the fuck this stuff exists” my cousin has to drink his liquids with this thickener because he had a tracheotomy, aka a hole in his throat with a tube, but water is fucking disgusting with it, he uses it to drink gatorade lmao
Oh fuuuuck, I haven't seen Ethan since Unus Annus, he's definitely rocking the untrimmed look I finally placed it, he looks like Ezio back in like AC2 when he was young and got his scar, ie, a total lady-killer.
If I remember correctly, Ethan and Mark tried to make Thick water, but failed twice during Unus Annus. The first time Mark drank the corn water from a can of Del Monte Corn (and asked for a sponsorship only to get more corn), while Ethan made ooblek by mixing cornstarch into water. It made Ethan sick, but at least he tried it for science. The second time they added Xanthium gum, Jello, and a few other things to a tub of water in an attempt to have a thick water apple bob. That did not go well either as the gum turned into what looked like pieces of chewed gum and the water did not get thick enough. They then had to buy premade thick water and did a few experiments with it.
I'm supposed to mix that with my liquids on account of my diet and health problems. But my body doesnt keep it down. Even in the smallest dose. I have a whole pantry full of different kinds. I like the chocolate kind.
I worked at a hospital that gave it to patients who had trouble swallowing and tried it once to see what it was like. It really only tastes like water, but so much of what we consider “water” to be is from it’s texture, so it’s still pretty off putting. Thick apple juice is excellent though, it’s sort of syrupy and sweet.
Also depends on the thickener. Starch may have different aftertaste than gum. Personally I wouldn't drink it with just water, heck just water can have funny flavours depending from where it comes, quality of pipes, spring, types of minerals, if there are any additives or not, temperature or your personal mental image of it (placebo/imagination). But it the idea isn't different from jello and thick broths and soups. So mix it with a good juice or tea it should be good. For me personally when had tried it few times - it felt like not fully finished jello (only difference is that jello does melt). With water I wouldn't say I had much difference, but I would assume, if it isn't fully stirred, you could feel the powder (not necessarily taste it).
So CVS sells thick-it which i had due to a health reason. It has a slight chemically smell and after taste. Not bad, just slightly noticeable. Most people make it seem worse than it is though definitely
Most thickening agents taste like sh-. I prefer the ones made with tapioca powder cause it feels less powdery and tastes slightly less bad. Honestly I hate thick water, I’d say it’s always best thickening something else like apple juice or milk.
I have technically had thick water, in that something I did was when my mom made jello after being in the fridge for a while it becomes thick but still liquidy so I put it in a cup and drank it and it was good
Thick water is made with a special powder, so technically you didn’t, it’s a VERY unique drink, it’s thick in the way like glue is thick sorta, way different from half set jello
when i worked at a special needs school i had to mix thick water several times a day (the kids had to bring their own powder from home which was bullshit extra bills the parents had to muster, donate to schools for low functioning kids, everything built for them is stupidly expensive and they are underfunded) and schlat absolutely overloaded those glasses. one scoop of that size is more than enough to make someone gag and if it's too viscose it won't feel as weird, slightly thick is worse than a slough, kind of different is way worse than completely different. also try feeding that shit to someone else with a spoon and tell me how your stomach handles that
as someone who has asthma caused by reflux and aspiration, I used to never drink (I have a feeding pump that would pump electrolytes etc into me but that’s not the only reason I have it) so I would use liquid thickener so I could drink, and let me tell you, now I’ve stopped using it, if I ever had to use it again I’d most definitely throw up on the spot, it’s just not a good time
I love this bit. I work in healthcare and we have to give patients thickened liquids all the time, and part of training was to try different thickened drinks. "Drinking" a pudding-consistency V8 changes you as a person.
as someone who works in dietary at a hospital, the amount of people who ask why it exists stuns me a bit. it just seems obvious that some people have issues swallowing certain textures and could choke without thickened liquids
I don't follow him, but I genuinely can't tell if CaptainSparklez is Greek or Jewish. He has prominent features of both, and the things he's saying here make me want to say Jewish, but that could just be from my familiarity and experience. (Jews love bagels. Don't question me, I'm a Jew, so I know we love bagels)
I love how Schlatt goes “oh I’m sorry, would you like to stir it next time?” And Ted says “no you’d probably throw a fit” and just stares at him and Schlatt doesn’t say anything cause he knows Ted is right😂
I freaking love how Emma just owned the situation, and just loved messing with Shlatt and Charlie XD Also when I typed Shlatt's name it keep auto correcting to two things; "shaft", and "enlarged" and I still can get over that
