I kinda feel like JTs bands (except Emmure, maybe TTDTE) are kind of like old paintings/painters. Underappreciated in their active time but will gain wide recognition and have somewhat of a big cultural impact some time in the future. Amazing stuff. Wish GC would come back
Yeah, I get what are you talking about. For me personally he is like what Muhammed Suiçmez was for tech-death scene, but for low-tuned chugg/djent scene: Muhammed was not as popular as Chuck Shuldiner, but he equally impacted the scene. JT is the same- he can be not considered as "innovative" as guys from Meshuggah (I am not a fan) or Dino Cazares (considering himself the true innovator of 7/8 string scene, my favorite player and hates me as much as JT ahahaaha), or even not considering himself equal to Tosin Abasi, but he is- he has impacted the genre like the guys from second wave of djent, like Misha of Periphery or Justin (rest in static) from After The Burial, his impact is colossal. Of course some tell that he has just "copy pasted technique of Layne from Danza", but listen to When Knives Go Skyward (they got bandcamp now, you can buy all the discography!) and understand how innovative he was. And as annoying, as Karl from Nile about his videos)))
Well said both of you. To be honest I’ve only discovered GlassCloud back in 2017, and I was shocked to see how long ago the music actually has been around for. Same goes for TTDTDE, I was late on discovering them but there isn’t a day where they ARENT in my daily music rotation. Both bands are masters of their own rights of the craft and Joshua is a BEAST. I’ve always had eyes for the underdogs of the scene rather than big names like Meshuggah, etc. but I do enjoy me some Periphery, especially the older stuff. I’m more mad at the fact I can’t really get merch from these bands now because I truly love and appreciate their work.
The vocalist of glass cloud, Jerry.... where'd he go? His former band was also phenomenal and underrated...sky eats airplane. Doin techy mathy metal with post hardcore sections and electronic interludes before periphery. Less showboaty and bloated than periphery also.
