Version 2.0 of my original TNG intro recreation now in 4k! This video includes many fixes and improvements including animated crew members during the final flyover! All rights go to CBS/Viacom.
Very interesting. I would make a suggestion as an observation. When you pass by the bridge, perhaps show Picard standing in front of his Ready Room window as the camera is panning around just before you see the observation lounge. It might add a just a little more to it. Love how you showed Janeway, Seven and what looked like Chaykote standing by the window on your Star Trek Voyager intro.
Well done, sir! They most certainly more legitimate to the series than that shown in the Picard series. Most of all, I didn't care for the look of the bussard collectors. They looked like three swirling fans. I guess, they were trying to make them look more like the original Enterprise, but they stopped using that look in The Next Generation.
The version from Star Trek: The Motion Picture, has parts that were cut out, when the theme was made into the theme for TNG. PLEASE work your magic, on it!!!! This is truly magnificent!! It's like I'm 7 years old, in footie pajamas, watching the pilot for the first time, at Grandma's all over again! THE FEELS, THE FEELS!!!
@@ministryoflies1344 Maybe so, but the florescent tube lights they used weren't capable of that kind of discrimination. With fiber optic lighting, maybe. However, for the most part having random lights turn-on-and-off would have been impossible because of motion-control photography! The regular strobe lights worked, but not random room lights.
Yeah, I know that the tech at the time couldn't manage that consistency and detail...syncing up over multiple passes etc would have been a pain. But maybe if DS9 or Voyager get the 4k restored treatment, who knows..
@@ministryoflies1344 So far as I'm aware, the only other Classic Trek that is even _technically_ capable of being upgraded to 4K would be _ENT,_ and that's mostly because all the space stuff was already all-CGI, and Season Four was the first (and only) to be filmed digitally. If I understand correctly, the problem with upgrading _DS9_ and _VOY_ to 4K is they'd have to digitally recreate every single physical model, and they don't have access to those anymore. On top of which- if the rumors are to be believed- Paramount Global is on the verge of bankruptcy, and they're looking to sell-off _Star Trek_ to Warner Brothers (assuming Alex Klutzman and Jar Jar Abrams don't -fuck up- that too), and so they're not capable of doing another 4K release at this time.
This is honestly the most faithful, clean, and accurate CG recreation I've ever seen on RU-vid (plus for using the Season 1 theme). So much so, that this has become the definitive version of the TNG intro in my head. You are a true Star Trek fan, but above all else, an incredible artist. Top job.
@@Thermool How can you tell the difference between the themes without direct comparison? Legit question, because I can't tell the difference without listening to them side by side.
@@AdmiralKarelia Season 1 and most of season 2 as a whole used a lot of that typical 80’s electronic synthesizer that shows of the time used in their sound tracks. Now as TNG progressed, it was phased out slowly and when they came up to season 3 I believe they changed the whole opening credits including the music, which was based on TMP. Basically they de-80fied the opening credits to more closely, yet TNG like, the TMP music.
Did anyone else notice he created what the team for picard used as the opening shot of the Picard Season 3 finale with the flyover the saucer arriving at Jupiter? It's almost identical!
DUDE--This final fly over at the end of this (at least in part), my friend... was done at the end of PICARD. I just noticed this today. Well done...(again).
@@mythdusterds Since being pedantic is what Trek fans do best...allow me to be pedantic! We do get a pass over the top of the Enterprise. But it just starts from the top of the saucer section coming into view on the lower portion of the screen.
Amazing how closely that final flyover shot mirrored the Enterprise-D's approach scene to Jupiter in the Picard Season 3 finale! And this was created first.
@@AdmiralKarelia Similar, but not quite. The last shot in the TV intro, the ship comes from behind and below camera. The Jupiter shot, they warp in and the camera comes in close on the bridge and follows it around to reveal Jupiter, getting much closer to the hull than they ever could with the shooting miniature in the old days. 🤓
@@ragingsithmaster Yeah, I was trying to find an example and I couldn't, I think I'm conflating a few shots in my head. I do remember seeing this shot somewhere before though, recognizing it again in this video, before Picard S3 was even out. Maybe as an opening shot during the episode title or something, idk.
Beautiful. The Enterprise looks gorgeous. And the attention to detail-you can see the city lights on South America and all the visible parts of Earth facing away from the sun. Perfect.
She does a proper warp stretch as she leaps, into warp, and the star explosion point is far enough away she feels, like she’s going REALLY fast, I love these warp jumps, the model is great, everything syncs nicely and doesn’t leave me watching the various plates failing to interact nicely and going “uh-huh” like I used to.. great job ^_^
Thank you for keeping the Star Trek I grew up with alive. It's good to see that youtube can still provide a platform for small creators to share their hard work and art for the joy of others.
After thinking about how I can transfer the feelings I had while watching this, I can just say, that I got overwhelmed multiple times by the rendering, the visual effects of the warp-jump, the music and the overall feeling that you conveyed, which was exactly the feeling I had every time I sat down once again to watch an episode of this wonderful Series! Thank you very much for your hard work and engagement!
I always wondered what it must have been like to see this intro for the very first time to someone that grew up with the original series. To hear Kirk's words through Picard's voice, and to see the new enterprise come into view for the very first time must of sent goosebumps through every fan.
Well.... no. The general reaction from OG TOS Trekkers ranged from disinterest to outright disdain. TNG was not welcomed with open arms. It wasn't until the 3rd season when the majority of classic Trekkers came around. Prior to that, almost every aspect from ship design to their spandex uniforms were subject of ridicule. Even the Jerry Goldsmith theme was robbed from "real" Trek in many fans' eyes. Sorry, but no. No goosebumps. It was a different time. We came around & now TNG is roundly embraced.
@@Koldeman thanks for pointing that out. I find it ironic seeing people complaining about modern Trek like Picard, as they've seemingly forgotten that TNG took at least a couple of seasons to come good.
BRO! OMG THAT WAS EXQUISIT! When the enterprise fanfare started and she came into view I got that same old thrill. When we got to the panover of the bridge complex and you had picard walking LtoR in the conference room window I CHEERED! FLAWLESS!
Oh the camera panning up to the ship on Brent Spiner's credit, love that farpoint shot. Glad you found a way to combine it with the final shot from the original credits.
I Must say as an Digital image restorer and Computer engineer and al time Star Trek Fan Boy this is unreal i needed this in the 90s where were you mate you need a job at Paramount Pictures not kidding
The camera move at the end is almost exactly the same as when the Enterprise arrives at Jupiter in Picard. Someone on the VFX team definitely saw your video before they made that shot. Ha.
I like how some of the lights turned on and off. Its as though people are either done with those rooms or are about to use them or they're going to bed or waking up for their shifts.
Love the visual reference to the very first in-episode shot of the Enterprise-D from the TNG pilot combined with that super-detailed close pan from PIC S3.
It's time to release a 4k version of the full journey box set and it will be amazing to watch your favourite episodes in 4k. Yesterday's Enterprise would look awesome and even Q who! We can only wait and hope!
Well Done love the textures added to the surface, with lights and emergency escape pods its also nice how you changed the angle of the first pass it hides the bottom starfleet logo.
I've always thought yesterday's enterprise would have been so much more awesome with actual Klingon battlecruisers, apparently they wanted to do a whole new ship for that episode but didn't have the time of budget. Great work.
That was so damn incredible. I mean, wow. Wow! I'm speechless. So much attention to detail. I could pause on the Enterprise, and see things (in my Picard accent) "never seen before"!
I was watching the sneak peek clip for episode 10 of Picard and I noticed the shot of the Enterprise coming out of warp looked almost identical to the one you made of the Enterprise at the end of this video. Looks like where they got the inspiration for that shot.🙂
This was an amazing piece of work. I love the little details, such as various stateroom lights turning on and off as the ship passes the camera. Phenomenal!
..its 2023 I'm 42 ..but I remember watching in1987 . But the only way was watching on a 12 " black and white tv. When I saw it in color....it is beautiful.
If we'd had this clear an image of the ship back then and not that crappy video resolution they used, I would have actually felt something for this ship. She always looked like an overstyled model without any detail, and it turned me off. I only started to feel and believe it to be an actual ship with people on it back when Generations came into theatres and we finally got a high resolution image of her. Absolutely loved it. Your creation here is superior to that one.
When I used to watch TNG.DS9.VOY and ENT I imagined that future effects would be like your video.Clean, detailed and beautiful to look at.And not like Discovery and Picard with those absurd glares. Thanks
From the 1:20 mark to 1:39 (just before the Enterprise goes warp) someone from the production of Picard season 3 must have been a fan of this video as it was used during the opener of episode 10, when the Enterprise comes out of warp near Jupiter. With the exception of the burn damage to the front of the Saucer (continuity nod from Generations) it's practically shot-for-shot.
I noticed that, especially since the traditional opening has the Enterprise flying under the camera rather than that flyby at that point. I also noticed that you can see things behind the windows in almost exactly the same way. Even the angle from behind the ship following the flyover matches up.
As much as I love the big D I always felt some of the shots you’d see in TNG was pretty unflattering of the ship. I really like what you’ve done with it in this and other videos. Looks amazing
Most of that was because all of the Enterprise shots were done with a scale model the size of a pool table and a camera rig, and the saucer was so heavy that most of the shots were filmed upside down so that the saucer could be rested on a surface and only the drive section had to be held up. This all limited the number of exterior shots they could do, and they reused a lot of them. Unique shots were done for special occasions, like the very last scene in the finale where the Enterprise flies off into the distance as the credits roll.
