Cashman and Hal Steinbrenner are a couple of empty suits. If they don't sign Soto long term, that would be the final nail in their coffins. If they don't sign Soto long term, Steinbrenner should sell the club as a favor to Yankee fans and to baseball, in general. Even if they do sign Soto long term, they should have never hired Cashman in the first place and certainly should have fired him a zillion times along the way in his reign of error. Considering the resources that Cashman has to work with, he has been the worst general manager in baseball his entire career. The core four (plus A-Rod) carried his sorry career for him into the early teens. After that, with all the money and the most iconic franchise in the biggest market in all sports in the world, the Yankees could only manage being a tick over mediocre the past decade. In his two decades at the helm, you can count on one hand, and have a couple of fingers left over, the star players his putrid farm systems have developed. Bottom line, only a moron doesn't realize that if the iconic Yankees in the world's biggest market are contenders and have at least a few superstars, no matter how much money they spend, they will make it back and a lot more. Steinbrenner's father figured that out. This Steinbrenner is clueless. And his zero of a General Manager has only made things much worse.
I laugh at people like you. Cashman has made a lot more good moves than bad ones. He doesn't get to second guess like most fans. Go ahead and name me a whole list of bad moves he made that weren't reasonable at the time? The Ellsbury was the only contract he gave I really couldn't defend. And for being a gm for so long he's only made a few terrible trades. He's made a lot more good ones than bad. And I hate cashman as a person. But as a GM he's done a good job and if the yanks ever got rid of him he would find another job in a heartbeat. So spare the worst GM BS.
