Tim, I enjoyed your talk. One nitpick: the Chicago Tribune correspondent you quote at 3:15 seems to have confused Richard Ewell with his older brother Benjamin, an engineer who worked 1836-1839 on what became the Northern Central, along with Isaac Trimble of Gettysburg fame. Richard Ewell spent his antebellum career in the US Army. See Mingus, Soldiers, Spies & Steam (2016), p. 7.
