He didn't slip away. The Lord Jesus Christ chose him because he was evil in his heart. 70 Jesus answered them, “Did I not choose you, the twelve, and one of you is a devil?” This show often misrepresents what scripture clearly says.

Humanizing Judas is one of the best things The Chosen has ever done. Because people seem to forget, that apart from his flaws, he was a person. Someone Jesus loved. Yes I know that's hard to believe, but he did. Much props to Luke for eating up this role. And for Dallas and the writers doing a fantastic job.

@@youllis you haven't been wrong about him, you just can't see yourself in him. God is all that is, is beyond everything, you are God, Judas is God, Jesus is God, just in different ways, different expressions of God. There's no other force or person beyond us, it's the power of love that we carry inside that connects us all, and feeling that love makes you feel that infinite love to yourself, to all. Jesus doesn't need to forgive Judas, he created Judas and understands everything,, he knows everything is perfect as it is, there are no wrongs, but he does it from a place of love, from what we call the heart, so there's no need for him to understand, he already knows. It's like as a parent when you know what your children are going through and you have compassion for them because you recognize yourself in them. We haven't been wrong about anything at all. We are in a learning process and we can't see certain things with clarity yet but that's not wrong. It's like saying that you are wrong for not knowing how I feel right now, you don't know it yet but you are not wrong. If you felt your whole self, if you loved yourself unconditionally, you would be able to do it then, and you would know all the truth then. My truth revealed let me see that Judas did what he did as part of God's plan to have Jesus killed and for us to go through all we have for two thousand years, that is, not to be able to feel Jesus's love but instead being stuck with what you may call the wrongs, which ended up in Jesus's death. We needed to feel the pain of losing him for so long because of the way we are (not separation between other people and us, we are all one). When you have deep pain,, you stay in your head, unable to feel any love, without love you feel fear and feel lost, thinking that what hurts you is what others did, instead of seeing yourself, seeing that deep down, love is still there and won't let you go, making it difficult to embrace pain as part of your growth, embracing it and being grateful for it. Everything that happens is for our own good and the more love you give yourself while you are in pain, the more you recognize your pain, you, the love who's feeling it, the faster you will heal from it. Now we are starting to feel ourselves, first because people feel Jesus is coming back again and we feel safe, but at the same time for some people, that makes them feel anxious because they think they've done something wrong and he won't forgive them, so they are starting to be aware of who they are, that what they really think and feel about others is themselves. They are questioning themselves as never before, trying to see if they did something wrong that could be judged by God. Judging Judas, being stuck in the darkness and not able to see the light is not wrong, it's just painful and God has compassion for us, for the pain we feel. He'll come and show us that we hurt ourselves with no intention of doing so, that all we tried to do was to feel love,, unable to do it because we are scared and we are all allowed to be scared because fear is part of love, same as darkness, it's just so damn uncomfortable to feel. Humans have done the same as Judas did, we've killed ourselves, judging us and not allowing us to feel love, but it's how love works, you learn through experience and you need to experience separation to have the need to go back to union and to do it so. How can you punish someone who is in deep pain for not feeling love? How can you add pain to pain that is already there? Someone feeling unconditional love would never do that, would reach out their hand to hold yours and show you the way back to love.

@@tuckersmom8805 Well... it still was his own decision to deal with the Pharisees. He got in their trap, but still could have said no. And who knows how many people rejected their offer before Judas accepted it 🤔? And then the Pharisees would have found another way to find Jesus and kill him. Without a single person so close to Him. I don't think Judas is responsible for Jesus Christ's death! Still the Pharisees are! If Judas might have known or guessed that they want to kill Jesus, he might have been able to resist the temptation. Dealing with the corrupt Pharisees was the mistake. He might not have known how evil they where. But giving Jesus a kiss to deliver Him to them - that was devious. But what do we know about all the circumstances 2000 years ago ? Only that little bit written in the bible... T'will be interesting how Season 4 will portray him. Honestly watching how the Chosen has portrayed Judas has truly helped me understand how subtle and how easy it is to think we're following Jesus, while really following our own version of we think it means to follow Jesus. It's really helped me to really stop and pray and ask God to help me to truly follow Him and for Him to be truly my Lord and me to be His disciple, and be willing for God to challenge and change what I think that means. When you look at Simon Z willingly shedding all his zealot thinking to follow Jesus and accept Jesus teaching much more willingly. It's still hard for him but he's more willing to do that because the main thing is he accepts Jesus is the Messiah so what He says is right. For Judas I get the feeling it's much more that he thinks he knows what the Messiah is and should be and that he loves when Jesus fits his image of the Messiah but will struggle more and more when he doesn't. And that's going to happen more and more in these next seasons and he's going to be more and more confused because he's more unwilling to let go of his understanding of what the Messiah should be. Finding this so much more challenging to my faith walk and wanting to ensure that Jesus is in charge of my life as my Lord. Jesus prayer in the Garden of "Not my will, but Your will be done" has even more impact now.

He was definitely a struggling follower of Jesus. He represented what is in so many people’s hearts, the desire for control and then the despair that comes from isolation and fear. Yes he denied the power of Christ and despite obvious weakness and extreme despair he still could have had forgiveness even at the moment of death because God’s Divine Mercy can and does exist outside of time. His Mercy has no boundaries! Judas definitely betrayed Jesus- yet we can still pray God forgave if Judas in the milli second after hanging there was genuine regret before death. I believe that. I will always believe that Jesus’s Mercy is an abyss of love that is outside of earthly understanding and will triumph over judgment. Lord have mercy upon him and us all! Jesus I trust in You!

I like that!! I don't see people desiring control at all. If we desired it, we would go against ourselves, because the idea of control comes from not seeing the light. Any idea that it's negative about God is an illusion. The absence of feeling love takes us to panic/fear and we can't feel God is with us, when we feel fear, we feel separated from God and we get angry, hopeless, alone...and we don't like feeling like that, so we start to think that we are doing something wrong and we blame ourselves for not feeling love (like when you said that we control as something negative). But the truth is that we never get separated from God, that love is there but we just can't feel it. Anything negative that you csn see on Judas is again an illusion, the same as if you see yourself as doing something wrong. All we do is love ourselves, though that sometimes hurts, and when Jesus comes again we will understand what everything happened the way it did back then. No mistakes, nothing wrong, it was all God's plan to bring humans the peace and love that we deserve to feel, to show us the way to our hearts. I love Judas with all my heart, even though my own feeling of separation from God didn't allow me to feel it. ❤❤❤❤

The first footage I ever saw from The Chosen was a Short my daughter showed me, about this very moment when Judas was called. I was thunderstruck! My mind reeled with the possibilities of how they might develop this character, and what that implied about the depth of their storytelling. Over the next few days, I had binge-watched the entire first two seasons. Unless we are to believe Judas was some snarling viper from the very beginning, which would mean our Lord had called an obvious, cartoonish villain into the group, a foul and corrupt man to represent Him, to carry His message through the entire three-year ministry before his final betrayal, we must recognize that Judas would have gone through some sort of an arc in his story. Perhaps a fresh-faced new convert, full of wonderful possibility and hopefulness, working just as hard as the others to preach the message of our Lord and support Him in the work. Right up until he begins to falter, to turn, to doubt, to think of his own fortunes. Until at last we find him in a room conspiring with his Master's enemies for a mere handful of silver, thirty pieces, fewer coins than in our modern roll of quarters! And Judas' arc in many ways applies to us all. We are all born innocent into this world, and yet the Bible tells us all have sinned. Somewhere between those two points exists Judas! Just as his sin literally put Jesus on that cross, so our sins put him there also. And just as literally! And so I binge-watched, in part to receive a cautionary lesson from the possible life of the most notable traitor in all history, from a show that was deep enough, bold enough, to teach me that lesson. I watched because I knew this show had something of substance to say. As it has. As it continues to do.

@@kimberlymayes4061 I know you hearken from a doctrinal tradition which teaches that, and I'm not trying to start any arguments in the Comments. So I'll just say that, in line with my original comment about Judas, sin is something we choose to do instead of doing God's will. Repentance is deciding to no longer do that. Obedience is doing God's will, not our own. Judas chose the one path and not the other, not because of anything outside of his ability to choose, such as the world he was born into. He could not blame it on anything other than his own willfulness. He chose sin, and that was fully on him. And on us, 'us' being those of us old enough to choose it. But there is a way out of those poor choices, through the sacrifice of our Lord, and the blood He shed for the remission of our sins. May we all avail ourselves of that grace through repentance and obedience, turning aside from Judas' destructive path before we meet his ignominious end. Peace.
@workinprogress-ye5or
@workinprogress-ye5or 3 месяца назад
I hope too....Granted, there are some apparent exceptions, especially within the Eastern tradition. Origen in his commentary on Matthew holds out hope for a Judas who was so filled with remorse that he impulsively wanted to precede Our Lord in death so as to be able to encounter him in his “naked soul” and beg for pardon. St. Gregory of Nyssa tends toward a hopeful opinion; St. Silouan of Athos says we should pray for his salvation even now. Pope Benedict had this to say of Judas: The choice [of Our Lord in making Judas an apostle and companion] darkens the mystery around his eternal fate, knowing that Judas “repented and brought back the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and the elders, saying, ‘I have sinned in betraying innocent blood’” (Matt. 27:3-4). Even though he went to hang himself (cf. Matt. 27: 5), it is not up to us to judge his gesture, substituting ourselves for the infinitely merciful and just God.

@workinprogress-ye5or
@workinprogress-ye5or 3 месяца назад
@@gmddolbaeb2191 Well my religion says I could so I do. Prayers are never wasted. Pretty much all religions have prayer for the dead. I read this today. The practice is not just Catholic and it is biblical. First, it isn’t only Catholics who pray for the dead. Except in the Protestant community, prayer for the dead is universal among Christians. Further, prayer for the dead has been practiced by Jews since before the time of Christ and continues to be practiced by them today. In Scripture, Judah Maccabee and his men were retrieving the bodies of fallen comrades when they discovered the men who had fallen were wearing pagan amulets, and so “they turned to prayer, beseech- ing that the sin which had been committed might be wholly blotted out” (2 Macc. 12:42). Protestants may not regard this passage as Scripture, but Catholics do, and it is thus legitimate for them to appeal to it. Whether one regards it as Scripture or not, it constitutes evidence of prayer for the dead among Jews before the time of Christ, and Jews continue to pray for the dead today, particularly using a prayer known as the Mourner’s Kaddish. The New Testament also contains a plausible instance of prayer for the dead. After praying or the household of a man named Onesiphorus, Paul goes on to pray “may the Lord grant him to find mercy from the Lord on that Day” (2 Tim. 1:18). Paul twice mentions “the household of Onesiphorus” (2 Tim. 1:16, 4:19), but does not greet him with the rest of his household and speaks of him only in the past tense. Many scholars have concluded that Onesiphorus had passed away and thus Paul was praying for the departed. Many Protestants, too, spontaneously ask God to bless their departed loved ones. Thus the Protestant apologist C.S. Lewis writes: “Of course I pray for the dead. The action is so spontaneous, so all but inevitable, that only the most compulsive theological case against it would deter me. . . . At our age the majority of those we love best are dead. What sort of intercourse with God could I have if what I love best were unmentionable to Him?” (Letters to Malcolm: Chiefly on Prayer, 107).

@@workinprogress-ye5or When a person dies his soul goes to either heaven or hell. There is no second chance after death. The Bible tells us, "Man is destined to die once and after that to face judgment" (Hebrew 9:27, see also Luke 16:19-31). It would do no good to pray for someone who has died. Other religions are made to falsify the bible.

@@workinprogress-ye5or 1. A lot of the Bible is descriptive, not prescriptive. Especially the OT. So even if you take Maccabees as Bible, just because someone prayed for the dead does not mean that we should as well. 2. Onesiphorus - speculation that goes against clear teaching of scripture. Their are many passages in the Bible that teach that man's destiny (hell or heaven) is fixed at the time of death. 3. C.S Lewis - as much as I love the man and all that he has done for the church, he is wrong on this point. He wasn't infallible in his theology. He also tended towards universalism - the belief that Christ's death opened up the way of salvation for all men, not just those that put their faith in Jesus' atoning sacrifice. In the long run, it really doesn't matter what man teaches, the Bible is the only inspired Word of God - our only infallible guide.

Luke is great in playing Judas! Seeing him play such a controversial disciple, on the screen, makes me think how vulnerable to evil ways we all can be, even when we love and follow Jesus. We still sin and let evil in. Can't wait for season 4 to get to the AP. Hurry Hurry please!!! Best show EVER EVER EVER 🙏🕊🙌💜🤍💜

Had he been able to foresee it, the fate from which he is likely suffering is one that would have made his loneliness in the field blood seem enviable by comparison. Still, until I die and either meet him or separate from him forever, I cannot know. I have NEVER even thought about the background of Judas till this series. Nor how Jesus loved him like the others, even though He KNEW that it would have been better had he not been born. I also just noticed that perhaps Judas was the only one (or first) to call himself prior to Jesus saying "follow Me." The Chosen is outstanding.

I hope that Judas' ultimate transformation, from loyal disciple to traitor, will be handled with care, and not simply be the result of greed, as is so often the case with past televised and cinematic depictions of Judas. The Chosen team has a track record of producing interesting back stories, so I am hoping this lamentable change in Judas will result from a much deeper internal and complex turmoil. One of the many things the writers of The Chosen have been really good at doing is putting these characters in situations and saddling them with flaws that are relatable to people today. The best antagonists are the ones whose decision we disagree with, but whose plight we can sympathize with.

This fellow really does do a good job of portraying Judas, however, with no maliciousness whatsoever, and from what I’ve seen so far of his role, they’re playing him way too soft. Judas Iscariot wasn’t just a good guy who is confused about the purpose of Christ’s mission. He was really kind of a creep right from the get-go. ”Six days before the Passover, Jesus came to Bethany, where Lazarus lived, whom Jesus had raised from the dead. Here a dinner was given in Jesus’ honour. Martha served, while Lazarus was among those reclining at the table with him. Then Mary took about half a litre of pure nard, an expensive perfume; she poured it on Jesus’ feet and wiped his feet with her hair. And the house was filled with the fragrance of the perfume. But one of his disciples, Judas Iscariot, who was later to betray him, objected, ‘Why wasn’t this perfume sold and the money given to the poor? It was worth a year’s wages.’ He did not say this because he cared about the poor but because he was a thief; as keeper of the money bag, he used to help himself to what was put into it.“ ‭‭John‬ ‭12‬:‭1‬-‭6‬ ‭NIVUK‬‬

Judas Iscariot isn't the only one whom betrayed Jesus. All of His 11 disciples/apostles did the same, when they left Him after Jesus got arrested, tortured, and killed. Even Peter almost did the equal betrayal as Judas, when he denied Him 3 times. The only difference was Peter admitted his mistake, repented of his sin by crying a lot, and then came back to Him after ressurrection. In case of Judas, we may not know enough whether Judas was also felt terrible heartbroken and repented after what he did. But the problem is Judas by his own free-will, chose a bad solution to admit his sin. By doing suicide, he was doing another fatal/grave sin of blasphemy to Holy Spirit; Whom give us life, knowledge, good consciousness, and most importantly God's mercy. So, even if God knew of how was Judas would ended his own life, it doesn't mean God is already decide or create him since beginning, to be born as a traitor. Remember, He creates us to have our own free-will also, just as Judas had. God will always helping and saves us, if we are also willingly come to Him. He is showing to us the consequences of choosing between being good in God's eye or keep hurting His heart by doing evil until we die. The choice is ours, but the judgement is His.

I think in the scene (Mathew: beatitudes) when Judas said to Jesus, "...I want to follow you", Jesus knew right then that Judas was his betrayer. Obviously as part of the Trinity, Jesus knows everything, but while he was incarnate...that ability 100% is not clear. Never the less, in Jesus' response, "You would?" and the look on his face, he knows Judas was going to sell out for a bag of silver. Yet, it is not simple as that. Judas became possessed by Satan to commit the act of betrayal and then committed suicide. That always puzzled me on how he was used.
