Rob Halford casually strolling around till making to the stage at "I'm made of metal". And it is one of the most epic rock n roll entrances of all time.
Well there's the motorcycle too :) For me as a guitar player it's the Sentinel, darkness as two guitarists emerge from both sides playing the intro with the rest of the band appearing as the verse begins. Always epic.
Exactly. He just slowly walks in and that makes all the difference in the world. It should be shown and teached to at Actor's studio. There is a lot of anticipation in a crowd of more than 300'000 people. How can you make that anticipation grow even more and then subjugate the crowd? Well ... just watch Rob Halford doing it
I'm 58yrs old 🇦🇺 & this song along with you got another thing coming are great guitar riffs that a person can't help but rock out to... So many iconic tunes
+zynjan I've only seen Priest once & it was with Tim Owens so I never thought that it counted. Will be seeing them with Rob in a few weeks though. Can't wait!
i love how Judas Priest are so perfect that they can put a live version as the official video, and not have it change anything because they sound the exact same
So, I didn’t even know this song four days ago. _Already_ obsessed with the way Rob starts singing when he isn’t even onstage, just like how you can’t see the Electric Eye…but it sees you.
Maybe his heart was racing but he did not show it and by walking slowly, he kept calm and was able to sing perfectly without running out of breath. Let's not forget he was facing a crowd of more than 300'000 people! During the rehearsal he probably counted the steps necessary to appear at the perfect moment ("I am made of metal"). His timing was perfect and the coup-de-theatre of starting to sing without being on stage was phenomenal, because the anticipation just kept growing.
A random metalhead and gamer which couldn't think of a good name and he kept on typing stuff into it Is this a real question? I thought this was the one thing EVERYONE knew about Halford. Check Wikipedia if you're serious.
@@codybourdeau9352 he did lose his voice for a notable period, However he has done a tremendous amount of work and training to get it back to the point where it is absolutely uncanny for a 70 year old man.
@@MegaSlayerOfPantericaKreators yeah, yeah yeah I’m gonna say something really stupid now. Also been really really hard DO played. For Sabbath.… I’m sure you know that and if not, no big deal I’m an old man now honestly, tell me when you think you learn that information for the first time.… Even mine I’m an older gentleman
Exactly! Great comment! It is almost terrifying how great they sound live... Goes to show what monster players they are and the otherworldly voice that Rob had.
@@Toys_in_the_Attic Not just Rob's voice. Something about the music and performance skills just don't need heavy studio work to sound good. Geoff Tate and Don Dokken were great in their day, but I don't recall Queensryche and Dokken sounding as good live as on the record.
I am a big fan of Halford and JP. and I never realized he was gay even after Police Academy scene of the Blue Oyster Bar.....us guys who were teenagers in the 80s only saw Judas priest and Rob Halford as Bad Ass Metal Heroes
The gayest, heaviest song in history is Priest's "Raw Deal". All about hooking up in gay bars and nobody even noticed or cared because the song was really all about f-ing attitude! :)
Every magazine it seemed had him on the cover, all dressed up as "Leather boy". I'm straight and I saw it! I was a class of '82, so I was kinda around when these little mags were everywhere. He's still the man! Ozzy may be the Prince of Darkness, but Rob rules the empire!
Rob Halford, and ONLY Rob Halford can casually walk on stage a few seconds late, and have it be the most metal thing you’ve ever seen. God I love that man!
@@DirtyDoctorDan these lyrics are cheesy ? The lyrics in “Electric Eye” describe how satellites can watch your every move on earth, how we are being monitored….. the lyrics are quite ahead of their time. Even though they had satellites in early 1980, there was not a lot compared to today. Lyrics are inspired by the book “1984” by George Orwell, where “Big Brother” is called Electric Eye and he watches over everybody and knows what they do. This song might be the one with the least cheesy lyrics in Judas Priest entire discography, and it portrays todays reality for a large portion of the world. So, when you claim these lyrics are cheesy, you show that you have absolutely zero clue, about anything or anyone. Have you even READ the lyrics ? Unbelievable….
To me it was the coolest, most confident entrance, with somewhere around 250-300,000 people out there and Halford goes out there like a General taking charge of the situation. Awesome.
I was there. It was unreal! Just turned 18 the week before. A bunch of us went out there for three days in the brutal heat. We were young and about to graduate high school so this was to be one of our final adventures we would all be together at. Never forget this show plus all the other bands that played. This was a once in a lifetime opportunity. If the younger generations got to experience what we did today then world would have a lot less depression in it...
+SpectacularName And *THAT..?!* is why Halford is the God of All Metal. I have seen Rob & Co. in concert on 5 separate occasions, (over 3 different decades) and the one absolute..? was his performance in concert! There is none better - Methinks there never will be.
+SpectacularName *Exactly!!* Ronnie James Dio may have been the (quote) "Voice of Metal" and Ozzy may well be the Prince of Darkness (although I still say THAT title belongs to Sir Christopher Lee) and Bruce (admittedly) is an unequaled Living Legend, but only Halford can rightly be called a Metal God. (*THE* Metal God!)
+SpectacularName Listen to rob Halford's high notes and power while delivering them i a few tracks on their Unleashed in the East album (1979) The Ripper and Victim of Changes in particular.
I still think that this is the best song that Judas Priest ever made... I like the anti-surveillance-society message in it... It picks up where the toxic technology of Black Sabbath's "Iron Man" left off... These songs don't merely have "kick ass sounds" in them on the surface, they speak truth about the fucked up world we live in.
+gayson jaddie I agree on Realms but i like the even earlier stuff better. I always thought Blood Red Skies was a good follow up to Electric Eye, and perhaps a candidate for Terminator 2 soundtrack.
I work as a guard in a supermarket, when I go around guarding the store I like to hum this song just for myself. Anyway, people don't know what the hell I'm singing, I'm from Tijuana, Mexico.
Subtly was never his strong suit, I'm surprised it wasn't talked about more. He didn't exactly hide it 😂. He's so talented that even the homophobic loved his music, when your that good that you can turn back hate you know your doing something right
I'm 22 and saw them at PowerTrip in California along with ACDC, Metallica, Iron Maiden, etc. Front and center in the pit this past October and it was one of the best shows I've ever seen. I'm an audio engineer and you're right that the live mix their engineers get going for them is second to none. Real artists working those mixers making them sound their best.
Whenever Tipton and downing do solos live, it always sounds way better than the actual album versions. Truly talented and the greatest metal duo of all time
I've got to say those are the two best duo guitar players ever. They compliment each other very well. One makes the other perform at his best. Two of my favorite guitar players ever. And Judas priest is one of the best bands ever.

@@ALLMETAL1970 funnily enough I prefer Jackson (or any of the other superstrat brands ie Kramer, ESP, Ibanez) on a Marshall because you know... leads...
I've been to their Show at 2005 -Angel Of Retrebution, Live in Moscow. It was jast great! The powerful and so clear and strong voice of Rob - it was something unbelievable...
This was my first festival. I remember the two cute girls rubbing sunscreen all over me during this song. I was only 14 and still a virgin. I was high on acid and so awkward. But in that moment, I was cool and life was really good. What an awesome day.
I live about 40 miles from where the US festival was held, and I still think I could feel it shaking my house during the show. Impossible, I know, but to be a middle school metalhead during those glorious years was quite great.
The lyrics of this song are not only poetic, but incredibly prophetic, as well! They accurately describe the surveillance police state we're living in today! Over 40 years ago! Did Rob know something that most others didn't at the time? Or was it keen insight? A little of both, maybe? Who knows! Bottom line, this song KICKS ASS!
Yes I think of this when I heard about the man who was locked out of his Smart Home because an Amazon driver claimed the ring door bell called him a racist name. The man was LOCKED out of his home by Amazon, with no investigation he was GUILTY before proven innocent.

Halford is an icon, a metal god, blessed with this voice and such one of the nicest guys. The music of Judas Priest will be always and forever in my heart.
I love the way Rob just casually strolls onto the stage from the side as if to convey to the audience without saying any words, "This is how heavy metal is supposed to be done mudda fugga!!!" LOL!
I am convinced that Rob Halford is actually the Greek god Apollo in human form, that once his vessel dies he will return to the Olympian Pantheon knowing he left the world a better place for us all. Thus explaining Rob's majestic and unworldly voice. Lol
@@akunformalitas but none of these two guitarists is with Priest any longer. One got fired and one got too sick to play anymore. So how can they make the same faces now?

The huge smile and recognition Glenn has when he walks out on stage And looks up at the audience Almost as if he is so proud he knows he is the man And has achieved Metal God
1:15 - What did you do this Weekend? "I had a grown man in a full studded black-leather cop uniform and aviator sunglasses point at me while holding his bull whip"
I had this on 8-track when I was fourteen. Screaming for vengeance opens with The Hellion/Electric Eye and the first time I heard it, it blew me away. I've been a fan ever since. The lyrics to Electric Eye were foreshadowing what we are experiencing today, very prescient.
I´m 39 years old and have discovered the music of this band just this week. I´m totally amazed and happy to have discovered them. I knew they existed, of course, only I hadn´t listened to anything by them. I´ve already bought Painkiller and surely will buy more records!!!! This band is fuckin´amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My wife made the guitars they were are playing from back in the days! She was level 4 maker on the line at the factory in Nashville! She never knew it was going to be his band’s guitars 🎸! Cool story
That's because he friggin' owns the stage when he's out there. I saw them 2 years go, and it was probably the best JP show that I've ever seen, and I've been to 15 or so since 1980. The band and Rob were just dead on perfect.
I was in my early teens when I seen this video on MTV Headbanger's ball back in the 1980s and I was in my early teens and now I'm 54 and my wife is 56 she remembers it
I am so deeply ashamed and disappointed.... in myself for never getting into or giving Judas Priest a chance. Holy fuck I love every damn song I hear... WHAT THE FUCK ME!?!?! I also hate myself for not doing the same with Dio/Anything Dio's done and Motorhead why the fuck gahhhh I am so besides myself
Don't be so sad, you still have a chance to see Priest live. Now they're working on the upcoming album and in 2018 there probably will be a world tour. The latest tour was great, it was Rob's best time since 16 years.
True true dude and nice I wish I could've been there. I love leather aesthetic the music and just how sick and heavy it all is. Plus his highs are insane.
A band is only good as its drummer, i cannot listen to any judas priest without Dave Holland , the way he drives the band , the sound of his snare drum, and just the perfect chemistry with the band. There is no Judas Priest without Dave Holland....
He was their best drummer and gave the band some swing. Ironically, for a band that so proudly ( I hate that word now) waves the Metal banner, he wasn't the most metal drummer, but he was really important to the Priest sound. All metal bands have metal drummers, but none of them sound like Judas Priest., but Priest sounded like the others without Holland. He's not flashy, but his importance is glaringly obvious. I agree with "firework" comment. Listen to Desert Plain for that feel/groove he brought to the band...That's my favorite Priest song.
Judas Priest, POR SIEMPRE 🔥❤
It should be teached at Actor's studio. The ultimate "I am in control". You are more than 300'000 ? Who cares? You could be 1 million and I would master you anyway.
