The Metal Gods Judas Priest perform the ballad, 'When the Night Comes Down' live in Canada, 1984. Music this honestly rendered, genuine, and meaningful is virtually non existent today.
Undoubtedly in the top ten of all time great Priest songs. Criminally underrated, and one that I'd like to see them dust off and bring back into the setlist--at least once.
Even though Priest is one of the most famous bands in the world, I think they should still be much more appreciated. I guess because I'm a die hard fan...

The fact is Maiden has got more fans and sold more copies but Judas means much more to me than Maiden. Maiden has been searching for their old style since 2006
I've followed them since 1980. By far the best live band I've seen I belive they sound better live. I'm 45 and will be rocking priest to my grave. Priest forever
Wow. All this, without auto tune. Rob has an amazing voice, and amazing tonal control, to be able to jump several octaves like that. 3:22 made the hair on my arms stand on end, and gave me goosebumps everywhere. Like I was plugged into electricity. Incredible.
I saw them on this 1984 tour in San Diego; 60 years old and still a Priest fan. I saw them again last year and I'd like to see their last tour but I don't think it'd be quite the same without K.K.
The part 1:57 where he sings “as the lights start to dim and the fear closes in” is one of the most magical moments from Priest in my opinion. The music, the lyrics, Halford’s voice and theatrics, the mist and the lights fit so perfectly! This track is such a lost opportunity that I get a bit sad.
This song is just fucking awesome! It's one of those I could listen to 100 times and love it just as much as the first time... There are not many songs I can say that about.
I was at this absolutely incredible concert in Montreal - about 15 rows back on the floor (they had seats on the floor). Probably my favourite of the many concerts that I've been to, and I've seen the Priest over a dozen times. Ol' Bobby was in prime form, as was the rest of the band. My friends and I even got to meet the lads after the show. I've seen MANY concerts, many diverse styles of music, and most of my favourite bands several times, but NOBODY brings it live like The PRIEST! I can't wait to see them again in March 2018!
@@jeffreywarme8594 I had tickets for the Toronto show which is usually right before or after Montreal (Great White opened) in March 84, then i wiped out on my motorcycle a week before and was in the hospital for a month with a broken ankle. Had to miss the concert, and gave my friend, who was going with me, my ticket. I got to see them in Toronto for the Turbo tour, but wished the hell i'd seen this one! :/ BTW... would loved to have seen Saxon!
This is one my favorites from priest , give me goose bumps being stoned out of my mind driving home at 1:30 am from Woodanville Washington over the 520 floating bridge home !!! Fuck ya ! also coked out 😉 i am 53
The best tour was this one. 1984. I saw it a Madison Square Garden! They got banned for life that night. Because us fans, ripped every single foam seat cushion out of the denim material, and then flung them about the arena. And on stage too! This is how we showed our appreciation for a kick-ass show! True story. June 1984.
I agree mate, I bought Screaming For Vengeance at the same time, and for some reason just listened to that more. Defenders truly is AWESOME. This song is great, I also really like Heavy Duty/DOTF, even tracks like Jawbreaker, I didn't appreciate until a few listens. British Steel was pretty class, Point of Entry had a few good tracks, Screaming for Vengeance is a good no nonsense rocker, and Defenders experimented, and yet really lived up to the other stuf as well. Class album
Fuckin' incredible! Rob Halford is truly the one and only METAL GOD! I mean, Bruce Dickinson, Dio, Michael Kiske and Eric Adams are also great vocalists, but Rob is the indisputed King! (..or at least was the undisputed King for some 15 years!)
Geez that voice is a weapon. I agree a very underated song. That last phrase always sends shivers down my spine. "And Im here all alooooooooooooone" ;-)
One of the greatest hard rock or heavy metal songs of all times, and one of the best live performance lead vocals ever! Rob Halford of Judas Priest and Dan McCafferty of Nazareth are individually incomparable, and both bands should have been inducted into The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame decades ago for their influence.
Personally i Think that it's best when musicians write songs that come straight from the heart. And that's what i like about Rob Halford he sang what he felt and what he lived all the those bad memories and the bad life and the hard test you have to go through before you have a band and get famous. Rock On Judas Priest
love this song by priest it brings me back to the 80's when metal was METAL this is by far one of thier best songs but there are so many and i LOVE them all i will go see them everytime the play now that rob is back,.. thanks for this great video
In the US, on the same tour, this came on after the last encore and the lights came on, time to go home -- bummer. Thanks for this upload, strong vocal and all.
This is one of my best JP songs. It is great to see all the comments giving this group the recognition they never really got-even in there prime. I remember making a JP emplem out of aluminum in METAL SHOP class. I might still have it somewhere.
From your description: "Music this honestly rendered, genuine, and meaningful is virtually non existent today. " So TRUE!!! Thanks for posting this great live version of this song.
THat vid a piece of anthology. I didn't even know that they ever player that song in concert. It's simply awesome. Thank you very much for the great vid.
Just incredible !!! Its songs like this that makes it great to be alive . Ive been to every Priest concert in my town . I have a 4 way tie in the best bands ever to be on this planet ~ Judas Priest, Led Zeppelin, Lynyrd Skynyrd & Black Sabbath . There will never be anything or any band that even comes close to those 4. Ever. Face it.
I could listen to Rob & Priest all day & nite.Rob "IMO" is the best ever. Not to mention Glenn,KK,Ian,Dave.Just a gr8 combination.Ever wonder why Dave left?I here he got into some kinda trouble.
Adoro este tema... sobretodo por la voz de Halford, ideal para cuando uno desea relajarse con buena musica... Grande Judas!!! ojala hubiese estado entre 83 y el 88 hubiese sido genial haber estado ahi... Gracias RU-vid por existir
i ttally agree i was at the borgata show in atlantic city and these wo young kids were next to me totally blown aaaaawaaaaaayy by them they said to me this is the best concert i ever been to,........and i said and it always will be and they did desert plains for the first time in years at least with rob anyway a real treat psyched for the tour 2008 i be in front row if i gotta pay 500 a seat lol
When this album came out,I was a bit disappointed because Screaming for Vengeance was just so killer. It seemed not quite as good. But as time as gone by,this album is a classic
Imagine Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane, alone. His followers are gone or asleep. Imagine what it was like. The "night" was coming down! Jesus praying there, and coming to grips with his impending doom! As he was soon to be tortured and crucified by his enemies. I think this song captures that feeling to a certain extent.
