This is great to see this video! I was one of two cinematographers to shoot this. I did all the "B" roll slice of life footage that wraps thru the video. Pliny Porter was the second unit director. I had no idea that Keifer Sutherland was directing until i was halfway thru the nite of shooting. Me and Pliny went with a 16mm camera and shot out of a van grabbing whatever was going on that nite around hollywood!. Was good times! Awesome tune! I'm proud to have been part of this one!
@@duffbaker9554 and I realised I didnt answer your question....my apologies on that...no I was and have not been a UCLA student....I studied both in the UK with a stint at the BBC and in the states at a liberal arts college in NH called New England College....my training was predominately out in the field...When i was part of the Jude Cole shoot I was already in the business as a camera assistant for 6 years ...this was one of several projects that year that helped create the leap from my being an assistant to a full time cinematographer.
It's baffling and criminal Jude Cole was not bigger. This entire album was outstanding and this song is one of those that makes you pause, think about the past - good and bad - and wonder if you could, would you go back and change anything? To me, that's what makes this song truly art, so thanks, Jude, all these years later.
Jude Cole is one of the most underrated artists from that time. Wonder how things might have been different for him (& Van Halen w/Sammy Hagar) if Ed Leffler had not died. Love Jude Cole’s whole catalog! Should have been a superstar! But he went on w/Keifer S to do great things with Ironworks. BTW - have you ever checked out Keifer’s music from a couple years ago. It’s incredible! He covered one of my favorite Jude Cole songs “Open Road” and many of the songs he wrote are awesome. Really great stuff. Pax&Blessings to music lovers everywhere.
@@shootingstaroriginalbandfu9452 pero el esta vivo todavía? esta casado hijos ? yo hasta ahorita escucho esta canción estoy tratando de entenderla. Pero suena bien. Pero empecé escuchando you were in my heart esa me encanta
One of my questions I ask myself from time to time... Why do we not have guys, like Jude, on the airwaves anymore? He was an exceptional artist and so underrated. I just think our music of the 21st century would be so much better if Jude was a part of it. One of a kind and I sure miss his voice and musical talent at this time.
Good point, could be timing -- I just recently found out about Jude, but what I've heard is outstanding, but as many have already stated generally good music doesn't seem to get much air play these days. Even a group like Eagles, which is easily considered one of the best contemporary rock bands ever, would they even get radio play these days on a new release? Sure they still sell out stadiums and get plenty of internet play, but that's all base on what they pretty much accomplished in the past, when they did get air play.
@@elisecaile Perfect description of the garbage that is out there in profusion. Like a dark cloud that chokes the life out of everything that is genuinely fine.
I'm here and it's 2024, an incredible song, I love it, I didn't know Jody, it's a shame that he doesn't have Instagram to be able to write to him and tell him how great he is
Jude Cole. Truly one of the most underrated singers of all time. Also one of the best singing voices I've ever heard. I bet the UK and Europe would have truly appreciated his singing talent! I'm very surprised his songs didn't rank higher here in the U.S.
Underrated classic. There was a lot of pre grunge, post mid 80s rock pop that sprung up around this time (sweet spot is like 87-92). A lot of them had this areggiated guitar which carried the melody, along with that loud whip snare with some reverb. The quintessential of that being John waites Missing You. I think this is the best version of that. Cole also has a song called “Walls that Bend” which 80s pop revivalists would drool over, deserves a lot more attention…there are a couple other artists who pulled off this type of song but it’s incredibly difficult. Benjamin Orr’s solo record is another great example…
Jude…I listened as I drove around when I felt depressed. His songs made me feel better. Still have his CD and he was so underrated. Which sucks because he was an awesome singer and songwriter .
This is one of the best albums ever written. Jude wrote 88 songs for this album. He wrote every word of every song. He is one of the best song writers of our generation and seriously underrated as a songwriter and singer. This is my favorite album ever produced.
I owned the cassette tape back in the 90's. Brings back so many memories back when life was bohemian and I cared more about great music than paying bills.
An unsung hero if there ever was one. Precociously talented. Everything, the complete package, with one crucial, essential element: sincerity. A View from 103rd Street is a masterpiece. Should’ve easily been album of the year. Song by song, note by note, riff by riff, there’s not a wasted moment. Don’t know or disagree? Put it on, in, whatever, drop the needle or just push play. Prove me wrong. It’s even sequenced perfectly. Always gets me through the night.
So, it's been 33 years now (released in 1990, it's now 2023), and 'A View From 3rd St' is still number 6 on my list of ALL-TIME most favorite albums. And I have one qualifier which has kept a LOT of albums OFF of my all-time most favorite albums... there can't be even one "dud" track. I should be able to listen to the entire album without needing to skip even a single track. And Jude fulfilled that requirement with "3rd St." This album is a masterpiece of writing, playing, and singing. And it sounds as fresh as it did in 1990. Jude is truly a gifted songwriter/musician. Thanks for this timeless album, Jude!
I personally think this song should have made the Top 5, not a measly #32 on Billboard, I thought Jude Cole is one of the best artists we've had in the last 25 years.
I was thinking, despite the sound being pretty 80s, the vibe and feeling on the entire album is more serious and in step with the real 90s so I could see it coming out in like 1994. It might've been both a little behind and ahead of its time!
Easily one of the most underrated artists of all times. Amazing catalog. Songs that get into your soul, and you just don't get tired of. Rare for musicians now. Years later I'm loving them and appreciating them more. He wrote and sings songs that last a lifetime. Can't say that about a lot of artists.
Perfect work of art. Perfect artist. Pop culture simply couldn't and will never understand material of this depth and magnitude. Jude Cole is a legend and genius- without the proper recognition.
dramaface recordings Adding to your statement Jude Cole is more prevalent than you know. He has produced & co written most of Lifehouse's work interesting fact I thought I would share.
Stiill a Great Song!!. a classic that will live on. should have been #1 . Jude deserves to be appreciated . Glad he said the hell to the record companies and went independent. hes still putting out great stuff! keep Rockn Jude
A view from 3rd Street is the most complete album of all time. There is not one bad song on this album and Judes voice is brilliant. What a great song writer and musician. This album has inspired me to know end and Jude Cole is one of the most underrated artist ever. A million thanks Jude.
Blessings in an abundance of the faith. I salute you. 😘🙏Grace and peace be unto you and to this place. God bless you. 💫Thank you. Will you believe and receive Jesus Christ as your LORD and personal saviour??? I do. 💕
This song takes me to the streets of San Francisco, a city I love with all my heart. Its streets, its people, the Golden Gate - and I listening to Mr. Cole. Missing all those things so much. Beautiful song!
This takes me back to college. The whole world was in front of me, mine for the taking. I felt like nothing could stop me, I was gonna conquer the world...funny how life puts us on a path that we never intended on going down...but I am so glad it did!!
I adore his album "Start the Car" to me, it is one of the few albums where every single song is good. I will never understand why he did not hit the big time with that album!
Hard to imagine this song's been around for so long and I never heard it before. Jude is a soulfull singer and a brilliant guitarist. Rock on, dude! All the best with your ongoing creative ventures.
We all experience a “time for letting go” in life…..for me, it’s the end of my nine year marriage and it’s just about destroyed me……yet I’ll always love and care about her! So, Cheri, I listen to this awesome song and think what might have been….
Every time I listen to this song, it's bittersweet. The lyrics are so powerful. My head becomes flooded with so many fond memories... yet reality fills my heart with sadness. I've lived long enough to know what is real and what isn't. Even though I try to let go, I know deep down that my heart never will... because the love that I feel stays strong, just like the song says. To anyone out there who knows this sadness... the kind that is so overwhelming that it brings you to your knees... you are not alone. Stay strong. Even the darkest of nights still has a new dawn... To the woman I think of when I play this song... I will love you til the end of time. ♡
Lorrie Mazucci thank you so much for your reply. It really means a lot to me to know you can relate to how I feel. This really made my day. Just knowing that there is someone else out there who feels the same way I do makes it worth it that I shared how I feel here. I wish you nothing but the very best! :-)
Well said Michael! I feel the same way even after hearing his music for many years now! His music is like what I personally would have written if I had even an iota of his talent!
I heard it today for the first time on the radio. Thank Buddha for that Jeep Sirius stereo screen that shows me the title and artist. I thought he was a new artist! Where was I in 1990 to not have heard of him?
Clevis Cornelius this cd was mine and my late husband’s favorite. Especially while we were dating. I can’t listen to it anymore without crying. This song means to me that it’s Time For Letting Go of my grief, which will never happen. Thank you for your comment
This was one of those songs reminiscent of Richard Marx's "Right Here Waiting", that you're hearing faintly from someone's car radio as you were just waking up from a nap on a hot, late afternoon's summer's day in the late 80s, early 90s. I was going through a love-hate relationship with a girl when this song became popular during the Gulf War. Back then we didn't know if we were truly in love, as there was jealousy and suspected other people in the relationship. We break up, we get back together then broke up again for good when she ended her stint in the Air Force and went back home to MI. Never had a chance to say goodbye and never saw her again. Time For Letting Go indeed...i keep telling myself over and over...
