Think about this for a moment and let it sink in. A 20 year old, armed, drug addict is on a popular app called 'Offer Up'. He locates a phone he's interested in, contacts the seller, and they negotiated a time and place to meet with said phone. The defendant then commits armed robbery and threatened the victim with a loaded firearm. The victim doesn't know if they're going to live or die. This sentencing is just, fair, and necessary. Save the argument that he's only 20 and his brain hasn't fully formed until 25. It appears he put thought into this crime and he executed his plan poorly. These are his choices. As a society, we need to reinforce good behavior and not coddle.

This 20 year old adult is not a kid. I agree. He never had a chance to be a child, develop into a teen by learning the usual life lessons and become a responsible young adult. Now he’s become a menace and will be thrown away into the prison system where he’ll become more hardened and angry. I was robbed at gunpoint approaching my car as I left the store. I was at my passenger side loading bags into the passenger seat. He approached with a silver g*n, held down low. The only words he said were "don't move or I'll f*cking kill you." It was fast. I stared at him directly, not making him aware I was attempting to catalogue as many details about him as I could remember. After taking my purse and other belongings (luckily my keys were in my pocket), he walked behind me, and a couple spots away I heard a car door slam. I was too afraid to turn around. Seconds later I heard the car drove directly behind me. I stood there for what felt like forever, in shock at what had just happened. By the time I could see the tag, due to trees and other cars blocking my view, I was unable to make it out. I then ran back to the store crying, panicking. It was a four door white Ford explorer. It only took minutes, but I'll never be able to forget every detail. The police came, and I now protect myself and know to ALWAYS be aware of your surroundings, don't look down at your phone walking to your car, etc..keep lookout! Police came, surveillance was collected, and other evidence - what witness' saw and when. This was Jan 19, 2015. He has never been caught and held accountable, nor was the driver of the explorer. Be safe because the world is getting wilder, and people are more bold. I still think I see him at times and I'll leave. Something like that changes you. My heart goes out to this man's victim. Justice served!

She mixed up her words. An educated person would know that there's a difference between drug addiction and physical dependence. They go hand in hand most of the time, but they're different nonetheless. The mother wasn't intelligent or prepared enough to say he wasn't physically dependent . I'm sure that's what she meant. However, that's still up for debate. Someone willing to commit robbery has to be both mentally (addiction) and physically dependent. It's a desperate act imo.

In my opinion, anything involving a weapon should warrant the maximum punishment, even if the victims don’t show any physical wounds from the encounter. In 1968 my mother was the bookkeeper at a grocery store. Two young men, brothers, slipped in after closing time. One rounded up the manager and the stock boy. The other went into the office to get my mother and the money. The guy held a gun to her head while yelling at her to open the safe. She felt the gun and then heard the sound of a gunshot. The gunshot, actually, was just outside of her office and it was the brother shooting the stock boy in the stomach, not shooting her, but she NEVER got over the feel of the gun against her head while hearing that sound of the other gun going off. She was not physically the one that was shot, but it caused a great deal of permanent damage just the same. After the brother shot the stock boy, they panicked and ran out, so no one else was physically harmed. The stock boy eventually recovered from his physical wounds after a couple of surgeries, but none of the three employees were ever the same after that night. My mother and the store manager weren’t physically harmed, so no care was given to them. The year was 1968 and they didn’t know much about PTSD back then and they certainly didn’t think to or know how to help a middle aged mother of 4 deal with the trauma of that night. At the time, we kids were 12 y/o,11 y/o, I was 9 y/o, my baby sister was just 6 months old, and we saw that she was never the same after that night. She passed away 2 years ago and for the rest of her life, she would still panic at any loud noises and especially during fireworks. I really wish they would start getting a lot tougher on people who brandish weapons, because even if they don’t end up using them, guns and knives can cause a lot of damage without spilling a single drop of blood.

I - L O V E - every single thing Judge Boyd said to this defendant at the end of sentencing. She was absolutely 1000% spot on, as she usually is a great fair amount of the time. The entire way she handled this sentencing was fair, impartial and with the grace as she always handles every hearing. She’s truly wise and I wish there were more Judge Boyd’s, Judge Steven’s, Judge Simpson’s, Judge Oakley’s, &; judge Washington’s. Of course I’d be remiss if I left out the amazing ADA Mcduffie; who I think would be an Impressive and wonderful addition to this list of amazing judges. They all are truly masters of their crafts. I’ve been in the legal system before I was able to find my way and get on the correct path. I’ve had the honor of being before amazing judges and some that were just on a power ego trip and saw everyone, regardless of what they’ve done, as subhuman and beneath them. I’ll spare the stories. I’ve a judge in my neck of the woods who was like these amazing judges. They’re now off the bench, but, they made the greatest impact and impression on me. I was lucky to have them presiding over my case.. I shudder to think what the outcome for my current existence would have been otherwise.

This is heartbreaking on many levels. Nonetheless, I have full confidence in Judge Boyd’s sentencing. The fact that she shared her personal experience and referred to herself by her first name while sharing a conversation between she and her mother is a reflection of her quality of character This woman gives me hope❣️⚖️

Shame on the defense lawyer for trying to guilt the judge. This person was so damaged by his horrible parents and what he lived as a child, he didn’t have much of a chance when he came to America (illegally). You have to ask yourself how many resources can we afford “to change his life” and which veteran should get their services reduced or stopped to take care of this person? We have got to start being realistic. We can’t fix other country’s issues when we can’t take care of our own.

@jdot3345

The judge isn’t “throwing away” his life, she’s holding him accountable for the choices he made. Drugs can reduce the capacity of proper critical thinking & rationalization, not eliminate them altogether. They also didn’t choose the victim, time & location, nor did they force him to bring a gun & aim it at an innocent person. Same goes for using childhood trauma as the reason why you broke the law &/or hurt others. There are plenty of people who have lived through atrocious & violent childhoods, myself included (severe verbal & physical abuse, kidnapped & held for 2 days, molested, violently raped & sexually mutilated; holding my best friend as she bled out from a stray bullet by a gang member & a victim of an armed robbery resulting in getting stabbed in my abdomen) all without hurting anyone or committing any crimes. Your past cannot force or dictate your choices. YOU are the ONLY one who can use your soul breaking past as fuel for either cruelty & rage or a better life for yourself!! (Btw, I did not divulged part of my past because I want sympathy, pity or attention. I did it for context on why I believe heinous life experiences should not be used as an excuse for making bad choices)

Armed robberies? On, Hell No! I despise thieves. They could of charged him with Federal Internet crimes too. Drug addicts usually steal for drug money. Not set up a online armed robberies. I bet if his lawyer was robbed at gunpoint he would want him in prison. They aren't gonna put him in a therapeutic after armed robberies.

If both the defense attorney and the accused putting their heads down simultaneously wasnt a sign that they were cooked, the long stare from the accused meeting the "welp" eyebrow raise from the attorney following sentencing sure was.

Both of us have good educations, and have hope for the world, not just this country. I do hope this youngish man will decide to do much better for himself.

He does not appear to be rehabilitatable, I think he may be intellectually challenged. Prisons cannot provide the kind of help he needs, and if he were on probation he would not seek or accept that kind of help. This isn't a sentencing as much as it is a disposal from society. And I'm OK with that.
@yvonnerahmes9618
@yvonnerahmes9618 4 месяца назад
You cannot "judge" this fellow unable to become an upstanding sensible person. He just began his training during the sentencing. Now knowing he's got 14yrs in prison on his plate, he will be making yeah and nay decisions quite quickly. He will be reviewing his lead up to prison, as well as breaking sweats while in the prison. I believe that will get him on his toes and making hopefully wise decisions about those years till he gets out. It will help him in the long run.

Also, he lied about his gang sign and that added more years in the judge's opinion. But yes, why his attorney agreed to a heavy sentence probably means the State wanted more years.
