This is why Judge Cedric J. Simpson is the GOAT. My favorite. My dad died in 2018 from Frontotemporal Dementia. He couldn't talk, and he couldn't understand words. On occasion, he got agitated. He would escape the house and wander miles (once, it was in the dead of night, and he left the house in his t-shirt and boxers and walked several miles... it was winter, and Mom who is hearing impaired heard a knock on their bedroom window... that was the only indicator that he had gotten out of bed for her). I was the only advocate for taking his keys away. My mom and brother out-voted me. Daddy escaped the house unnoticed again, and drove almost to the state line. Luckily my brother had installed a tracker in Dad's truck, so he was able to intercept Dad before he entered Mississippi from Alabama. Finally, FINALLY, the keys were taken away and the truck was made so that it wouldn't crank. It was the saddest, scariest time. Daddy was a hero... a war veteran, kind-hearted to the core, and suddenly he was scared, confused, and his freedom was taken (for his own safety, but still...). To see a judge that understands, and refuses to let a dementia patient and his wife be pushed around and made to feel frantic about neighbor issues... Judge Simpson is the best.💙

So sorry about your dad. So thankful he didn’t cause a fatal car accident. I was wondering what the protocol is to get a diagnosis for Alzheimer’s? My friend that is 76 is having a hard time in general with confusion. She is very well aware something is wrong. Things are getting worse and finally she stressed her concern to her doctor and her ordered a CAT-scan or MRI for this week. I’m just wondering if it is easy to detect in brain scans when a person has dementia?
@lego65100
@lego65100 Месяц назад
@@janicescott6569 First of all, if your friend hasn't been diagnosed, it's VERY important to have someone (close family member, or best friend) who has a Durable Power of Attorney for her. After the diagnosis, it's really too late to get it in place. A family doctor can start the diagnosing process. There's a standard test that is used. If that doctor needs further testing, a neurologist can do an MRI to see if there is significant brain shrinkage. The brain shrinkage can indicate the probability of dementia. My father went to a clinic with a geriatric neurologist, and it was amazing at taking us through the stages of dementia. If you have a POA, you'll be allowed to go with your friend through all this, and be able to make decisions that your friend won't be able to at some time in the future. A friend of ours got dementia, and since she was divorced, 3 of her friends got POAs to help Gail, and even helped get her settled into Memory Care when she could no longer live at home. I sure do wish your friend's situation all the best.

I think Judge Simpson gave Mrs. Pence a boost that she may have been needing so she doesnt feel so overloaded, overlooked and all alone...I kinda think he picked that up in real time as he spoke to her. Im thankful to have seen this hearing. I just wish the Pences neighbor could.
@kimschlehuber4339

I wonder if the neighbor is a Karen? He knows loud noise triggers Mr. Pence, what was he doing to trigger him. That's why fences, especially privacy fences, are important. Mr. Pence wouldn't have gotten on the neighbors property to pound on the window and threaten him so easily. Trying to keep someone from his own property is a Karen.

Thank you Steve. You put into words what was on my mind. Every one of them right. It’s so very true. People’s pain, loneliness and feelings of helplessness are so often not addressed/acknowledged for fear of having to “get involved”. The most beautiful thing that any ONE of us can do is just that. Get involved. Trust me. It’ll make you feel good. I’m just sayin’, but me I’m just me…but that’s enough.🫶🏼🤗🌹

I am only 25 minutes into the video, so maybe more information will pop up, but I believe we shouldn't judge too fast on this neighbor. He may very well have his own issues that he struggles with and just can not be tolerant and accepting towards a confused, boundaries crossing neighbor that yells at him or bangs on his doors any more. And simply suggested not going on the driveway as a suggestion to resolve the issue for now.

I am in my 40s. A retired veteran; served in OIF and OEF. I used to get into really dark places where I would close myself off from the world for months and months at a time. I’ve stayed at the VA before. I had insurance and other options to stay elsewhere, but they knew what I needed most, so it was the best place for me at the time. Pray for this man. Everyone deserves dignity, even when they are struggling. And this neighbor needs to find a little compassion. It’s not hard to placate a person who will forget within 30 min why he was even mad. Seems to me this jerk next door just doesn’t have any empathy. But he better find some, because God tends to humble those who don’t. I know he humbled me. He humbled me GREATLY. And I praise His name for that each and every day. I am now a better person for it.

When you are the caregiver you dont have the luxury to be a sobbing mess. That comes later when you are alone when no one, especially her husband, can’t hear which sometimes means not at all. In her case, she is trying to make sure there is respite care so she will have time to rest and recover. She is doing a great job but personally I’d tell the neighbor to go screw himself. She is strong in juggling care for her husband but with my parents I found you have to be strong in a different way when dealing with others you interact with in regard to their care. Essentially, be firm and dont take any crap from anyone.

There have been only TWO wars that we Americans fought that were ACTUALLY for our freedom or "FREEDOMS". The first, we were not yet Americans and that was The Revolutionary War and the second was The Civil War. That war was fought for the ACTUAL freedoms of a segment/population of Americans who were denied EVERY freedom imaginable- EVERY FREEDOM. (WW1 and WW2 were geo-political wars) so NO OTHER WAR SINCE THEN was ever fought for OUR freedoms. All other wars after that were fought for economic and or political/geo-political interests that benefited and lined the pockets in very big ways a small percent of Americans and the ones who end up with the dirty end of the stick paying for the TRUE PRICE of war are the soldiers and vets- not the war mongers and war hawks. Unfortunately, people keep falling the the myth that soldiers fight for our freedoms when they are fighting to protect the economic interests of a few Americans and Corporations or causing turmoil in other countries so they can take and advantage of that turmoil and "take over" resources that again, benefit only few. The truth is the truth.

If it is Alzheimer’s, veteran or no veteran, ( my dad a veteran, my mom a librarian ) the time is coming where nothing but trained caregivers and a secured area will do. My experience as said caregiver was that I could not stop my loved ones from becoming violent or roaming where ever they wanted. Especially at night. ( known as sun downing) . Sadly, it’s why we hear about lost adults, found dead from hyperthermia. We all want to live as our ancestors did, all together in our long houses, working in the garden or wrenching on the old wagon. I offer a challenge to the readers who think y’all can do this and keep your life and sanity. As sad as you may feel ( or rather, uncomfortable) try taking care or simply visiting a facility. Visit the warehouse. And imagine your children living with the all nighters, the yelling, swearing, the inappropriate comments. My sibs spent two days at my moms house and she was in the care facility on the third day.

This Wife is God's Gift to Man. When I get into a relationship, I want my girlfriend or my Wife, to look at me, the way she looks at her Husband. That's the definition of true love at its best. I'm tearful just watching this because this is the type of relationship that when you get married you want. Love, caring, trust, and everything to ensure that the marriage remains strong and survives the test of time. Thanks for sharing this video.

I appreciate your comments below the recording. The initiation of an event can be started by the other party. God help the wife to help her husband. Putting him in a nursing home is expensive. The longer the husband stays at home with help, which getting help additional services is expensive, the better.

I love Judge Simpson. ❤. My own dad was a ww2 veteran, he started to get bouts of dementia late in his life. He one day found a box of love letters & thought my mom had been having an affair while he was overseas. He failed to realize those were the letters he sent to her & she to him. They were married almost 68 years & died 6 months apart. We need to protect & cherish our elderly especially veterans 💙.

This is a heartbreaking story. Having dealt with different levels of dementia and Alzheimers. Seeing the different stages has opened my eyes a lot. There is a book called the 36 hour day that helped a lot. Making sure the caretakers have such huge burdens, it is important for them to take care of themselves which is found difficult due to guilt. My heart goes out to everybody dealing with this awful disease. May some peace and comfort be found.

Judge Simpson is so amazing; I really wish that the wife would truly "hear" that she has and continues to do the best she can - not to feel guilty at all.

Sounds to me like the jerk of a neighbour deliberately antagonizes the Veteran because he knows good and well that loud noise is difficult for the Vet to tolerate. If he cared at all he would check in with them beforehand to ensure that the Vet has time to put on some noise suppression ear plugs or a headset to allow everyone to go about their normal routine without anyone unnecessarily being upset or affected by it. It’s not that hard to be caring for your neighbours wellbeing as well as your own. LOVE this Judge ❤❤

Judge Simpson is an amazing man. Many judges would have just signed the order that both parties agreed to. But I applaud him saying that there is no way he is going to put his name on an order that legally binds a man from stepping in his own property whenever he wishes. Especially more so when that man literally protected that very land, and those very rights with his own life. I’ve seen lots of political arguments in courts, and a lot of people who lost empathy; especially when I worked for the U.S. Courts. However people like Judge Simpson is why i still believe it’s a good system.

Wow respect, this relates to my own life, my father was a WW2 vet who lost his mind in his 50's, a very intelligent man (aerospace engineer) who thought there was a conspiracy against him for the rest of his life. Sadly he lost his family, but remained in society, only to live in paranoia til he died at 84. No one ever helped him, he traumatized my mom and the kids and it has had a separate effect on us but major. Now I'm 58 and have had profound issues because of his treatment of myself. Plus never having any relationship with my dad for 30 years until his death, he was alone in a mobile home. I remember at 13 my dad telling me "war is hell". Sadly, wars have this major effect on not only the soldier, but many times the soldiers family. My mother is long gone from cancer (stress), and his 3 kids including myself have had major issues, homelessness, mental depression, etc etc... He was right war is hell...It ruined his life and ours unf... I feel sorry for this lady, and kids??

Why does the Prosecutor look so disheveled? Makes me think of Judge Boyd - "If you are tested today what will the results be? And before you answer - know that you will be tested today."

This case has me in tears. I wish I was their neighbor, I would show compassion and understanding due to this man's declining mental health, especially where he is a vet. Even if he wasn't if I was aware of the situation I would just try my very best to be understanding. If the loud noise is upsetting him, turn it down to calm him. Let him have his dignity.

Oh this hits close to home for me. I’m a nurse that just happens to work in geriatrics. The agitation and anger is common in the beginning. Some families start to see their loved one change to angry for no reason, all the time. I feel for the wife because she sounds like she’s trying to tie up loose ends because of her spouse.

This case 😢😢😢. My grandfather had Alzheimer’s. When I look at the totality of this man’s circumstances, I’m appalled at the neighbor. It sounds like the defendant just yelled at him and while what he did is not okay, I would have, given my knowledge of the defendant’s health, ignored him and spoke to his wife. Instead he chose to call the police on a veteran with Alzheimer’s. Good job to Judge Simpson for recognizing the injustice happening here.
