Judicial Independence 

What does Judicial Independence have to do with Shakespeare’s famous line: “let’s kill all the lawyers”? Many people think that Shakespeare was talking about corrupt unethical lawyers. He was not. Attorney Benton will review the role and importance of lawyers, judges and the Rule of Law in preserving justice in society. She will examine the basic principles of the United States and the North Carolina Constitutions with a focus on separation of powers, the co-equal branches of government, the role of the judicial branch, and the importance to our democracy. She will also identify threats to judicial independence and what citizens of North Carolina can do to preserve and independent judiciary.
