No. He was raised as Korean. He was discriminated against in Korea, so he got Japanese citizenship and became a Japan member, but due to his unfair play, he was hated in Japan. Many Japanese cannot forget this play. He applied oil on his body. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-EgqjLbMDd2U.html&t He did the same violation as a judo fighter as well. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-4cQyS_ZJIpc.html
It was not just racist. In korea YongIn univ has great power in judo. Most of player and referee are Yongin univ. So they discriminate Non Yongin univ. Akiyama was victim of Yogin univ. Cartel.
He might be anti-Japan, but I don't know him personally so I can't state that, and neither can the Japanese people. Also "not a Samurai" well yes under the literal context, he's not a fighter from futile Japan. But any one who has trained to the level Akiyama has achieved in Judo has Bushido. Plus I think the Japanese people don't like him because of what happened with Kazushi Sakuraba.
Im Korean I can try to explain. Yoshihiro Akiyama or Chu-Sung-Hoon has both Korean and Japanese ethnicity. His mother was a swimmer and his father was a Judoka. Since the history between Korea and Japan isn't great they tend to have many rivalries in many aspects, and Judo happens to be one of the most competitive. I practiced as a Judoka for a while (no where near his level ofc) but it was a common saying "No matter what you can't lose to Japan". He faced discrimination in both Korea and Japan due to his mixed race. Which is why you see on his MMA matches in the UFC he is wearing both countries flags. I'm not sure how Japan treated him but back at the time, he was denied to represent Korea despite him wanting to. Things are much different now and he is a highly respected MMA and Judoka in both nations.
I don't think you understand the context of the sentence, I wan't saying he was against Japan and the Japanese. It was a point on his continuation of cheating, it's against the ways of traditional Japanese culture e.g. Bushido. I also wasn't the person stating that, the person I was talking to is Japanese and was claiming Akiyama wasn't Japanese and he's "anti-Japan." I was merely saying that I don't know him and his beliefs, anything is possible.
It's laughable you state "Cheating, it's against the ways of traditional Japanese culture" That's like you're protesting against animal cruelty while eating a burger and wearing a leather jacket. Go read your history how Japanese forcefully invaded surrounding countries and slaughtered millions of innocent people. Japan also bombed Pearl Harbor without warning. I highly recommend correcting your misunderstanding of "cheating and traditional Japanese culture." Regardless of one's race, culture, religion or tradition, ethics must be honored first and foremost.
Akiyama is like 4th generation Korean Japanese, just like Afro Americans, and Hispanics, and Anglo Euros who live here in the US. However, Japanese people are the most racist, and don't consider Akiyama a Japanese and hates him along with other races. It's just sad shit to see.
+Nice Guy That's why his Japanese wife loves him xD I think the country is split. There are those who honor the imperial Japan, like how there are neo Nazis and KKK in the U.S. and there are those who believes Japan should get along with Korea and Japan. It just sucks because most of the politicans that run the country are pro-imperialists. I've personally met shitty Japanese and I've met nice ones who didn't care about race.
Yes, that's true, you're right. Unfortunately, worthless people are all over no matter where you go. I think the world still operates only by those handful of good people, definitely not by majority..
+Nice Guy Arent't those Koreans who booed him? Because in 2001 he won a gold(?) medal for Korea then he changed nationality, and won another gold for Japan by beating Dongjin which is a Korean.
I have not seen that clip, however, I wouldn't doubt it since ignorant people are all around us. We even fight with our own family members... I wished we could just leave the race aside when dealing with each other. There are beautiful people in every race.
Nice Guy Japanese booed him too after he beat the nation's sweetheart, Sakuraba. But it was more because he was accused of cheating and the match was nullified. Yeah, fanaticism towards race and nationality is ridiculous. If it's a good fight, then it deserves to be praised. He has come a long way, though. He's a megastar now in Korea. Every show wants him.
@@davidpark5462 He was never the best in the world - or close to it. I think the poster was trying to simply say that Akiyama was better at MMA than he was at judo - which is correct. It's kind of opposite of how Yoon Dong-sik was better at judo than he was at MMA.
He is not Japanese, and he wears hand cream etc. on his dogi. He has no choice but to win. Then, when a complaint about a dogi came from the opponent country of the war, he changed his clothes and then lost in a row. He looks down on Japanese judo. There are many Japanese who hate him.
