Close the distance, achieve the clinch, take your opponent down. These techniques require a combination of accuracy, space and an anticipated attack. In reality you are either attacking, closing the distance or neutralizing the opponent. These choreographed moves are great for technical development, not to simulate real life situations. Someone pulls a knife, if you have a gun use it, otherwise get out. Same thing with handguns. Close, clinch, takedown, position, submission/neutralize attacker. Multiple attackers? Get out. If you have to deal with all these situations on fairly regular basis, you are either: military, law enforcement, security or just an asshole. If you frequent places where you find yourself in these situations, and it's not job related... You're probably hanging out with assholes. If you live in a shitty neighborhood, it's probably easier and safer to just move.

"Or just an asshole" lmao You are absolutely right tho, this would not be helpfull in a real fight, and you should run if he has a knife, gun, or other people

Wow-im so impressed by this! It's fantastic to see judo practicioners not only defending strikes but using them as well. This is much more realistic training in my opinion. How would I go about starting to train with your system? I have a martial arts background (Kung Fu), but I haven't practiced for a long time. Do you have any training centers in Leicester, please?

This is the dumbest comment section I've ever seen... "This isn't judo it's ju jitsu" Hey dummies, can you read? It's specifically says Judo and Ju Jitsu on the sign! It's a defense combination of the two. Too many haters want to find reasons to make it look bad & sound smart. Just shut up and enjoy.

That's very good. I was just trying to think of some techniques to help in a knife incident. I am having a nightmare. I am alone. And can't stop thinking about self defence. It's very exciting, so exciting. I am neglecting other areas of my life. Perhaps, I might go and have some self defence lessons? For the only purpose of personal survival. I can't think, I would ever be a very good self defence instructor. Or a professional fighter either. But, I am fascinated by how defence against stabbing might be possible. Actually, I studied. A type of Kung Fu where any punch could generally be blocked. Using the wrists. Perhaps it was a form of the Tai Chi, wrestling. I read about ONLINE? On Wikipedia yesterday? Jumping to the side. Out of the way, might not always be possible. In the time available. Perhaps it's true that, fighting is wasting valuable running away time! I might feel confident blocking a thrust, from the right arm. With my left wrist. Perhaps turning the block into a grab. Maybe grabbing the knife arm with two hands might be appropriate, (with a strong opponent) followed by a throw. Only in my mind. It's likely, I might be stronger than the opponent. Or possibly just heavier. But, that's not guaranteed. Or saying. 'You have got me!' To the lad standing by the sink. But, thinking to myself. 'I am going to kick you so hard if you stab me. Even if it's the last thing, I do!' The boy, has a knife pointed at my throat. 'No you have got the front kick! Who are you?' (He must have noticed I was shaping for a push kick!) 'I am your mum's pal, I did the washing up for you!' (Should have hid the 🔪 knifes!) 'That's my job he says!' And I thank my lucky stars. The situation was calmed down. That was an awkward situation. A misunderstanding. Because of the internet.

Very good video. I think a Judoka does not need extra self defense lessons as I find plain Judo extremely useful in self defense situations! Randori training works wonders!

Why is everyone comparing a "jitsu" to a "Do"? As far as the techniques are concerned they can be the very same or different. The difference or similarities is not the physical techniques. It's the ideology and principles charging the actions. If the technique shown is not within Judo's maxim or philosophy then it is not Judo. If there is no principle then it's not Judo.

xcv, your statement that Judo is just a game, or sport is wrong. While it's true that modern Judo seems to be focused on that, it was never the intention to be a winner takes all event. Judo is about character and, moral development, physical education and, self-defense. Still, the modern sport version will teach you to handle the intensity of an attack, the shock of combat with clarity and, calm. If you want to learn self-defense, the techniques shown here are valuable to combine with the Judo that's done in randori and, shiai. Learn to box, too, for it matches up well with Judo.
@BloodofPatriots
@BloodofPatriots 8 лет назад
+MrPotatoesLatkie After a year or so of randori, its amazing how "instinctive" throws become. Had people start fights with me and before I realized it, I was tossing them to the ground with malicious intent. Judo works. Its not magic. Its' physics. And randori is really the reason why Judo works so well in a violent confrontation.
@BloodofPatriots
@BloodofPatriots 8 лет назад
Here's a reality check: Any "move" that takes more than two steps to execute will most likely not work in a street fight. Keep it simple. This is your life and health at stake, so it isn't time for crazy "tournament" throws or other techniques.
@Sadoruro
@Sadoruro 8 лет назад
+BloodofPatriots That actually shows little knowledge about technical street fight. When you punch someone in the face (or throat) bareknucled while they are defenseless (because they were attacking), that buy you vastly enough time to perform your throw. Throws are quick to execute in the end. Combine the punch and the impact of the throw on concrete, and it buys you the second needed to apply the final lock. Those kind of techniques are used by cops and security guards all over the world. The key words are of course the atemi (punches and kick) needed to buy you time to do your techniques. Without them, you can't do it. But those atemi buy you the second needed to execute the techniques .
@BloodofPatriots
@BloodofPatriots 8 лет назад
Sadoruro A strike into a throw is two steps, idiot. You can't count? LOL
@Sadoruro
@Sadoruro 8 лет назад
+BloodofPatriots that's still not my point. The strike buy you enough time to do the throw. Vastly enough.
@BloodofPatriots
@BloodofPatriots 8 лет назад
Sadoruro Are you a fucking idiot? Strike is step 1. Throw is step 2. Basically, you just proved exactly what I stated above. You've got to be the dumbest piece of shit on the planet. LOL
@Sadoruro
@Sadoruro 8 лет назад
BloodofPatriots It's really no surprise to get insulted by people with low comprehension skills. I never said that it wasn't 2 steps. Your original point was that it can't work because it's composed of two steps. That's were I contradict, because anyone with enough knowledge about a fight knows that a strike buy you enough time to perform a throw safely after. And thus that "step 1 strike and step 2 throw" works perfectly well.

Common sense tells us at many points that it wouldnt work like that in real fight. This completely senseless kidney-punch at 3:25 for example...go directly into the choke or into the clinch to throw him down..but with this stupid punch the chance will be gone to do so. Basicly ALL judo self defense videos or curses i saw are so far from reality, no basic understanding of opponents movements. We need to learn how to use our strengths in self defense! How to get into clinch without being knocked out, how to throw and submit best in street fight without rules or gi...this is the stuff which helps judoka in self defense, but NOONE does it, only senseless strikes, which open up your defense and make any amateur boxer knock you out.

I don't think any of that would work so well. Too much movement to counter a simple straight punch. The guy would never just stand there with his hand out. He would throw that punch with intention of following it with something else.

In judo you are taught to lead with your right foot and hand .....that's actually totally wrong as at long distance boxing fundamentals actually override this ...left leg lead and left jab out ...meaning you need to learn how to throw crack handed or left foot out and left hand !?,
