I've replaced the mono film soundtrack with true stereo from the original stereo recording. Enjoy Judy, Ray Bolger, and Marjorie Main as they dance...the Waltz!
The Producer's Notes from the CD: It is with great pleasure that we premiere the original soundtrack album to one of the best MGM Musicals of all time, The Harvey Girls, featuring the timeless songs of Harry Warren and Johnny Mercer, perfectly rendered by the extraordinary Judy Garland and a stellar supporting cast. The music for The Harvey Girls was recorded with several microphones placed strategically throughout the scoring stage, each creating discrete recordings called "angles" that captured the vocals and different sections of the orchestra. Each angle was then edited, using portions of many different 'takes' of each song or score piece. Finally, the edited vocal orchestral angles were mixed to monaural composite tracks ('comps') in preparation for final use in the film.
While very few angles for The Harvey Girls were available, most of the orchestral and vocal comps did survive the aging process and were used to master most selections on this album. Individual angles were available for the Oscar-winning 'On The Atchison, Topeka, And The Santa Fe,' the joyous 'Swing Your Partner Round And Round,' and the wonderful outtake 'March Of The Doagies,' enabling us to mix these selections in true stereo.
Neither comps nor angles were available for a portion of 'Training Montage (The Train Must Be Fed)' or 'Wait And See' reprise #2, so it was necessary to replace missing sections with the music and effects track of the fine-grain print master. Due to the natural aging process of all production elements, the listener will note occasional variations in fidelity. Selections are presented in their original order and by name as they appear in the conductor's score.

The legendary, adorable, very pretty and extremely talented singer, actress, comedian, dancer, entertainer, performer and person Judy Garland is in a class by herself! Thank you for posting and sharing this classic performance! This classic movie was filmed in 1945 and 1946! Then released in 1946!

I must say at about around four minutes. The ribbon in that one persons view is so hysterical. She’s dancing so eloquently and we have no idea what she looks like.

Surprised that nobody has seen or commented on this clip. Judy dances wonderfully here with Ray Bolger - a great testament to the fact that she was not only a brilliant singer but a fantastic dancer too!

Agree wholeheartedly. Around 3:46, it looked like they were going for a spotlight couple- and when everyone else cleared the floor, it looked like Judy and Ray were gonna be it, but they end the duet so abruptly when she substitutes Marjorie Main for herself.

Judy Garland looks really beautiful in this movie...more than Meet Me in St. Louis. She is one of the greatest movie stars in history and she had a brilliant memory so thats why almost every of her scenes was taken in just one shot. 1946 back when Metro Goldwyn Mayer was the space with shining stars around

I don't know about that,to me it looks as if things are a bit cool between them. They don't really look at each other and that could be because Judy started to experience more serious mental health problems while she was making this film and she began to show up very late, delaying the days shooting, her behaviour began to be more disruptive and things being as theyw eere then, few people would have understood Bipolar Disorder or felt any kind of empathy.Thsi behaaviour would have been seen as unprofessional or Diva-like at least. Like other well known dancers,i think that Ray Bolger was a perfectionist and expected better.I'm sure that as times passed ,her colleagues began to understand more. Judy was hospitalized a couple of times in the late Forties.

Omigosh I am so envious and I am so glad that there is work being done to maintain and preserve classic Hollywood film costumes since there were so many costumes that were left to rot and be forgotten about or just thrown out during the later years of MGM and then during the big MGM auction of 1972 I believe was the year. I would love to see it someday!

What happened to women? I remember that when I was a kid in the early sixties women looked this beautiful in our neighborhood. They took care of themselves, their husbands had them on pedestals and their wishes were their commands. So sweet, glamorous and raised a family with their husbands in a happy home. My mom would always dress up and be ready for my dad, he would come home and they would embrace and kiss just like in the movies. Today, we are living in a horror movie where the world is falling apart.
