Believed to be the first recording of Judy singing 'When You're Smiling', an excerpt from 'The Bing Crosby Show', CBS radio.
'Smiling' became a signature part of Judy's repertoire, performed most notably at Carnegie Hall. The musical arrangement here is different ... with some familiarity ... compared to her later, more recognized, version.
The video includes rare clips of some of Hollywood's finest talents. Robert Wagner, Thelma Ritter, Rory Calhoun, David Wayne, Susan Hayward, John Lund ... &, of course, our incomparable Judy.
These are just some of the artists who performed various dramas for The Lux Radio Theatre, a unique - & sadly 'lost' - form of creativity. But here they are, doing what they did best, smiling with Judy's song.

A woman showing up for work. Driving her car. In Hollywood. For a radio broadcast. We don't always think, Judy was a person, living her life, reporting to work, just like we all did. It's just that her "work" touched the world. Love you, forever, JUDY💘💘💘💘🙏🙏👏👏

Judy looked GOOD getting out that car. Nice and healthy and her skin was so beautiful. Don’t get me started on John Lund. That was one fiiine looking man 🥰

I never really knew she sang this song before the "concert years". What a rare recording to hear by her - thanks so much for sharing it. She always did a great job with this song.

Nice video and especially to see the stars of With a Song in My Heart with the great Susan Hayward - such a stunning beauty and my favourite of all time.

Love me the Susan. At first I thought it was Ida Lupino, but I watched it again and saw it was the beautiful Susan. She's my favorite too Trish.

After 30+ years of "following" Judy, I never knew she sang this tune so many years before her concert versions! Thanks for posting.

Judy was touchy about being filmed or having her picture taken when she wasn’t “on”. You can tell she wasn’t all that pleased, but put on a game face as best she could. Loved seeing her like this.

Thanks for posting video. Great! Judy and other real Stars we don't have anymore. We lack talent and actors are paid to entertain us and make too much these days. I used to act and a model so I know this horrific business but the talent of today is not really there. Only a few have it and some have recently died from the money and drugs with talent. Whitney had it, MJ had it, Carpenter's, Babs and others but only a few since old days. Burt Bacharach is my fav composer of modern times.

There's tremendous talent around. It's just that that music isn't popular anymore, it's only a niche, not mass market.

Who is the man at 0:47? Wow, Thelma Ritter and Robert Wagner! Never expected to see them together. Yes, Judy did drive. It was during the MGM years that she had a chauffeur to and from work.

This video footage? No, it's during the 1950s when Judy was making A Star Is Born at Warner Bros. Studios.

I wish I had been around in the days of the real Stars but I can at least enjoy their music and talent and pray they RIP because, many of them had it so hard we cannot imagine. Judy died broke and look what all she did in life with movies and stage. Karen Carpenter had a voice like none other and she died. MJ had talent like him or not and Whitney had it once big time. We still have Barbara and a few others left with the real thing but NONE under 30 with it. Brad Pitt is the male Monroe.

Michelle moi belle , what are you trying to show me ? Judy and John ? Judy and John ! Judy and JFK ? Why Oz and Judy and JFK . I am so close , it's like I can't see something for something else blocks it... Who is the guy at the end please.

An odd video. You're featuring Judy Garland but seemingly unaware that the first section is with the cast Of "With a Song in My Heart" which has nothing to do with Judy Garland. Susan Hayward did perform on Lux Radio recordings but "With A Song In My Heart' was not one of them.

Doesn't sound right -- her vibrato is tremulous like a goaty vibrato...but it improves towards the end (which is great in this nifty arrangement!).
