If you can’t find a vintage Singer 14U33 serger but you want a good one, here it is. I like it because it’s well made and easy to service. This one is easier than most to thread, but it still has do be exactly right. All sergers are hard to thread. Any missed guide or looping of the thread incorrectly will cause a malfunction.
If a salesperson tells you their serger is “self-threading”, ask them to place the spools of thread close to the serger so it can reach them. Ask the serger to thread itself. Then go in the other room and have some coffee and give the serger ample time to complete the task.
After about ten minutes, return to the serger and see how well it did at self-threading.
